Why can't a review just be legitimately someone disliking the game? The first time I played Armageddon I died to kryl while sleeping at a logging spot because I didn't know better. Newbies never have 'good' experiences on a game like Armageddon which is meant to be harsh and unforgiving. It takes a few throwaways and some motivation to keep trying to get a 'good run' it's like a roguelike in that regard.

It's an easy trope to fall into. You're a gladiator. You're a celebrity. You're not a celebrity due to your wits! You gotta act all macho because that's literally what the role requires. I bet WWE wrestlers act the same way as well. Even if half them have minuscule ball sacks due to all the steroids and they've long lost interest in opposite sex. Sex is part of life. There is a gazillion of vocations IRL that require women 'and' men to appear just a hair short of sexually enticing to keep clients attention piqued. Especially in entertainment/service/sales industry. Dont take it too seriously, would be my advice. I'm not sure the advice of "don't take it seriously" is really applicable to "these two dimensional characters only wanted sex and it was sad / boring to RP around" it would seem the player already didn't take it seriously because it was a stereotypical bad joke to them. |

Reconciling is not futile because of the personalities. It's futile because the majority of the active posters don't even play anymore, haven't played in years and wouldn't play again. There is nothing to reconcile these are people with lives doing their own thing coming to talk about something they used to do because it kills the time and Armageddon is often so wrong it's like watching a drunk try and make it into a cab. I like the hobby, I like RPIs, they are dead or dying and Armageddon is just a good example of why. HavenRPG likewise has insane staff. SOI insane staff that torpedoed the flagship RPI. It's not like Armageddon is unique. It's just really good and continuing on in comparison.
That's also why there aren't as many guides as their used to be, the people who could write them haven't played in so long we have no ability to make an accurate or helpful one.

Names, times and descriptions of complaint activity are more or less required for a positive resolution if you're ever going to get one. Also, anonymity on the game or web server is kind of an illusion because people with the backend access can just check anyway. You are also right that off-site anonymous and named complaints already exist as an option.

Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I think asking for credit card information is suitable for 'age verification'
I say this as someone who assumes kids under 16 don't have credit or debit cards these days, I could be wrong
I would never play a MU that requested scans of my physical ID, facebook/google are bad enough I don't need to add whoever runs Armageddon to the list of people who know way to much about me.

I really don't have a problem with andro, you can attribute it to SJW stuff or the fact some chicks are mannish and some dudes are feminine and an andro option is also good for people that maybe want to do disguises to pass as one or another. When I was failing to produce Project Redshift we intended to have an andro option just because it cost us nothing to provide it.

So to ask the obvious question...
Staff have modified the minimum age.
Are players and staff complaining about being forced to do so?
Does the implicit issue of the 13 year old minimum age not warrant the update by itself?
If the change has been decided and you have successfully nipped problematic labeling/association in the bud why continue to attack the source or complain of sources?
Continuing to draw attention to the situation while supposedly making decisions to resolve the situation just keeps the original problem on the mind and doesn't allow you to move away from it. Would you continue to do this weird post resolution complaining on a mainstream forum and not trolling the shadowboard?

In the free speech angle. You are entitled to your speech but not the social response to follow. Armageddon could 100% be like it is the setting, we do not believe it's happening, end of story. This would cause a skeptical or condemning response but no one is pointing a gun to Armageddon's head. The only influence being applied is the label and ostracizing of the game for not conforming. Whether it's because a pedophilia scene exists or because the game will not change for creative integrity. The fact that the game has changed per the staff announcement is to distance itself from the label and ostracizing dialogue... Presumably maybe Godaddy got involved, iunno.
In the event of I am playing a 14 year old going about my day sometimes I suck dick to make sid sometimes I shiv a fool to steal his boots... But this one guy/girl is being extra pervy. I would probably just have your character be like bish I don't like you, you probably want to slit my throat after getting your rocks off or something to that equalivant. If that isn't your cup of tea report it to staff. Any game which allows underage characters should probably just accept a portion of staff time will end up being dedicated to policing complaints about and regarding those characters and people being creepy.
It all boils down to how does the staff want to spend their time. Nix it or administrate it.

I do want to briefly point out that bringing change to Armageddon is not some war. Some of the very thinly veiled narrative tactics are pretty unnecessary in this thread. Especially when staff have already made the decision and now you're going to whine that they were forced into it? Armageddon is not singled out when it comes to young PCs and it is not the only MUD to get this heat. To imagine that it is and that it is in fact the shadowboards that is the big evil enemy that would dare bring up pedophilia is ignoring the fact that our hobby does still bring new people in, it's rare but it happens, and that the average person is going to be like uh what? when they hear about 13 year old adults on a game where we all know mudsex is an everyday occurence. The Text-based Gaming community as a whole MUDs or MUSHes do not accept the whiff of underage erotica especially on any game that makes any claim to serious/quality roleplaying. The shadowboard is not unique, Armageddon is not unique, you are not being persecuted you are being conformed to cultural norms. |

These boards were most active when Armageddon playerbase was larger. That would be a pretty good indication that the activity of the board is linked to the activity of the game meaning playing users. The fact some of us old quitters still post is probably different from person to person.

Since that one thread where whoever went off about pedo stuff etc etc a few years ago. My stance is always thus. If you believe there is an issue, report it to either the authorities or the groups organized to tamp down on internet pedophilia. If you want to throw in a post shouting from the mountain tops you believe something is wrong too than bully for you, but the first act should always be reporting.
