I'm just really happy Arm has permadeath, and that while staff will typically close savage clans before more moderate ones, there are no inexplicably wealthy pretty annoying gypsies anymore.

Deus Ex Machina volcano? Don't care, totally worth the effect. The only spot happy go lucky valley girls I think the game should house is she-nobles who like that sort of act.

What turned you off to it?

It has some slightly innovative design in places, but the outcome is fucking awful.

Meaningless, waffling roleplay from players who value emote word count above all else and regard it as the only factor in roleplaying. Most players blatantly pad their emotes with totally pointless nonsense just to make them longer, and since they don't have the actual writing prowess to produce long emotes of any real quality, the result is both ugly and excruciatingly slow.

Incompetent staff that throws public tantrums at players, "moderate" the forum in hilariously heavy-handed ways and publically post their incredibly frequent punishments for totally benign things like...

Total lack of anything happening in the game except for barely-IC instanced minigames that nobody outside of those present will ever hear about or be affected by. If you aren't participating in these, literally nothing remotely noteworthy will ever happen to or around you. The game itself is a chronically uneventful social simulator.

Positions of influence completely monopolized by a group of players in OOC collaboration with agreement to never let anyone outside the clique become relevant, have been around for the entire duration of the game, and essentially can't be challenged. For the two months that I played, literally no character of any kind of importance died or was opposed in any meaningful way.

Staff members also occupy multiple positions of power with their characters, like the town sheriff or the heads of the ruling families, and I'm not talking about background vNPCs but actual characters they play. One admin has like four or five such characters.

The game is really badly managed and played mostly by pretentious cunts. Their playerbase has a few genuinely good roleplayers, like any game will. The rest is bereft of any creativity and convinced that good roleplay is to spend fifteen minutes writing a 300-word emote about how they're sitting down in a chair, with 270 of those words being clearly nothing other than "what can I write to make this emote really long."

Oh, and you can play children who engage in sexual activities, and there's a coded 'rape' command and all kinds of really fucked up bullshit that was clearly put in the game by deviants who were into that shit rather than for valid design reasons. If you go into privacy and don't have coded sex before leaving, you will automatically be penalized. I'm not joking about that. The game will dock your RP EXP points.

Really bad allergies this year, put me under for a day.

My experience went something like this:
Read over the docs. They have character pages (eye roll)
create a character with shitty stats (because it won't let you go over)
spend an hour describing my body parts from my hair to my vagina and choosing a cup size (?)
enter the world holding a shotgun (which alarms people) and a PC is already standing in the starting area (that's not suspicious at all)
get greeted by my mentor, who was almost no help at all and told me he was busy working on something for his kiddie faction alt
*disconnect*
