Should roleplay be incentivized?
Yes. Even if the only reward to roleplaying is that you CAN roleplay. Providing a setting and immersive gameplay experience for roleplayers is an incentive. You'd rather roleplay on Armageddon than on an IRE MUD. That is the most basic level of reward. We are here for you to roleplay on. I think all roleplay games meet this basic level of incentive.
To expand on it though at the end of the day RP purists are not the most common form of player. Instead of arguing whether emoting when someone walks into a room with you (in the desert) or immediately coded acting is good or bad roleplay. Why not just create an incentive for roleplay over immediate coded action? You could kind of cheese it and add in an emote combat system like Burning Post II has where the pace of combat is slowed down and you can enact quick 1-2 line emotes that apply coded combat affects like aiming for the torso, disarm, defend, blah blah blah.

I wonder why we never had any threads dedicated to creating pitches from the shadowboard for metaplots that we'd all chip in on until one seemed to gain momentum, we wrote it out, and posted it up to be compared against the next metaplot that occurs on ARM?

So Armageddon's incentive to roleplay (besides enjoyment) is karma for more unique roles and animations by Storytellers? I can see that.

RPE = Roleplay Encourage or Enforced
It's basically the precursor to RPI which is Roleplay Intensive. There differences range from huge to very mild. Essentially it's a game which is not "optimized for immersion" retaining things like OOC channels and not obscuring stat values with descriptor words and stuff. You still have to roleplay while on them though.

Question: Does Armageddon incentivize or reward roleplay?
Elaboration: MUSHes and many RPEs have some form of reward for roleplay whether it be Roleplay XP, normal XP, character points, skill gains, etc etc.
Question: Does Armageddons lack of tangible reward for roleplay increase the amount of meta-decisions made?

You do realize that this is the argument we made last time. That even if someone rape role plays the daylights out of a character. If the player has no reason to suspect that the other player is underage that they are not liable for any child sex laws. All it takes is a simple, you must be 18 to play this game checkbox and everyone is covered legally. That's how porn sights and m rated game websites do it.

I am 15 in this example.
I login to ARM
I verify I am 18+
I play the game
I am asked ooc consent and 18+?
I verify consent and 18+
How do you handle it, like give me the play by play.

But I didn't say to call a help hotline. I said to report the crime you keep saying is happening. The old put up or shut up argument. Like you could even lie and say you reported it and I'd say okay proceed with your slanted statements about how arm enables pedos.

In the Armageddon promotes pedos thread didn't I provide you with the contact information for the national child abuse hotline and point out that if you truly believe what you're saying (Kronibas) that you should report it. Like the old...
I don't condone shooting people in the head. I believe people are being shot in the head. I would never report people being shot in the head though. Then you are failing your own moral imperative to not condone the shooting of people in the dead.
To use >_> you know a less pedo-y example of the situation. As always, report all suspected or actual cases of child abuse to the proper authorities so they can judge things for themselves and help the afflicted children. Discussing it on a board, if you really believe it could be going on is about on par with admitting you're bullshitting or rabblerousing.

Optional Realities will always have a userbase as an unmoderated board (like this one) that allows people to post about their games without risking the judgement of staff. Project Redshift might have lost its base though, as a product/game it has a limited amount of good faith people will give it while waiting for it. See Laketown RPI and LabMUD for other examples of games that have been in development so long they have likely hurt themselves. Add Project Redshift to the list.

Emerging from hiatus to post...
I know of 2 groups that managed to get warehouses and 1 that was near it, none of the 3 were not linked to staff. No one I know has managed to get a hawker or a shop though.
1 - Sleazy male tuluki at the close of tuluk Draz? I forget the name.
This was played by a player who got force stored by Nyr on another character. They were basically running the Warrens prior to the Tuluki close and was one of the people who got completely blindsided by the situation while building up to have a merchant house with a human front and everything. They got a warehouse in Allanak after the move and had the legitimate income and money to begin the merchant house process.
2 - Aon and the White Carru Trading Company
This was formed by a tribal female and I can't for the life of me remember her name (but then again this was years ago). Aon inherited control of it and as a tuluki citizen was one of the first person in the north to use a warehouse when they came out. They never had a storefront but they did get staff support a couple of times for unique orders like 2 story tall marble or alabaster being harvested from the cliffs.
3 - Rinthi con artist girl
This chica was in the process of getting funding for a warehouse and was a rinthi who managed to move up the social ladder in Allanak. She was aiming to make her own merchant house but got cut short by being involved with the wrong people and somewhat murder happy templars. To my knowledge she was on track to get a warehouse as soon as the funds from her backers were deposited.
In general a culture of limitation is a good term for what is happening to Armageddon. Another way to look at it is simply lack of faith. Either in the playerbase to tell meaningful stories or be trusted to color inside the lines of the lore and documentation. Possibly even a lack of faith in the staff themselves to do something inventive or untested and be able to keep hold of it without ruining the formula. I think Armageddon, more than any other game, protects the formula. During my tenure playing there it was very obvious that with SOI closed and building up to Laketown RPI that Armageddon had assumed the largest share of the potential RPI players. And they didn't want to change anything if they could help it. Keep the formula going, minimal changes, success through consistency.
