Why did the GDB lock the Meta-game thread? It was still producing discussion. There was a post like literally less than half an hour before the staff closed it.

Because Euronymos doesn't want there to be any discussion about that sort of thing. Obviously. There's not going to be any sort of changes or improvements in-game or staff side because of that discussion, so why bother.
Just one more example of how Euro is carrying on Nyr's legacy of shutting down "taboo" discussion and disallowing actual conversation about the game, and its many flaws.

Well... huh. It is clearly being treated different than "regular threads". It wasn't in violation of any of the forum rules. Open threads are not usually shut down when a staff member decides that they have petered out.
Its special treatment begs a lot of uncomfortable questions. The reasons given for closing it don't jive. Those reasons aren't used on 99% of standard threads.

Some things will never change. Keep up the good work, urinemoose. We need the occasional reminder of why you're seen as such a knob in the first place.

The reasons given for closing it don't jive. Those reasons aren't used on 99% of standard threads. Back when I first started playing and was cruising the boards to gather information about the game world that wasn't clear in the docs, I noticed that threads were closed with that kind of reason all the time. The heavy-handed moderation was one of the first things that put me off about staff at that time. They'd close threads because the topic had come up before, because threads had "run their course" and there was supposedly nothing else that anyone could possibly contribute, and for other weird reasons that seemed to boil down to "because I said so." I don't really see that so much anymore, but it looks to me like Eury likes that old-fashioned form of moderation.

A few players were going back and forth in a cutesy way. Nyr was like, "What is this? I don't understand these emotions I'm starting to feel. This thread must be stopped." AFAIK, threads are closed on impulse for any reason.

He really needs to be embarrassed off the current host of staff like his predecessors was.

They're happy that they've got a chance to close the thread, and now they've got a locked casket on the wall to point at and say, "Look, we've discussed this already. Let it go." In the face of further critique, that thread and its incapability to actually change a damn thing is going to be used by staff or others to forgive their own lethargy in improving the meta-game. I know it's going to happen, because I've seen it done before.
And don't dare expect to be able to open a discussion about the meta-game again in the next couple of years. We've had our shot, people! Euronymos has decided the conversation is over! There's nothing more to be had from talking to the playerbase about the issues they face every day, the conundrums and logical hoops they jump through that they're starting to ignore for the sake of their own enjoyment. Tearing down those hoops won't improve anything, no; let's just pretend from the staff side that they don't exist, and then punish the people who exploit them. It's worked for us so far!
I put a lot of thought into that thread, and I made a point to be polite and approaching civil discussion. To just have all of that invalidated and thrown into the trash pit that is the GDB is disgusting, all because four or five "personalities" decided to shitpost the last couple pages up and give staff the excuse to shut down the discussion. And of course it's Euronymos, who doesn't care about what other people think about him, because he knows that our opinions of him as a staffer do not matter in the slightest. No matter that it's not staff members who are supposed to be moderating the GDB (hello, Helpers), and it's not matter that the thread's existence is indicating (among other things) that there is a significant portion of the playerbase who are keen on discussing this topic. Nope, let's just have a few tools post there and give staff a good excuse to close it.
The way this game is run and the way discussion is had about this game is like a fascist camp with no accountability. It's absolutely no wonder this board has now become a better avenue to discuss Armageddon than the constricting environment that is the GDB.
And, before you ask, "Hey, why are you so critical about this?" The answer to that is because I care, and because I know that they don't care about me or my opinions.
If I could ask politely, "I don't think the discussion in that thread was completed. Could it be unlocked, please?" and I had a sliver of an expectation that request would be considered, then I'd do it. But if I sent that in, the notion would be rejected immediately and vitriolically. So here I am, writing a bunch of toxicity to prove both of our points that the other side is equally shit. You can call it an over-reaction; I call it perspective on this type of thing happening over the past five years.

I double dog dare one of you to make a gdb poll asking players their feelings on having threads locked. Without a bunch of obnoxious unrelated options like most poll threads have. Just yes you support it or no you don't.

The GDB is a piece of shit. That's all there is to it. Eury was pretty awesome, though, when dealing with my most recent storage request. I'm positive that he cares about the players (at least in his approach to me). I have nothing else to say other than the obvious: The GDB is a piece of shit.

Manonfire once describe the GDB as a black hole of ideas.
Found that to be one of the wisest things I ever heard of the place.
The next relevant parable I heard long ago on a phone call with a store manager in the midst of a disaster created by an employee of his.
"Fucking high school never ends."
I believe both apply in equal measure.
