I'm assuming that the HG didn't have his energy shield up or he would've (probably) reverse-ganked Gin on the spot. Granted the guy would have had twice as much HP as Gin, but by the time he knew he was being backstabbed he probably would have been at relatively low HP himself.
Another possible reason is because a HG mage has.... 50 mana. (55 with a gem, I guess.) You get 1 mon cast (or 2 sul) and that's it. (Assuming they even succeed, because even at max there's at least a 10% chance you'll fail a cast even when you're not in combat.)
I see HG magickers, and I get the appeal in it, but if you have the urge to play one, play a Ruk. You can spell up and go, and not have to worry about having a mana pool. HG elkrosian / Krathis are kind of worthless because they can only cast 1-2 spells at a time, and those classes are designed to be most effective while raining down heavy room effect spells. A rukkian just needs to throw on armor/fury/stoneskin and you're good to go. I remember a couple years ago there was a HG Ruk (Boulder / Sand Shrew / other things - I think he pretended to have no name and just let you call him whatever) who had like all horror armor and stoneskin on. He would just walk into places like that den of 15+ gith in the Red Desert or solo melee mekillots, and come out untouched or alive by virtue of sheer armor.

Every time something bad happens to an HG magicker, I assume said HG magicker did something to deserve it.

Standing before you is a half-giant of impressive size and bulk, even by the standards of his race. His powerful arms, shoulders, and rounded gut show an unusual amount of padding for a low-born being. He skin is riddled with scars, calluses, and blotchy sun burns, and has taken on a reddish hue that tells of many hours without the luxury of shelter. The sides of his head have been shaven clean, leaving only a strip of short hair as wide as three of his own fingers that runs from the crown of his forehead, to the back of his neck. Calm, slate-grey eyes peek out of dark sockets, resting above a pair of pudgy cheeks. His head hosts short, stubbly hairs and his mohawk grows out in an un- maintained fashion. A dark, brown-black beard grows out on his chin, cheeks and jaw like a scraggly, unkempt tumble-weed. The bulky, ruddy-hued half-giant is in excellent condition. His skin has a stonelike quality. The bulky, ruddy-hued half-giant's head glows dimly red. The bulky, ruddy-hued half-giant is using: <worn on head> a dusty jade-lined, plated horror helmet <worn on face> a dusty pair of sunslits <worn around neck> a dusty fanged, inix-shell gorget <worn about throat> a shimmering shadowy dull black gem <slung across back> a dusty rune-carved, stone hammer <worn across back> a dusty large, blue leather backpack <worn on torso> a bloodied silt-horror shell breastplate <worn on right shoulder> a dusty scrab-shell shoulder plate <worn on left shoulder> a dusty scrab-shell shoulder plate <worn on arms> a pair of silt horror-shell vambraces <worn around wrist> a new polished tortoiseshell bracer <worn around wrist> a polished tortoiseshell bracer <worn on hands> a new dusty pair of gith-toothed gauntlets <worn on forearms> a dusty supple, dark-grey strap-sheath <worn as belt> a pouched, brown hide belt <hung from belt> a dull, chipped crystal <hung from belt> a dusty massive, spiked club <worn around body> a dusty hooded, darkly-stained sandcloth greatcloak <worn about waist> a bloodied sun-patterned batiked sash <worn on legs> a pair of silt horror-shell greaves <worn on right ankle> a dusty rune-marked pouch on a leather cord <worn on feet> a dusty pair of sturdy sandcloth and leather boots I knew him as Boulder. This is an outdated version of his gear. I found his corpse with my Whiran, surrounded by about twelve gith, in the chasm northwest of Tuluk. Those are not normal gith. I think when I found him, there was even more silt horror shell going on

I remember him, pretty chill guy. Believe he always talked about using his Krok Armor whenever he travelled. Gave me sand hammers all the time.

Yeah, I was playing a Kuraci when he was around (about the time of the 5-6 Whiran fuck-heads who got the class bumped up in karma), and the Gypsies were called him Sand Shrew for some reason. He used to put on stoneskin and sit by the road very still and pretend to be a rock. Seemed like a really well played character from an elementalist standpoint. As you said, he was very passive and chill, like you would expect an earth-mage to be.
Kinda curious who played him / what his deal was.

