Armor doesn't make your skin hard it makes your ass dusty a f and boosts defense. IE: Makes you parry/glance/dodge better. What Grumble said "Armor buffs defense, which affects how well you USE what armor you have, as well as how dodgey you are. I'm assuming this not only affects absorbtion, but also your opponent's crit rate."
So armor isn't really armor. It's dumb.
Stone skin is more armor.

My current understanding, and forgive me, I've only played one magicker and zero dwarves, so this could be waaaaaaaay off-base, but if you got that AI strength roll, jack yourself up further with a strength spell, put on all horror plate, then get your ass stoneskinned, if you cast armor, the defense rolls for how much damage EACH layer of armor absorbs, natural plus horror plus mon fucking stoneskin, applies to all three. Can someone confirm or deny this? Or is it just a mystery? Maybe I just don't know how defence works.

All Armor really translates to, at mon, is taking roughly one tier of damage less than average. So you take 2-3 hitpoints of damage instead of 4-5, or take 4-5 instead of 6-7. Whether it's damage resistance or defense, the effect is the same.
If you stack it with a bunch've shit like mon stoneskin and horror plate, the same applies.
It's really as simple as that. I went without it 90% of the time, cause mana costs, yo.
All you need is strength, stoneskin, and about 300 hours twinking defense. Leave armor at home. It's not as if realistically, people have time for more than 2-3 mon casts. Any leftover mana can be saved for an emergency, like burrow or paralyze.
But I don't even know what to think about elementalist shit anymore, with how they've changed magickal subguilds. I think all old-style elementalists are obsolete. I'll take even a shitty assassin, ranger or warrior, and pair it with a handful of spells they really specialize in, over any old time elementalist. That's basically a templar!

As far as I know natural armor is endurance. So if you wanted to be defense 2k16 you'd want high endurance and agility
