Jcarter, You seriously think Arm is a small enough circle that giving someones first name out is going to lead to some sort of targeted malice towards this person, let me flip the tables -- would you be ok with me dropping the first names of staff members? do you think the playerbase would be? probably not. when first names of staff members and ten year old phone numbers were accessible for all of 10 mintues the sky was falling but now that's not the case? I was pretty much okay with staff having all their shit leaked in that doc because I knew nothing bad would come of it and that everyone was overreacting. I still think dropping the doc without filtering it was a dick move, but it was quickly remedied so no ill will towards Barka from me. Just like nothing would have come of that dude dropping that other dude's first name. I also don't really see how deleting one post would be "babysitting" someone. It's one of the same sorts of overzealous moderation you criticize staff for... However, I actually do believe you when you say you didn't ban him because he's pro-staff or whatever. I just think you wouldn't have banned someone like PPP or Bitter if they name-dropped someone. You'd probably edit it out though. |

plus @rgs nergal confirmed what jcarter was already saying by deleting the first name reference in response to privacy/doxxing concerns from other players get a clue u fucking moron  All that "confirms" is that staff are walking on egg-shells, are being careful, and don't want to look like hypocrites for their overblown reaction to the event that started this thread. |

You'd probably edit it out though. because i saw it at 2 am when i was taking a shit and reading the forums on my phone. dude posted at around midnight, i deleted it, and went back to bed. he obviously signed up with an agenda. his agenda was to talk about and name his roommate. despite the common belief that i am obsessed with armageddon mud and lurk 24/7 ready to take down the staff at any minute, i actually have a job and a life. a life where i don't want to be refreshing the forums every thirty minutes to make sure some whackadoo with an axe to grind isn't dropping names every twenty minutes. he also signed up with a bullshit e-mail address he made directly for the forums. so yeah go figure i don't see any good reason to not ban this guy who's coming over to out his old roommate and signing up with a dummy e-mail address. especially when there's tons of whackadoos from the GDB who want to come over here to stir shit up. last time i had to delete posts with someone's irl information, they wouldn't shut the fuck up over pining over the other player and they got ultimately banned. i'm not here to babysit the shitbags that emigrate from the GDB. that's why metekillot's racist ass is banned from here. and that's why other players have been banned for posting racist shit as well that i got a lot of slack over and literally likened to hitler for. i think my standards are pretty fair. don't post racist shit and don't go dropping RL information about other players, including their first name. apparently this is a very difficult concept for some people who get punished by these rules tho and want to pretend they were being racist to teach bigots a lesson or didn't ~~mean~~ to doxx it was just a byproduct of their 20 year-old anguish against their roommate. |

That all makes sense to me I suppose. I would agree that you've been very fair in general. I still wouldn't say you were being fair with him specifically, but that isn't worth quibbling over.
I do have a question though. Do you think this opinion you have of banning people who are too much of a nuisance to be similar to the way staff ban people from the game or GDB? PPP's constant requests to staff and argumentative nature on the GDB, for instance. (sorry PPP you're the only example I can think of at the moment that is similar, I still think you were in the right and staff was in the wrong on this one)

(sorry PPP you're the only example I can think of at the moment that is similar, I still think you were in the right and staff was in the wrong on this one) because i don't really give a shit about being fair to a guy who signs up under a dummy e-mail address to post their grudge against their roommate and tries to out them by name. you get treated with fairness when you act like someone who's trying to be a member of the board. when armers come here and do nothing but spout insults -- not 'yeah i think you're full of shit this character was x, y, z' but flat out talk shit -- or just do things to stir things up, they don't get fairness. i'm not here to sit on the fairness throne for everyone who wants to test the line, and it's for a reason: the GDB is full of petulant children that are so mad about this website existing they can't help themselves from signing up just to come talk shit. this has included helpers, ex-staff members, and current players of Arm. that being said, the number of people who have been banned can be counted on one hand. two of them were banned for flat out racism. one was banned for doxxing for the reasons stated. another was banned for bringing in a shit ton of drama, being obsessed with another player irl, and didn't drop it. the rest are people who signed up on the forums to do nothing but troll whose schtick i got sick of. plenty of people are argumentative to me here. yourself included. but i haven't banned you nor fucked with your privileges in any way. because even if i think you're an idiot and stir up shit, you at least contribute to discussion and aren't here to "troll" or w/e GDBers want to pretend it is where they make accounts to just post 'wow just wow u r all fat obsessed losers'. so no i don't really consider these situations similar. |

Honestly, I think banning the guy outright was a bit much.
On the other hand, however, I wouldn't take kindly to someone trying to stir the pot after the dust settled like that either.

On the other hand, however, I wouldn't take kindly to someone trying to stir the pot after the dust settled like that either. ok. i honestly don't want to deal with every retard that signs up here. that's the simple truth of it. i don't care about defending barka's honor or the reputation of the board because it's a video game who gives a shit. armers will win a war of attrition with me because they have nothing better to do with their time. the number of arm players who get so righteously up in arms over people existing on the internet and decide they gotta show them fellas what's-what by registering over here and just trying to stir the pot demonstrates it. seriously, you now have people like metekillot, that signed up to do nothing but shit-talk people, literally bragging about how they posted slurs and then got banned. but they only did it to teach us bigots a lesson. yeah, ok. i have no interest in dealing with sleepless in zalanthas, or getting involved in some twenty year old bullshit that has nothing to do with this site. seriously, read the guy's posts. his roommate isn't barka and he has no fucking clue if his roommate is in any way involved beyond some gut feeling. the last time rl names got posted was wikileaks drop. some ex staff first names got released on a website on a user's private website they linked here and were taken down within twenty minutes. when that happened, armageddon mud staff flipped the fuck out and had a melt down where they had to allegedly cease working on the MUD because they felt their safety was threatened. players were screaming and gnashing their teeth over the risk to life and limb to staff. i thought it was stupid but made sure to carefully vet documents anyway. now we got this fruitloop coming over here and dropping RL names. i don't want to deal with this bullshit, especially not at 3 in the fucking morning when this guy decides it's time to tell the world about what happened in 1999 when his mean roommate logged into his video game account. i don't care and don't have the patience for this. for a while i made the mistake of thinking that armageddon mud players were normal human beings. then i saw how hard staff tried to punish people for having the audacity to post on a message board. and i read posts where people like dan have decided that we are worst than pedophiles and child rapists because we talk about a video game. we also had a poster on the boards telling me they hope i am raped and murdered because someone accidentally dropped first names of staff members and ten year old cell phone numbers, but took them down after 20 minutes. and random people imported their crazy drama that resulted in suicidal threats. i've learned my lesson. armers are gamers like any other. loud, obnoxious baby huey-esque manchildren. even the catladies of the Arm gdb are just as bad. so i'm not going to sacrifice time away from my family or work or free time to tend to whatever new shit storm these retards have dreamed up. i know that's very hard for Armers to swallow and accept as truth because they lack two of those three things, so i fully anticipate the oncoming shitstorm of 'WOW JUST WOW JCARTER IS LITERALLY JUST LIKE NYR AND HATES CRITICISM' the next time someone gets banned for throwing around the n-word or documenting their grievances with their bullies in high school. |
