Lets ask some Qwerty themed questions in a non-asshole manner. Nergal if you please...
1. Do you believe the staff act maliciously or is it something else? 2. Do you believe that any single individual on staff is specifically responsible for the different eras of ups or downs (positive or negative)? 3. Do you think that the statement "necessary or useful" is akin to previous dismissive statements you have made as a staffer? 4. If you could say anything to staff publicly while this is a hot topic and people are looking, what would it be? 5. If there is any player(s) you specifically want to apologize for that you have not been contacted in PMs who would they be? 6. In your opinion does 'to many' hours logged in as a player or staffer cause a problem on any game not just Armageddon? If yes is there some threshold of hours you personally feel like you saw a distinct shift in personality or behaviour in yourself?

PPS - If the staff refuse to post here under their names just take his 1st post. Copy paste it. Create a thread called staff thoughts on a recent former staffers statements. Boom then the GDB can circlejerk to their hearts content and then Nergal can't defend himself!

I want to say this very simply.
Anyone can do this. A player can do this, a staffer can do this. Retired staff, active staff. The only barrier between Nergal and Adhira or Nessalin is that he can take no action beyond apologizing and answering our questions. An active staff like Adhira/Nessalin can go further and make an official policy update. Even if it's to say we are aware of a culture problem amongst staff and are looking to address it. We encourage feedback via request too based on things people find disheartening or abrasive during request tool interactions. Then you take it all and go okay people don't like one word or short sentence replies, it makes them feel irrelevant or ignored. Check. All request tool response will now be 3 sentences! People don't like when staff hint they might have misread something in their request. All request tool responses will now be 3 sentences, 1 of which is reflecting a summary of what they believed the player reported.
Am I saying that is what should happen? No. Admit some mistakes, admit some changes, deliver on the changes (doesn't have to be right away), be willing to endure some skepticism.
EDIT - PS Qwerty is the height of hypocrisy. No one will challenge you (except him) and he won't do it in an intellectually honest manner because he wants a gotcha so regardless of the truth he can get his quote / soundbite to parade around.

I think what Abuzer is really asking is can Nergal explain to us how account notes work. How are they added, are they discussed, are they well documented, what doesn't get shown to players, what does?
EDIT - Also how often are they looked at by staff? Do storytellers look at them a lot do producers are they just post-it notes?

The point of an example tends to be clarification. All you've done is point at someone (Shaleah) and gone she is a piece of shit player who doesn't take responsibility. Meanwhile she has responded with she's owned every mistake since she's a newb. So where is the line between not taking responsibility and acknowledging a mistake. You appear to be less forgiving than this board which basically went oh Nergal admits he made some mistakes, cool. Thanks Nergal we all really appreciate that. Shaleah says she's made some mistakes and you're still saying she's a baddie.
Once you've made a mistake can you never criticize someone else? Is this just a line of logic that is supposed to lead to no one criticizing anyone, ever and just looking inward to themselves to better the world? Is this... BE THE CHANGE?

terminal are you going to address ShaLeah and the fact she responded and is apparently willing to own her own misdeeds. What more do you want? Why is Shaleah a 'piece of shit player who doesn't take responsibility'? What does Shaleah and Shakes have to do to have your blessing for not being THE PROBLEM?

My2Sid = IsFriday
He confirmed that Nergal is Nergal. Although if you really wanted to test it you could have just asked him to make a post from the reddit account associated with Nergal in the past? Or the one on TMC?
EDIT - Basically there were more definitive ways to test your suspicion.

IsFriday isn't enough of a confirmation. Do you want the man's phone number and address too? Maybe a picture of his face, some DNA?

Armageddon is Crackageddon because real time responsive RP with life or death (for the character) consequence is fulfilling. It's the same reason people love Second Life, MMOs, tabletop RPGs, classic video games. There is a level of engagement, creativity, immediate fulfillment of consequences that provide satisfaction. There's no questioning that RPIs are a potent set of RP, mechanics, and consequence.

RathustraToday at 12:02 PM I mean, I'm not going to mince words: Why would I be accountable to players? You can't trust anyone with this attitude to not abuse their staff level in favor of their PC. What is the context of that? Like surely there was something to prompt a response.

I think the presumption that the community cannot forgive and forget is part of some obvious bias you have Qwerty.
Nergal didn't have to have a criticism of staff to get the reception he did. He just had to say hey I did some wrong stuff, I was in a situation that led to those decisions. I regret those decisions. He could even had said PS - Some of you are super assholes. It's not criticism that did it, it's just some hey I made a mistake I can admit that.

In your experience what was it like for someone to leave staff and come back?
I ask because part of the NO PC policy normally has an exception like, go on hiatus for a joy ride on PCs and come back to staffing. Is there any reason this hiatus approach could not work within Armageddon's system, there are staff rotations which could be used to onboard and offload staffers right?

To clarify my post is stating that the idea that staff shouldn't play PCs but be restricted to NPCs is not exclusive to Armageddon and its staff. This means someone who wanted to argue that staff should be able to do whatever and that it's just players being blah blah blah unreasonable blah blah blah goblin bile needs to remember plenty of other games have discussed this policy too.

Before someone cries about Armageddon staff being singled out.
Many many people in both MUSHes and MUDs have formed the opinion that staff can play NPCs if they want to play a character because of past abuses (across games) or to prevent abuses from occuring in the first place.
When I was trying to get Project Redshift off the ground staff couldn't play PCs. It was in the original doc.

Okay so ShaLeah if you are out there in the ether. Are you part of the problem? Does it take two to tango? Have you ever been uncharitable or abrasive in your interactions with staff? Have you perhaps broken or bent a rule at some time? Have you made a mistake? For what it's worth I have done... 1 - Walking from Nak to the Arabeti camp on my way to Luirs within 1 hr of creating an elf because I wanted to play in the post but wanted a southie accent to start. (spam walked like I pre-entered all the commands) 2 - I have spam crafted to run to the merchants after reboot for $$$ money. 3 - I have apartment murdered, shut the door bebe the knife will take you away. 4 - I have gotten crotchey with the staff either because I was in a mood or inferred tone into their written response. 5 - I've discussed IC things OOCly! 6 - I've coordinated playtimes OOCly! But not for murder. 7 - I don't think I've twinked but I'm sure by the staff standard I have twinked which is hunting regularly and without needing skins or bone or meat just for ze fighting.
