If I want to RP and get into plots: Drovian If I want to fuck shit up: Elk If I want to fuck shit up and be able to juggle Mek and have everyone ask me to make mon empowered items (thus getting more mudsex and being loosely tied to potential plots): Krathi If I want to do all of the above but don't have the karma: Ruk.

krathi forever, enchant the entire world.
either human, or delf if you feel like applying for a sun runner (probably won't happen fyi!)
sul enchant owns until you get set up with your mon gear fyi. jeweler subguild probably, for easy empowering of rangz. strips of cloth are also good.

You don't need fucking rings or enchanted items.
When you play a mage, focus on the beauty of the element -- either have your character use it as a tool, or roleplay it as an extension of their being.
I almost always preferred the latter, just felt more real that way.
Play a ruk because the class is fun and useful.
Play a krathi because you'll be the life of the party. Plus they're deadly and fun.
Play an elkrosi because they are completely self-sustaining and you'll never have to drink water or eat again with a few sul refreshes every few IC days. Plus they are fun as fuck.
Play a drovian because you love masturbating to unaware parties engaging in mudsex. That can be...fun. >.> ...................................................................................................................................................<.<

Drovians do see an ungodly amount of mudsex... But as I mention in another thread, Krathi's are the closest thing to the reaper of death on the game. You can not only kill a mek in a few hits but you can then pick up the corpse and carry it around.
Personally I'd pick the Drovian because I think they're a bit more of an RP creator than Krathi's are.

People are blowing their wad about krathis in this thread, but much like a child or a bicycle, it takes a village to make a killer krathi. If you're not rocking a 'team' like Drake, then a krathi can really only go so far. It's true though that a lot of people will want to be a krathi's friend, for those RANGZ. I would advise not making any permanent ones for yourself...people will just want to kill you for them. If my best friend was playing a krathi, and I knew he had a few rings on him - I'd slit his fucking throat in his sleep.
Elkros is fine, I guess, if you want to spend 50 mana to do less damage than a maxed archery shot with a glass-tipped arrow.
I like ruks the best, and I think they shine the most with the extended subguilds. You're more survivable and self-reliant than the krathi, don't need people to forage for you, and draw far less attention. What you lose out on in the ridiculous extremes, you make up for in reliability.
I just wish I could get a definitive answer, on whether or not magic weapons used weapon skills at all.

Rukkians are some of the most well-rounded mages. I think only whirans and sorcerers eclipse them in overall ability to just do everything. The only thing they lack is raw firepower, but you don't need that when you can paralyze/sleep and just execute the helpless victim. Spells like burrow and sand wall, coupled with their defensive buffs, make them very safe to play whereas most of the other mages are only safe as long as they have the advantage but will get rekt as soon as someone has the upper hand against them.

Rukkians are also incredibly self sufficient. That forage, create food (people pay for food and water?), stoneskin (people pay for armor?), mount (people pay for inix?), shelter (people pay for tent?). Rukkians are all about getting all that stuff for free, on top of free awesome stats.

Drovian if you want to end up with a huge collection of poorly written mudsex that you can then turn into an ebook and sell on Amazon for beer money.

Elkros is fine, I guess, if you want to spend 50 mana to do less damage than a maxed archery shot with a glass-tipped arrow. If you say so. Throw out a sul chain lightning while taking one enemy after your skill in the spell is 80 or higher and get back to me. At higher levels of skill the bolts won't hit the caster, but rather everything ELSE in the room. That's six bolts of electricity hitting one target. Six. Or, dash into a group of mercs and just drop three or four sul chains before dashing out. They will be decimated.

If you go rogue, go rukkian? Or elkros or vivaduan. Ruk and viv can feed and water themselves, while elkrosians are 100% self-sustaining.

During th e copper war there was a elkran working for the north that was slaughtering allanaki pcs. 3 or 4 would go out on partrol, they would run in and chain lightning. One or two less pcs would come back, the others would be below half health, and the elkran was fine. It was pretty scary and a huge psychological blow against allanak, which had a team of mages i was part of who couldnt do shit to stop them.
Elkrans are nothing to fuck with
