As I promised earlier, here's the follow up to what I briefly mentioned earlier.
I don't expect most of you to put much stock in this post, tough here goes:
Suffice it to say that yes, ArmageddonMUD is indeed in a slump. New players are arriving daily, though the old guard of proven players have long moved on to greener pastures, likely on account of the asshattery and bullshit tactics previously mentioned.
Where are the EvilRoeSlades? The Dakkon Blacks? The LoDs (he became a builder for Arm 2.0, though I don't know where he is currently)?
Where are the Shalooonshs? The Onimantus? The Nechomachuses? (Yes, he's still around, though he's merely in an administrative position at this point).
Why have they all left?
The truth is, there comes a point in time where people wake up and realize that after spending countless hours, months, even years of the lives investing their hearts and souls into a text-based game, they have absolutely nothing to show for it. Nothing.
Simply put, these people got tired of the office politics (yes, there are politics amongst Armageddon staff) and decided to get the hell out.
How do I know this?
Let's just say I'm in a position to know, mm?
Nyr, in all of his cockgobbling glory, finally came to the realization that there are no more Manonfires or Forest Junkies because they had been ostracized and labeled unworthy to grace the came with their inventive minds.
Since then Manonfire has been allowed to return, though I do believe Forest Junkie has stated his intent to never return to that fucking vortex of artistic compromise (I may be paraphrasing here).
Players such as them grew up and moved on. The period before Plainsman was most certainly a romantic period for ArmageddonMUD. What the game is stuck in now is some sort of never-ending cycle of constant revamping/reallocating when truth be told, the game was near perfect to begin with.
The powers that be at Arm have been fucking with a Mona Lisa, and what players are now being presented with is a Picasso. Perhaps some would beg to differ that a Picasso is truly a work of art, though I personally would opt to call it what it is: a disjointed pile of shit.

I used to talk to FJ on aim ALL the time back in the day. Eventually we stopped talking and I guess I could look thru my old aim logs but I'm not sure if he ever talked to the staff about me, I trusted him anyway so. meh.

I looked thru my logs and I think we had a falling out over my posting on the Darksun forums at wizards of the coast website. I asked the Darksun community about Armageddon MUD and this was my final permanent ban from Sanvean because she said it was malicious and I was trying to get the mud shut down. Not true though. I had good intentions because I didn't want to see the mud grow too big and then get noticed by wizards. They came to the Darksun forums and all started posting hate messages about me which were all shut down by the Darksun community and it was pretty funny. I wonder if I can find the thread somewhere.

OKay so my original post on that thread was kind of persnickety. I was pretty disgruntled at the time though, there is no way Arm makes money off their merchandise. Either way just read the torrent of bullshit that comes from the Arm staff/players on there and the responses they get from the Darksun community.

Wait so when did the ban hit? In 2003 when you posted the thread or 2006 when it got rezzed? Edit: ahahaha, sanvean's posts. Better resolve these legal issues through a bulletin board that nobody from Wizards of the Coast probably reads rather than actually communicating with the company. I came to this site looking for a Dark Sun beastiary so that I could start coming up with alternative fauna for the new Armageddon (animals that are -not- Dark Sun intellectual property), and was just amazed at Delerak's pettiness, and the hostility of this forum towards a -damn- good game. yes here I am just browsing this Dark Sun website for my Dark Sun MUD because I want to create new original animals not use even more of the source material nope no sir.

Yeah man. The ban hammer was in 2006 man when it was resurrected. It went 3 years and I had actually quit the mud when I created that thread because of all the bullshit I was seeing from Bhag and Halaster at the time. In 2006 I was trying to come back into it and that's when Sanvean perm banned me.
I guess it didn't work though cause I've played off and on but more off than anything. The game just doesn't do anything for me anymore. It lost it's magic a long time ago.

Just had my character kicked out of a clan by an animated NPC because I argued in the clan forums with the clan imm.
I should be angry, but somehow it feels like victory.

It cracks me up picturing a woman around the same age as my mother posting on a Wizards of the Coast bulletin board defending how her text-based roleplaying escapist fantasy game is different from another one in a thread 3 years old. I would hope someone that age would have the perspective to see how silly and trivial the entire thing is but nope, this desert game about magick elves is no laughing matter at all and must be taken serious.

To be fair, it's easy to say 'haha, getting mad about internet games' and such as a player.
I've actually been admin / builder on a couple MUDs and even a decently successful graphical MMO. When you put a lot of time into creating something (for pay or for pleasure) and people start throwing rocks at it, it cuts a little bit.
She should definitely have been thicker skinned but I understand the sentiment of wanting to protect something you helped create, even if it's just from ill-perceived trolling.

The same group of people that some of you (insert: admire, hate, detest, loath, love, can't tolerant, really appreciate) are the same ones that some of us others really think (insert: ruined the game with cliquishness, spread of IC information, created some of the best plots, really made the game fun, etc).
I find it funny when people are remiss about the absence of some player that I recall from my perspective being a troll of IC information in IRC, very clique-ish (to the point of there was no reason to try to interact with their characters online unless you knew them on AIM), or just plain droll.
Where on the other hand, players I remember with fondness, alot of which are still around, are talked down upon as being boring, loathsome, terribly unimaginative RPers, etc.
I think at the end of the day, and Ive said this before, people will play for their own reasons. There will be drama in any situation where people are encouraged to interact with each other, because we are not all alike.