Hello everyone, Gin's player here. Since I am being mentioned, I should clarify certain things. For starters: Still, Quick and Gin didn't just murder blindly. Thank you for saying so, since it is true. As playing a leader character in a lawless area where every ungemmed mage, sorcerer, psion, undead eventually found its way to rinth, I had to make sure I keep tabs on everyone in the rinth. I also felt that I had to make sure everyone and I mean, -everyone who comes to rinth- is brought to compliance. That meant, they should respect our authority, understand clearly that I have no tolerance toward someone plotting against me, or someone I work with. Everyone thought we were villains, and when you have villains, people tend to become heroes. Well, the would be heroes were not tolerated. In fact, I think I should make a thread just like Shattered's player about "Gin/Quick and the band of crazy" from 2006-2008. Perhaps that will show our perspective better. Anyhow, I do have a few regrets from back then, one such being: Gin...was a nice guy and didn't overly abuse his powers. Tell that to the CAM HG elkrosian he spam backstabbed while invisible due to psionic powers. Douchebaggery to the max. Yes. It was wrong of me to kill that him that way. I killed him because: a) he told a few people that he would revenge his friends (Mages in CAM were his friends that we killed a few days prior to this) or b) he came to Folley and we argued and he said something I could not tolerate, right in the Folley where I am the leader of a bunch of scumbags. I have killed 2 halfgiant mages around that time, one died fair and square, the other I was invisible while killing him. It has been so long since that I do not remember which half giant is which, unfortunately. So, I want to make this clear: that half giant would be dead, no matter what. My mistake was not killing him, but killing him unfairly. I will try to explain in more detail in the other thread, where I will explain our gang in those times, but we had enough attacks from crazy (elementalists, gemmed, sorcerers, psions, undead, or undead mages) that we had strict protocols for killing someone cleanly and efficiently, if the decision to kill them is made. And at the time, there was practically no one who could stop us from killing them, once we made our minds. So, I am pretty sure, that half giant would probably last a few more days tops. Maybe he could kill someone from our gang too, I don't know. But the end result, would not change much. This is NO excuse though. I was wrong. It was wrong of me to kill him in such a way. I should have been punished, and I did report myself for this incident. I emailed to the staff after the PK, just like everytime we PKed, and I wrote in detail about why and how it happened. I did not get punished for this, but I should have been. Instead, they nerfed the psionic invisibility. So, if I knew the player behind the character (which I don't), I would apologise to him now. Though, this brings another interesting point: I am surprised that you, of all the people, -YOU- are accusing me of abusing power in armageddon. You, who spammed his magick orb item to stun us 8 times, as soon as you saw us when playing Bones. It was a magick item casting an offensive whiran spell, that knocks someone in 2 hits (3 if they have as much stun as you) but it WAS NOT initiating combat and it did not have a delay. I guess that is why you just spammed it, instead of casting something. And when I say spam, I mean you probably hit the macro more than 10 times, hoping it would finish us all one by one before we realized you were attacking without combat. You were spamming it so fast, you did not notice the last 3 of them bounced back at you and cut your spamfest in middle. That was with Bones. Let's talk about your whiran, Seik. Since you posted about her here on the boards as well, let me clarify how you played her too. You first came to rinth and teleported me while I was in the middle of Folley. I ended up in the middle of nowhere, but I had my own way to return. That got you a kill mark from us, but Samos practically begged me and called in a favor to him and I let you live for that. Then, I took a vacation for 15 days, and I learnt that you came to Folley with Elementals and killed Marin while I was gone. This time I had the gemmers in the southside as well as all our crew to watch for you. Because you stopped logging in. Or you would log in only 1-2 minutes at a time to avoid us. Really. You used staying out of the game to avoid us. But that too was not a big issue. We were constantly trying to contact you every 10 min or so, if you logged in, we would not want to miss the opportunity. But then you logged in, got yourself 4 elemental and attacked me in front of Folley. This too, was not an issue for me. I would use surprise attack as well. The issue was this: 145/145 154/167 140/140 walking - standing> The tall and thick figure in a dark, hooded cloak says to you, in unnaturally toneless sirihish: "I's think he in shock from gettin dem naughty bits cut off."
145/145 154/167 140/140 walking - standing> A wispy, transparent sylph has arrived from the east. A wispy, transparent sylph has arrived from the east. A wispy, transparent sylph has arrived from the east. A wispy, transparent sylph has arrived from the east.
145/145 154/167 140/140 walking - standing> An icy cool breeze swirling about you abruptly, a female voice says to you, in southern-accented sirihish: "I've heard how you would take pleasure in destroying me..too bad you shall not get that chance, you little -bitch-."
145/145 154/167 140/140 walking - standing> As howling dervishes engulf the room within a torrential hurricane, a female voice shouts, in southern-accented sirihish: "It ends, here!" Someone issues an order to all who will heed it. A wispy, transparent sylph stops guarding someone. A wispy, transparent sylph slowly fades into existence. A wispy, transparent sylph lightly hits your hand. A wispy, transparent sylph hits at you, but you dodge out of the way. A wispy, transparent sylph stops guarding someone. A wispy, transparent sylph slowly fades into existence. A wispy, transparent sylph hits your body. A wispy, transparent sylph lightly hits your arm. A wispy, transparent sylph stops guarding someone. A wispy, transparent sylph slowly fades into existence. A wispy, transparent sylph hits your body. A wispy, transparent sylph hits at you, but you dodge out of the way. A wispy, transparent sylph stops guarding someone. A wispy, transparent sylph slowly fades into existence. A wispy, transparent sylph hits your head, wounding you. Your vision goes black. Snarling, someone gestures to you, and a slew of sylph-like beings rush forward, the winds encircling them protectively!
66/145 154/167 0/140 walking - sleeping> Someone's form is enshrouded by the howling winds as the elemental beings tear into your flesh!
66/145 154/167 0/140 walking - sleeping> You cannot maintain your psionic eavesdropping. You cannot maintain your psychic awareness. You cannot maintain your augmented psychic awareness. You cannot maintain your psionic contact. You seriously macroed your speech for this? Were you trying to fabricate the perfect log? To an outsider who reads the log later, this would not look like you just walked into the room and "order all followers kill Gin"? And the emotes are flowery in the way, it almost reads like the heroic confrontation of a mere gemmed whiran against forces of evil. Touching. And the reason we did not do anything while you start this? We probably were gawking at your heroic posture and it was not all you spamming "e;e;s;s;say "blablabla";order all kill;". I am curious if you also macroed what you would say if I died there. Would it be like a challenge to the rest of the crew that they would be next? And we are not even at the best part of the story yet. After you failed to kill me there, you did the crappiest, most code abusive way to escape. You quit the game as soon as the combat excited timer was off. The bad news for you at the time, was that we were being watched by staff as much as a Templar. Some of the staff really wanted to find some mistake of mine, such that, I even received a warning for writing a "harsh biography entry". So, yes, they did see what you did there. They saw you do this, and they saw you log off from the game as soon as the combat was over. That is why, I never had to email about reporting you, they already saw what you did and stored you. And another funny story: At the end of 2007, going to the Void for a Nilazi was nerfed. Funny enough, this was not because of us. What I heard was, you created a nilazi after Seik. Starting yet again a revenge character. And I heard you abused going to the void to spam train your spells so much, that you almost maxed in couple of days, but a staffer saw you doing it and stored that character too. Really? Were you this butthurt? Or is it all the macroed says/emotes you saved after killing me/us that drove you into another attempt? After not getting another revenge attempt from you, I thought you finally got over it. But now I see, that you did not, you just took it to "whining at the boards" level. Whatever floats your boat, I guess. But you guys have a saying: "Cauldron calling the kettle black". This applies well when you call me power abuser. I am not without shame. At the very least, I have wronged that half giant. I probably have wronged a few more people, but I doubt. I really -really- doubt that the number is more than a few. I killed or ordered someone else to kill for me, for little offenses, but those are not in my list of shames. The time and the circumstances demanded so, and I certainly do not regret playing a ruthless Guild Boss in armageddon. But you, FJ, or lulz. You. Of all people. -You-. Calling me an abuser. Tsk tsk.

