I was trying this Burning Post II and I am boggled by the difficulty of all these rping things. Though the creativity of chargen is pretty okay, then when I tried speaking out in the game the first time.. I was so shocked that I was talking like a lolcat. Apparently you might need to invest in some language skills, something which I've failed to do and focused on a very combatty PC to explore the world and mechanics.

Yeah, I know I said I'd do a write up of the game. That's one of its problems, you can't really learn the language on your own either. Since the playerbase is so small, there's nobody really there to teach you. So most conversations cause headaches.

Well, the good thing is that it got things pretty fixed. Apparently I managed to encounter a glitch and made it so that I didn't have the defaulted language of the race that I purchased. It's all pretty done, but it feels quite a lot like Harshlands. Everyone's all friendly, friendly, totally different from the grit of Arm and it feels kinda like real life. It's okay, if you're looking for a more socially orientated MUD. I'm having an ok time, but I'm such a twink, I like to train up skills IG when I be alone.

Haven Update with CITATION!
So as some of you may know Haven used to have a pretty heavy forum moderation culture as executed by Discordance. It pretty much killed discussion and eventually a subforum called DMZ was created for +1 posts and casual conversation and shittalking. It ended up being kind of the de facto forum used because the only rules were don't out peoples alts and don't death threat... or something. Anyway a thread was created most recently about Haven 4.0 being "dead". I can copy the entire thread but for ease I will TLDR it...
Haven is dead I feel Haven is not dead Player numbers indicate Haven is dead Haven goes in waves, all games drop from their peaks I tried to play but my efforts were ruined by crybabies Maybe you were a baddie for the way you played Someone explain to me how game design "forces" players to be baddies, no one has ever done so properly Several people make points on the topic People are just dicks and if you look at their dickishness you can see they are dicks and it isn't game designs fault If game design doesn't cause behaviour change than why give people attractiveness debuffs for wearing socks. If that causes changes than all the other design encourages being a dick in-game. Notice how most of the people criticizing the game no longer player?

RE: Dead Game
HI... I'M GEORGE ZIMMER --- CEO AND FOUNDER OF THE MEN'S WAREHOUSE. TYR... IN LIGHT OF THE RECENT ANAL ANNIHILATION YOU'VE SUFFERED AT THE MANLY HANDS OF CRAYON AND HIS CADRE OF FOLLOWERS, SOMETHING THAT HAS LEFT YOUR ASSHOLE RESEMBLING THE BEATEN BOX OF YOUR WHORE WIFE AFTER I UNLEASHED MY GARGANTUAN GUT WRENCH ON HER, I KNEW I HAD TO PAY YOU A VISIT. I UNDERSTAND YOU FEEL INSUFFICIENT AS A MAN AFTER THE PROSTATE PENETRATION YOU'VE SUFFERED, AND I WANT TO ASSURE YOU THAT YOU'RE RIGHT. IT TAKES A CERTAIN TYPE OF MEAGER MALE TO RESTRICT CONVERSATIONS AMONG PEERS ABOUT THE MASSIVE MISCARRIAGE THAT IS HAVEN. WHEN YOU DECIDE YOU WANT TO RECLAIM YOUR MASSACRED MANHOOD, COME ON DOWN TO THE MEN'S WAREHOUSE. I'LL PUMP MACADORA'S PUNISHED POON FULL OF POLE MILK WHILE MY PROFESSIONALS FIT YOU FOR A FINELY TAILORED SUIT. I'LL EVEN LEAVE A NICKEL ON HER ASS TO HELP YOU COVER THE COST. YOU'RE GOING TO LOVE THE WAY HER GAPING GASH LOOKS. I GUARANTEE IT.
Then the DMZ is removed and we are to today.

As someone unfortunately invested in the midst of that Haven drama, the DMZ was crap and encouraged crap doublespeak.
Also there was a couple guys just constantly shitting on the game after I personally griefed them off of it (to hear them tell the tale).
Overall it gets a pass from me as a decent improvement.

Closing a subforum is whatever. Haven has a history of being moderated with a hysterical iron fist, so people should expect that sort of thing.
Forumbanning people for not currently playing is a bizarre and immature reaction, though. I've never heard of another MUD that does this. Great way to ensure that they completely depart from the community and never come back. Isn't Haven sustained by yearly reboots where people come back?
It's almost as bad as when SoI closed their entire forum, but at least there was something resembling a reason for that. Simply banning people who stopped playing your game because you don't want to listen to anyone who has objections with your game is infantile and weak-willed behavior.
I don't know this Tyr guy personally, but every time somebody mentions him, it's to point out what an insecure shitlord he is.

Note people who are not 'actively' playing can still login and view the forum they just can't post.

Even so, if I was someone who had taken a break from the game and found that it had earned me a posting ban for daring to not play for a while, I would be significantly less likely to return to a game where the staff pulls that sort of manchild shit.

Cybersphere
Staff response to attempted PC generation.
Ptolemais (3/21/2018 21:31:14 EDT) comments: As is clearly stated in the help file for advanced character generation, "a clear and concise summation at the end of the character history in regards to the character's concept, basic archtype or role, personality traits/flaws, friends/enemies, outstanding debts, life-shaping events must be included." I can't imagine how we can make this more clear, and it has very little if anything to do with New Carthage itself. Concerning your biographical history, for a tier3 character it is severely lacking; for example your character "learned how to steal cars"--okay, how? Who taught him? As is also explained in the tier3 help file, character histories must be detailed and up to the advanced character generation standards. Ea was kind enough to very gently suggest that you might want to start in standard until you become more adjusted to the game environment. I am not so gentle: if this is going to be your attitude whenever an admin tries to unoffensively offer you some advice, then maybe this isn't the right game for you.
Jesus I wrote a damn essay to make a largely disabled PC, took hours to write that PC. The options for Standard PCs are way less fun and cool than Advanced, yet you need about twenty times more text than Armageddon PC generation to experience them.
Would not recommend, but the staffer Rain seems really cool. Not sure whether to bother making another PC here. In terms of code vehicles and cybernetics are more advanced than Sindome but helpfiles and the like are more basic, and the game seems more hack and slash in general, less rp, and it seems that old players are more permanent "haves" than in Arm. It clearly comes from the same codebase as Sindome and Hellmoo, I would reccomend Hellmoo for a hack and slash game over this and Sindome for more of a life simulator.
Sindome looks better in terms of the mud interface.\
Dunno. I am dissapointed by the whole "if that's your attitude" thing, since I wasn't giving any attitude.
I don't really care about not being approved but I just hate pissy staff attitudes in a niche medium.

Has any game emerged as the new favorite? I'll make a character if any of them are decent. I'm willing to burn my Armageddon draft card and hop the fence if anyone will join me.

Nope. Arx is quite big, but it's definitely not a RPI. play.arxmush.org/I wouldn't necessarily recommend it, but you're desperate for some roleplay, sure.

I should check out Arx. I never thought I'd be a MUSHer but these days I meander into them for roleplay occasionally. They let me collaborate with others to my heart's content and write exactly the story I want to tell without being bounded by very much code or staff oversight. They are super low commitment and everyone is by and large chill, because permadeath and metaplay and ooc secrets are just not things.
I was never much of a hack and slasher so I don't regret that part. But I do miss Arm's crafting system at times and the setting and magic.

you are not confused. I work for Iron Realms Entertainment (the Achaea people) and build a text game all day in my pajamas. It is a sweet gig but a lot of hard work too. They are pretty much a ridiculously nice team of people to work for/with. It doesn't leave me with much time/inclination left to MUD as a hobby though.
