Staff did good work with this change.
What boggles the mind is the constant insistence that nothing was wrong with it then Nyr's PLAY IN TULUK post then it being closed.

first i'm going to play catchup... Turns out Nyr does not shit gold. You won the thread. i'm literally just hopng to be in the top 3 at this point. No, the bastard who keeps wrecking his stolen inhertance and gettng a bad rep for his sadism is Ramsey Bolton. But you were close! goddamn ungrateful players how dare they not welcome my ham-fisted and ridiculous ideas with open acceptance Hey, who was that guy who said the staff keep makng work for themselves and then shutting down parts of the game because they made too much work? what was that guys name?I like a win, and them throwing a little piece on the end of 'vocal detractors of player and staff efforts in this area' that was them throwng us under the bus for their fuckups. Which is funny because i was actually prtty supportive of Raths ideas.
so yeah, ive been predicting this kind of thing... pretty much whenvr I describe how the staff sabotag themselves. For those of you predictng this will somehow enhance the game, Ive got to ask: since people arent playng together, why would thy start just bcause they have one less place to be away from one another? Considerng they just readded the atv i'm unclear why anyone would see them as chessmasters of human behavior. but I'm gettng off-topic. People cant make their own activity together because staff. Because world response. because setting. Because approval. All of those because staff. Consolodatng more playrs means more staff. And more "because staff" preventing activity more often because more staff. I predicted (half as a joke) the assclowns runng the game into the ground from the top of the staff heap (because Im mostly cool with the STs) would close outdoors to consolidate everyone into Allanak. Thats startng to look lke a possible outcome.

How many people on these boards said they'll play anywhere, but Tuluk? How many people here tried their best to play the least amount of time in Tuluk? Sometimes for good reasons, sometimes just due to the sheer inertia of the attitude 'tuluk sucks'. Well ... tuluk ... sucks. In great portion due to its docs, its ways, and the type of play that its culture tends to encourage. In greater portion due to a great chunk of playerbase being practically 'allergic' to Tuluk and everything Tuluki. Houses have been closed down before. Tribes. I guess they decided to close down an entire city. Its not like they didnt try to build it up. They gave their best attempt. They've got some awesome players running some high roles, they've put in a 'lot' of work and hours into it all. But the playerbase did not ... embrace it. Not in any way that's significant enough. It's harsh. But hey ... looks like players really can influence things. They've shat on the city for years and now it's nuked. What will players shit on next? Sorry man. The dogs don't like the dogfood. www.boredstupid.com/salesman_jokes/dogs_dont_like_it.shtml

I wanted to play in Tuluk but it's changed so many different times I don't know which side is up now. If Allanak changed what it was as much as Tuluk has, I wouldn't play there either.

You make it out as though people just decided to follow some meme of 'fuck tuluk' for no good reason. There are plenty of good reasons and they have been re-hashed over and over and over again. I wrote out a long post about the history of Tuluk and various points of failure between when it was re-imagined and where it is now, about to be closed. I deleted it because it doesn't matter anymore, if it ever did at all. Tuluk had been 'fixed' too many times to ever recover it's integrity and the staff were right to terminate it.

Sigh, just fucking sad, really.
No one would play there because of caps on clans and other dumb shit - all relatively recent (era of Nyr) changes, and then when the changes don't work to make for a decent place to play, they shut it down entirely.
I feel like the same thing will happen to the entire game.

Dude comes in, fucks it all up, and when the fuck ups make it an unbearable place to play, they just close it. Really? Seriously?

These forums really have some people who will whine at anything that comes around. Well, you just go right ahead thinking that closing an entire area in a totally OOC fashion will fix the problems in the game. It it will fix it as much as imposing clan caps in Tuluk, or adding the warrens, or closing Undertuluk, or adding shadow artists, or adding qynars, or removing qynars, or closing the Byn, or opening the Byn, or, or, or... what a fucking joke. Tuluk has been a total fucking joke for the longest time, and it really comes down to one thing: Nyr

gdb.armageddon.org/index.php/topic,47415.msg823302.html#msg823302 here we go, from 11 months ago: People play where they want to play, the game is largely cyclical in terms of playerbase focus and has been for the entirety of its existence, there was a war in which the T'zai Byn sorta got on one side of things and only recently got re-allowed back in Tuluk, crackdown on citizens from opposing cities plus the aforementioned means a seemingly larger playerbase in Allanak, gemmers are more noticed in Allanak and are openly allowed so that provides an avenue for play that isn't present in Tuluk, Tuluki bardic roles are absolutely open for play but not pushed that much since players are allowed to join IC (and at the same time, active bardic roles involved in the machinations of politics and the Tuluki playerbase liven up the experience there), players are worried that if they play in Tuluk in a time of stated upheaval that they might lose their characters (gasp), some players hate Nyr and think not playing in Tuluk will annoy Nyr (lol), things are changing often enough that perhaps this discourages some players from playing there, players think that saying over and over that Tuluk has a low playerbase makes it true all of the time even though at this very moment the logged-in playerbase is evenly split between both city-states (16 in one, 18 in the other), the people that aren't fans of Tuluk tend to be more vocal than people that are either neutral or like it and therefore their views are weighted correspondingly higher in the eyes of the average observer, or maybe it's gith defilers. Pick one or all of them. It doesn't really matter. Possible solutions: stop making it a problem to fix, and play the game where you want to play it, eventually everything will work itself out.and yet a cited reason for closure was lessened player impact. way to go nyr, you sure showed us how wrong we were about tuluk.

I personally think closing Tuluk was the right move. The docs have been changed repeatedly, it's lost its identity, players have varying opinion on how to play it, staff evidently are having a hard time keeping it staffed. All in all closing it (should have been IC too) will be for the best. That isn't to say it's a "good" thing it had to be closed. Obviously removing content from any game is never the best direction that can be taken, but once you start down that path and it become necessary.
What matters from this close are two things. Firstly that the staff are making what appears to be a concerted effort to turn the corner on some of the player complaints that have been piling up the last two years. They have Rathustra and Talia back, two of some of the most popular staffers in recent time. Nyr managed to not completely nuke that "do you feel neglected" thread, although once it got to private PMs I suspect things weren't as sensible. They're even attempting to do player driven plots in nak with that senate thing... although how lowly nobles are supposed to influence a senate vote in anyway, I have no idea. So there you go, clear signs an effort is being made. A+ for effort. Secondly it is MORE important what they do with this closure. It is pretty much essential that they have plans already forms and ready to execute regarding their plots, animations, and world story after Tuluk closes. You don't want this vague gap period as they do stuff, you want the transition to be seamless and you want to come out with strong content for players right away to show them the closure is leading to better days overall for the game.
TLDR - Tuluk shouldn't have had to be closed, but by this point I think it needed to be. Staff are clearly making attempts at addressing complaints by actions without publically acknowledging them. The most important thing is the content staff use immediately after the closing of Tuluk as it will be what people look at for a sign of whether this closure is benefit or burden to the game.
