Just curious...but why?
And not a snarky, aggressive why, but a legit, want to understand why?
I've always been sort of like "huh" when I come across one. I've even sort of prejudiced the players of as sorta "strange".
However, one of my favourite pcs that I currently play with has an Androgynous description, and they're like...the best, so, maybe there's more to it than wanting to crossdress?

The androgynous helpfile basically explains that it's for characters that would be best described with nonbinary pronouns.
I can't directly judge how responsibly players have treated this option since I left the game before its implementation. However, I'm told by other observers that the majority of players treat the nonbinary gender fairly responsibly, some are apparently picking it to be less describable and their biological sex isn't a part of their play at all, while a small minority of players are basically picking androgynous to fill a kink.

I have done it for a large number of mutants. I like that it gives you 'IT' as a pronoun instead of he or she and when my mutants are so borderline that they don't even come across as human, having a non-gender like that really helps with the mood you're trying to create. It's not a sexual thing at all. It's a roleplay prop.

Didn't they make "it" "they" now?
For strange mutants, "it" is so much better.

I really don't have a problem with andro, you can attribute it to SJW stuff or the fact some chicks are mannish and some dudes are feminine and an andro option is also good for people that maybe want to do disguises to pass as one or another. When I was failing to produce Project Redshift we intended to have an andro option just because it cost us nothing to provide it.
