People do not want staff involvement, they want to be able to affect change on the world. They want to be able to make camps, build walls, change a curtain to a door, invent new spice, become something of note. Create a new clan.
These things cannot be achieved without staff involvement. Everything that can be achieved without staff involvement is achieved. People collect the best armor and gear. People tell stories between characters. People create raiding groups, rogue gicker groups, indie hunting groups. They are groups though and not clans nothing permnant nothing transformative to the world. There is even exploration and making up NPC tribes and stuff of that nature. The holy grail of player progress is master crafts which allow them to leave a mark but again staff involvement it's just a more organized and achieveable form of staff involvement.
I would propose a better system but as there is no real improvement staff side I don't much see the point. I do think my assessment is right based on how things used to be. I would be curious how the game has 'evolved'.

Change of mentality and be the change clearly hasn't worked. It's been a tagline on the GDB for a while and I think many of the people who sincerely go through with it end up on these boards disaffected.

I likewise find it silly to eschew food descriptors for skin. Burnt Copper, Burnt Chocolate, Burnt Caramel, Mocha toned, Desert toned. It's an adjective. None of them are as problematic as something like 'mulatto'.

Go to your local MUSH, check out the wiki with the character pictures. At least MUD players can describe deformity and stuff even if they are buff or curvy they might have scars or a missing arm or sun bleached hair or something. MUSHes use "played by" which they use a picture for. Given the majority of pictures of people are 'good' or 'sexy' or 'attractive' you can imagine the grit factor on any game regardless of theme going down.
Why do I bring it up?
Armageddon and MUDs and RPI are not the epicenter of text smut.

  Okay this is someone I have had a conversation with. I do not share a server with them. As you can see we are not friends. I go up to the top left, search their name and I can bring up the old conversation whether I have deleted all my messages or if they have blocked me. The only thing that stops me (or someone on my account) from checking this is if Zombino over here changes his name thus I no longer know what to search for or they delete their account. |
