Muggers

Guard literally always stops people who are merely walking, even if you don't have the skill. Awesome! What will happen to a mugger is this: the first time you attack someone who's a decent fighter, and you don't manage to knock him out right away, you die. Also you'll probably have a hard time finding a place where anyone goes but doesn't have soldiers stationed or patrolling past. Allanak pretty much has a soldier every two or three rooms and/or patrolling ones coming through regularly. True about the fighter, if you're just going to beat him down. If you're going to use, throw/sap with a partner, impossible to loose unless you both suck and miss. Openly attacking people in city streets is almost unheard-of because it's nearly impossible to get away with, especially if it's your first time trying to play a charactger of that nature. Not true, not impossible. Just not easy either. It's not for a complete newbie. Attacking people in lawful areas is just about the most attention-gathering thing you can do in Armageddon and you will have the whole city on your ass after the first time. I'm counting on it. Not many people get the pleasure of playing someone infamous! It's the kind of thing staff will interfere with, too. Expect to have soldiers and templars animated. I think this is somewhat justified, too, because if muggings in lawful areas were to start being a regular occurrence, it's a huge deterrent to being out in public and moving around the city. This would be pretty horrible for the game. People don't really want everyone to start hiding in their apartments and clanhalls, and rightly so. There already is staff involvement in this. They dropped VNPC crim flagging at night time. Why WOULD staff get involved against you? Seriously? You aren't killing any of their sponsored characters? Are you interrupting any of their exciting plots? Noooooo.... you're finally adding flavor to a component of the game they could not create via code realistically and random enough: Danger in the city streets at night. Playing this role may actually get you Karma if you play it realistically and don't abuse the code.

The biggest drawback is lack of guard skill. I'm not convinced guard stops speed walkers consistently unless mastered. They also interfere from time to time because they're bored, and whatever the fact that logically, the NPCs wouldn't give a shit, any PC doing something even remotely shady (even within the boundaries of perfect RP) are an easy target to fuck with while sipping their diet coke.

Yeah, but I think that making a character concept out of attacking PCs in lawful areas is one of the few things where they're justified in paying more attention than they otherwise would. This is also why I'd recommend raiding grebbers instead of mugging in the city.

Staff haven't messed with me in game in a VERY VERY long time. I twink realistically. I don't abuse code, not overtly at least, and I certainly don't cheat. They have no cause to IMM slap me.
Also if the staff pays more attention to you, you have the wonderful opportunity to show off your RP skills. When they see you mugging people as a realistic component of the game and your character adding depth, harmless depth that doesn't kill their sponsored players, they might even reward you... with karma. You can get 2 karma for RP and 2 karma for contributions.

Sooo... Somebody is taking this mugging thing WAYyy to seriously. They read this post and decided to make a mugger, and suddenly 3-4 new passed out NPCs are found every day.
Not how this works...

PK mugging is serious business. If you don't dedicate your RL to it, you're doing it wrong.

PK mugging is serious business. If you don't dedicate your RL to it, you're doing it wrong. How do you figure? It was a joke. I've killed a lot of PCs but that was mostly always them attacking me first. I prefer to make them store and bitch about my PCs forever on AIM instead.
