In your experience what was it like for someone to leave staff and come back?
I ask because part of the NO PC policy normally has an exception like, go on hiatus for a joy ride on PCs and come back to staffing. Is there any reason this hiatus approach could not work within Armageddon's system, there are staff rotations which could be used to onboard and offload staffers right?

To clarify my post is stating that the idea that staff shouldn't play PCs but be restricted to NPCs is not exclusive to Armageddon and its staff. This means someone who wanted to argue that staff should be able to do whatever and that it's just players being blah blah blah unreasonable blah blah blah goblin bile needs to remember plenty of other games have discussed this policy too.

Before someone cries about Armageddon staff being singled out.
Many many people in both MUSHes and MUDs have formed the opinion that staff can play NPCs if they want to play a character because of past abuses (across games) or to prevent abuses from occuring in the first place.
When I was trying to get Project Redshift off the ground staff couldn't play PCs. It was in the original doc.

Okay so ShaLeah if you are out there in the ether. Are you part of the problem? Does it take two to tango? Have you ever been uncharitable or abrasive in your interactions with staff? Have you perhaps broken or bent a rule at some time? Have you made a mistake? For what it's worth I have done... 1 - Walking from Nak to the Arabeti camp on my way to Luirs within 1 hr of creating an elf because I wanted to play in the post but wanted a southie accent to start. (spam walked like I pre-entered all the commands) 2 - I have spam crafted to run to the merchants after reboot for $$$ money. 3 - I have apartment murdered, shut the door bebe the knife will take you away. 4 - I have gotten crotchey with the staff either because I was in a mood or inferred tone into their written response. 5 - I've discussed IC things OOCly! 6 - I've coordinated playtimes OOCly! But not for murder. 7 - I don't think I've twinked but I'm sure by the staff standard I have twinked which is hunting regularly and without needing skins or bone or meat just for ze fighting.

Can you give an example of someone who is playing currently who has not taken responsibility for their own shit? Obviously those of us who quit it doesn't matter whether we are accountable for our behaviour years ago or not. Though I suspect a lot of us have admitted to varying levels of culpability.
EDIT - I ask for an example because if you have not read the entire board (as a new user who would expect you too) you may find them posting here admitting they overreacted or they were in the wrong about something.

If there appears to be a recurring issue of a 'Great Satan' than that is likely a culture or policy issue and not specifically an individual issue. Like back when Nyr was a dick it was theorized he was the staff 'no man' the guy who was always tapped to decline player requests or administer discipline for rule violations. This theory was based on the fact he came off like a huge asshole but a lot of other staffers seemed alright. So people went oh he's supposed to be the bad guy so all the other staffers can be cuddly. That didn't appear to be the case in the end.
Now I know you may be tempted to say ah but all staff come from players so it is indeed players who are the worst and the staff are a reflection of their playerbase. To you I say look at HavenRPG who has toxic staff AND a toxic playerbase because of it and it's been the same 2 people on staff for years. Culture informs behaviour.

I understand the we're all guilty of our own negatives thing you're trying to lay down.
I don't think you'll see people picking it up because players have called out other players for their behaviour and now you see staffers are willing to accept some responsibility for their behaviour too. You appear to want to go well that's enough of that accountability or dialogue nonsense. Staff are players (something Qwerty has been pushing) so if Staff is bad it's players who are bad first so lets all go back to ignoring the problem!

So your theory is that Nergal and Cayuga doing this means nothing. That Anaiah doing it years ago means nothing, because the players will always find someone to demonize. Kay...
But if all the staff just self reflected and had a human moment to go like hey I HAVE MADE MISTAKES. I'm sorry for those mistakes. I see now that there were some things that led to those mistakes and I am going to be mindful of them. The players (who are human beings as CLEARLY shown when Nergal posted and no one took a shit on him but Qwerty) will be like. We appreciate that. Will someone, somewhere, have a bone to pick all the time. Sure but we're talking about general views.
What Nergal, Cayuga, Anaiah have done should not be viewed as "where does it end" but as "oh well I guess that might work afterall"

I don't think many if anyone claims the players are universally good. People need to be told off and some need to be banned. There is however the expectation that staff hold themselves to a higher standard especially when they go through so much rigamoroll to present themselves as impartial/professional with red tape and unenforceable NDAs, etc etc.
Also in this example the players don't lose for their behaviour they move on to other games. The staff presumably lose when the game shrinks, content vanishes, playstyles backslide. Out of pairing one side is more committed to the current situation than the other.

I appreciate your comments about the TMC situation.
You often discuss a feeling of not enough manpower/being to thin at staff for different activities. Can you elaborate on what you mean by that? Many other games are able to service very large player populations with less staff than Armageddon has traditionally had. Is there something about RPIs that make it more time consuming? Something about how stuff was handled on the back end?

All Armageddon decisions and concerns aside. Whoever was calling you and sending you adult diapers is a fucking lunatic.
Do you still play MUDs and if so are they RP centric or more gamey casual? If not what did you end up switching too as your hobby?

I'm not sure how plot secrets are related to coded secrets, might want to find the proper thread for that.

And yet MUSHes have their entire system published because a lot of them don't have automation and many people would claim they are more roleplay centric than MUDs, even RPIs >_>

Given Arx has grown primarily on a mix of disaffected WoD MUSH players and disaffected RPI players I think bringing it up in discussion is pretty fair. It's just a fact that the RPI pool is Harshlands and Armageddon and then if you want something kind of in the same ballpark but not an RPI you can do HavenRPG. After that you're into MUs like Sindome, Arx, Ithir, Cybersphere, an Ares MUSH game. These have enough coded bits that they can help ease or placate someone coming off of that RPI high.
