This is a more up to date list. It's not completely current, a few minor things have been changed since, but nothing particularly important. I believe the trap skill has been removed and I'm told they changed starting skill level for barrier.
List for Assassin
contact (st=20, max=80, go on=70)
barrier (st=5, max=80, go on=70)
. expel (st=5, max=80, go on=70)
sneak (st=5, max=95, go on=85)
. listen (st=5, max=80, go on=70)
. climb (st=15, max=50, go on=40)
hide (st=5, max=90, go on=80)
. hunt (st=5, max=50, go on=40)
. . scan (st=5, max=80, go on=70)
. . . blind fighting (st=5, max=80, go on=70)
backstab (st=5, max=90, go on=80)
. sap (st=5, max=80, go on=70)
dual wield (st=15, max=70, go on=60)
. parry (st=10, max=40, go on=30)
throw (st=5, max=80, go on=70)
poisoning (st=5, max=85, go on=75)
. brew (st=10, max=90, go on=80)
. . trap (st=5, max=90, go on=80)
piercing weapons (st=10, max=70, go on=60)
. knife making (st=10, max=50, go on=40)
bludgeoning weapons (st=10, max=70, go on=60)
shield use (st=5, max=25, go on=15)
forage (st=10, max=50, go on=40)
cooking (st=5, max=60, go on=50)
sleight of hand (st=10, max=70, go on=60)
. pick (st=15, max=60, go on=50)
. . pick making (st=10, max=40, go on=30)
analyze (st=10, max=90, go on=80)
two handed (st=15, max=70, go on=60)
Pickpocket sap caps at 50 and is generally not really worth bothering with, don't roll a pickpocket if combat is in any way a focus of your character concept. They can become somewhat decent fighters but should never be used if you deliberately intend to try to fight people.
You'll find pretty quickly that your plans of mugging people by knocking them out is largely futile. If you don't already know how to twink up an assassin, it'll take you a very long time to get there, and the odds of dying along the way are depressingly close to 100%. But, good luck!

julio sorry that the lists were incorrect. i will update the code megathread with @oldtwink's contribution. also people here are kind of harsh but it's a tough love because they don't want to see someone put in the effort for a character only to get crushed by the unbalanced systems in place. if you want to do it then go for it but the odds are pretty stacked.

I liked julio's guide. In a game as opaque as Armageddon, everyone is going to get some specifics wrong. A lot of it is the spirit and mentality of it, and he pretty much nailed the essence of the mugging character. Which is a char that ideally has 2-3 days invested in it, not 20-30.
Given that it only takes a single errant 'look' to ruin your career as a mugger, worrying about who branches what is somewhat besides the point. It would be hilarious though, if pickpockets really did get the highest sap in the game. I think they should!
I will say from personal experience though, that a two-handed maul seemed to be a much better sap, than the 'sap'.

From my experience you want a long baobab staff (order from Salarr) because it can pass as a walking stick ICly and I suspect it gets a bonus to parry, which is always nice.

I think I know how to twink up an assassin. Which NPCs to practice on, etc... The hardest skill to have RP reasoning to justify twinking: backstab. According to the list you don't get sap until backstab is 80. Backstab indicates you are trying to MURDER NPCs and PCs so it really is a bitch to practice without eventually dying. That is the hardest aspect of playing assassin in my opinion. Twinking backsab. Sap however.... Edited to remove information that the staff may use to identify me and/or gimp. Because Nyr is a dick like that.

One way.... I could imagine then to make a proper Sapping PC, quickly and easily, in 3-4 days is to make an assassin thug as it would unlock the sap skill from the beginning. Then pick your favorite unaffiliated rinthi NPC and sap them once a day. EARLY in the morning when there are like 2 players logged on, wait until night and sap an NPC southside once a day. That is log on once for 15 minutes in the morning and get in a fail. Then log on once 15 minutes in the evening and get a fail. That's two fails a day. Practice throw on the NPC first to soften up their stun to help shorten the fight that will happen after you fail. Also... shorten the risk behind getting caught. Or you could just play in the Rinth and sap whoever, whenever you feel like. It's actually a lot of fun, and hardly even feels like grinding. What's more, no one questions why you only target NPCs as they're the only ones you can find to target anyways.

Children, drunks, and anyone wearing a bandanna of any sort are usually off limits. Look for the one or two NPCs that are truly unaffiliated. Those you can get away with... usually. All elves. (which are great because they are hard to land backstab/sap) Twitchy is a good target if you can tank him. This is a situation where being part of the human rinthi clan can make things easier for you.

Wow! That response was actually really funny. Extremely embarassing if you missed jcarter's response. HAHAHA jkarr Why are you so angry? I didn't edit my quote from the mega thread to save face. That's ridiculous. I simply emboldened certain things to bring them to the reader's attention. If you were to read more in this post you would have caught this: julio sorry that the lists were incorrect. I will update the code megathread with @oldtwink's contribution. No need to be a dick dude. It's a game. It's kind of funny to be told to "go home and work on your english" from someone who didn't use a single scrap of punctuation or capitalization. You must be trolling.

julio u wanna talk about anger then step off before u come bitching at me like a harpy when i tried to back u up in the rest of that post i made and all u focused on was where i called u out for the skills list with that outta the way then were good now claws retracted ill go home and work on my reading comprehension when it comes to threads im not to big to suck it up when i fuck it up if u check the original list it has sap at 80 so i dunno where he could have messed up the sap max, maybe that was fixed too, also on jcs boards so anyways mugging is viable if challenging its all about how u do it being careful and making sure u rp it