Killing a character in RPI MMORPG with precreated flowery scripts, and so... Then whining about dead characters played years ago in a forum because you can not do in game's original one. That's perfect. Amazing level of nerdness there. Thank you.

Ghost,
Dude. There's never a need to feel sorry for, or apologize for, killing a HG magicker. If you're going to apologize for anything, apologize for the whiff of staffpettery that clung to that whole Guild crew, but then again, that was during the Anything Goes Teh World Is ENDING era, so who cares even on that account.
Killing an HG magicker is a goddamn public service. I actually liked Boulder a little, and I still laughed when he died.

I know Bhagharva in real life . I used to hang out at his place and watch him fuck people over. The issue with Bhagharva and most of the story tellers/Imm's is they forget to be impartial. A good story teller doesn't care about the ending it's the journey that should count. People are going to throw wrenches into your well thought out static story, the trick is to react to the unpredicted events and either edit the story to suit the new direction or gently nudge it back on track. Just because someone does something to disrupt your plans doesn't mean he/she did it to be a dick and maybe the story will turn out better if you let it run the new course Oh, you think!? Yes, I'd say that it is the central issue around which Armageddon's staff fuckholery oscillates. If you ever see Bhag again in real life, tell him how much he sucked as an impartial arbiter and storyteller for the masses, for me.

Thanks for posting that, I didn't have a log of it and had forgotten how hilarious that was. Of course I was a twink, I won't even deny that fact. Point of contention: My nilazi I made after Seik wasn't a revenge pc, but rather just some dunce I had in UT that was eventually hunted down or something by npc soldiers. I tried climbing to escape and fell, breaking my neck in the process. That was the pc where staff had given me a comment, chastising me for spelling up WAY too fast (something like 2.5 days played, near max) Seik was DEFINITELY a revenge pc, won't even deny it. And yeah, I used macros. Whoops.
