Well, he is right in saying that he did not have anything to do with me. I mean, he gave me one magick item that I ... I never had to use it, but i used it couple times anyway. But it was creepy enough to keep around: a bloodied, still beating heart. He gave us a few quests, as I wrote in the thread, he had positive intentions even though in the end some of them did not bring positive results. He tried to make shit happen, which was a lot more than some of the other imms, though I did not agree with his choice of plots. Undead I think hurt the game a lot more than it did any good. If the race was a bit balanced, like if they suffered real damage and could be killed by sunlight, then I would say it is a good balance compared to their ridiculous stats. Aside from that, I felt very frustrated when I played Serpent and those uglies were my enemies.

Vampires weren't particularly worse than super-sorcs and whatnot. Less so, I think, because they didn't automatically have insane power, they just had to be killed in a certain way which, if you were able to bring one down to mortally wounded in the first place, there's a good chance you'd be able to orchestrate. Compared to a branched sorceror, or even a pre-nerf mindbender, both of which were also essentially immortal to 99.995% of potential opponents, vampires were not so absurd.
They were not inherently super powerful and their achilles heel had multiple different sources. Once you brought one to negative hp, you could call on any Krathi, sorceror, templar or anybody with a dispel magic wand to finish them off. It would be virtually unthinkable to actually get an accomplished sorceror into negative health in the first place unless you have similar power yourself.
They were also severely limited in what they could realistically do with their characters. You could do almost anything within reason with a psi or sorc, but vampires were essentially confined to the 'rinth and potentially Undertuluk, though I don't think any ever played from there on any kind of permanent basis. In fact, there were so few vampires throughout the history of the game that any problems with the race were largely negated by the fact that almost nobody had to deal with them. People tend to confuse ghouls for vampires, but ghouls were just regular characters with bonus strength.
I think the game suffered much more from the elemental PCs, and from the ridiculous amount of mindbenders and assorted mages/sorcs forcing their way into everything at the time. They gave a mindbender to someone with 1 karma and a year tops on the game. It was ridiculous. Most of the complaints about undead always seemed to stem from people who were unhappy that they weren't involved, but pretended like they were concerned for the health of the game.

whatever his intentions were, he showed incredible favoritism to a select few of players and showered them with incredibly one-sided powers and ability. his select crew of vampire elves were only unkillable through the 'dispel magick' spell which is available to a whopping 3 guilds. one of those guilds is special app only (southern templar), one is 8 karma, and the other is 4 karma and countered by base class of his nilazi vampire elves.
i mean fine whoopety-doo he had good intentions, that doesn't somehow mitigate criticisms that he was a bad staffer who gave god-mode to a select few that made the game an arguably shitty place for everyone who wasn't in their cool kids club.

People tend to confuse ghouls for vampires, but ghouls were just regular characters with bonus strength. 1)the major downside to vampirism is that you're a pariah. more than one of the PCs that got the Bhag treatment were Nilazi elves, which makes being even more of a pariah pointless. 1a)elves, being tribal people, formed a vampire tribe meaning they had insta allies that wouldn't betray them. 2)they went outside of the Rinth and Undertuluk plenty. in no way were they confined. i remember seeing logs of them doing sacrifices at the snake head altar in mantis valley so they could get a super kewl magick item from a demon. 3)That the counter to them is a Krathi, sorcerer, templar, or rare magick item is bullshit and essentially makes them invulnerable to almost the entire mundane population since mundanes are supposed to fear and distrust magick items, magickers and magick, and templars. not to mention that the weakness of vampires was a pretty closely guarded secret (big surprise), or that the total sum of Krathi, southern templars, and sorcerers is a tiny fraction of the playerbase. it's not so much unhappy about being involved in that as much as lopsided favoritism. why does the dude with 1 karma you mentioned get to play a mindbender but other people get special apps rejected? why do these guys get super cool plots and powers, one-on-one hangouts with master sorcerers, custom-coded shit, when all of the clans with mundanes in them get jack shit and don't even get half-assed RPTs thrown their way? while bhag, halaster, and shalooonsh have their super mage power-fantasy clans full of custom-code and specially made areas for them, people playing the bread and butter of Arm and by the docs got jack shit. not at all surprising that people did, and still do, resent the staff of that era for it.

Bhag had a couple d-elves at one point that he gave a steel sword too. The guy with the sword ended up falling off the shield wall and dying to a gith. Bhag res'd him. Great staffer.

It's not easy being a boss. As portrayed in The Lego Movie. Note the key role that micromanagement plays (skip ahead to 1 minute). The bosses, they just want to make sure everything doesn't fall apart.

I bet the person playing that delf with the steel sword thought he was a great staffer So it goes with Armageddon, so it goes with third world dictatorships, where a tiny percentage of the population are loving it, and the majority are split between getting actively fucked in the ass and avoiding an ass fucking. People wonder how batshit regimes like North Korea or Zimbabwe can survive, if it's as terrible as everyone says. That's because ~5-10% of the population is loving it.

What do you have to base this on? I have nothing to prove and really could care less these days. I enjoy making fun of Arms misgivings but if you look at that time frame it's the great majority of players and ex-staff from that time agree that Hal/Bhag did a lot of shitty things. I'm not saying others didn't I only know about the exploits of those 2 because it was glaringly obvious. Naiona was pretty bad too though considering she played Eunoli.

Also I've never held grudges against anyone or anything. I live in the moment and the present. I just enjoy looking at history and talking about our memories. That doesn't mean I have a huge chip on my shoulder.
