julio u wanna talk about anger then step off before u come bitching at me like a harpy when i tried to back u up in the rest of that post i made and all u focused on was where i called u out for the skills list with that outta the way then were good now claws retracted ill go home and work on my reading comprehension when it comes to threads im not to big to suck it up when i fuck it up if u check the original list it has sap at 80 so i dunno where he could have messed up the sap max, maybe that was fixed too, also on jcs boards so anyways mugging is viable if challenging its all about how u do it being careful and making sure u rp it It's okay. Thanks for baking me up. And sorry for wording my response to let you think I was bitching at you. I wasn't. That was my grammatical faux pas. Next time don't be a total dick. That was mean and I cried for like half an hour. I'm a really big man in real life so don't mess. I'm out of tissues now so with that, I'll check out the boards later with hopefully some sweet carebear responses out of you jkarr.

OKAY, did some experimenting... ai strength on human and bashing heads in with a hammer will work until you come across anyone with any training ever. Which is good to know...
Therefore ranger thief, while a nice rinthi option, is not a good mugger option. The only trick would be figuring out how to branch parry from the rinth.
Assassin thug would make the best kind of mugger in every category I mentioned in my guide. The stealth, plus sap, plus throw, easy to skill up. Trouble is getting lucky with the stats. That's why it would NOT be worth it having a extended sub guild unless you went dwarf. Even then without sap from the start you have to go through the bitch process of skilling up backstab.
The biggest drawback is lack of guard skill. I'm not convinced guard stops speed walkers consistently unless mastered.

The world could use more muggers. The world could also use less whiny tattle-tale mugger victims I'm of the opinion it's not the tattle tales that are the problem. In a game with the tag line 'murder corruption betrayal' FAR too many players of soldiers and templars give a shit about law protecting lowly citizens. It should be that even fairly well respected PCs (merchant houses, prominent indies) should have to bribe soldiers to be concerned with theft/violence if it didn't happen right under their noses (which would be a personal jilt to the soldier's authority). Anyone below this social level should fear a beating and second mugging for having the nerve. I have always found it RIDICULOUS that templars would tolerate some cockroach whining about how they lost their shit to some other cockroach and expecting them to do something about it. Approaching a templar in Allanak with something so trivial should result in having your entrails nailed to the wall. Murder and corruption are supposed to be CORE VALUES of this game, but staff still tolerate soldiers playing honorable police cops there to protect people rather than subjugate them.

The biggest drawback is lack of guard skill. I'm not convinced guard stops speed walkers consistently unless mastered. Guard literally always stops people who are merely walking, even if you don't have the skill. There's only a chance to get past guard if you sneak or run. Most people won't really think to type 'run' before trying to move past until you've already had time to attack. You'll also never get the guard skill trained up going solo in the 'rinth, for obvious reasons, and a low guard skill is useless at stopping anything. What will happen to a mugger is this: the first time you attack someone who's a decent fighter, and you don't manage to knock him out right away, you die. Also you'll probably have a hard time finding a place where anyone goes but doesn't have soldiers stationed or patrolling past. Allanak pretty much has a soldier every two or three rooms and/or patrolling ones coming through regularly. Openly attacking people in city streets is almost unheard-of because it's nearly impossible to get away with, especially if it's your first time trying to play a charactger of that nature. You'd probably have an easier time raiding grebbers outside the city. Attacking people in lawful areas is just about the most attention-gathering thing you can do in Armageddon and you will have the whole city on your ass after the first time. It's the kind of thing staff will interfere with, too. Expect to have soldiers and templars animated. I think this is somewhat justified, too, because if muggings in lawful areas were to start being a regular occurrence, it's a huge deterrent to being out in public and moving around the city. This would be pretty horrible for the game. People don't really want everyone to start hiding in their apartments and clanhalls, and rightly so.

I've seen plenty of squeezing by people with low guard skills at a walk speed, unless those many people have been typing run or sneak (and my PC wouldn't've seen the latter, I'm pretty sure, and would have noticed the former). Unless, does guard work differently for the 'enter/leave' commands than cardinal directions?

Since always. I don't know about enter/leave, but you cannot walk past a guarded exit except perhaps if you're invisible or flying. It literally says 'you must be running or sneaking to pass.' And if the person hasn't got the guard skill, you'll easily pass by running, but you do have to take the time to type it. Usually, the brief confusion and inattention that comes from being stopped by a hidden guard is enough to get attacked.

Also people in your clan get to walk past you if you're guarding. That may be what you've seen.
Soandso nods to soandso as they step past.
Soandso walks north.

No, I know what it looks like when a clan member walks past. I've seen low(/no?) guard scores fail to block non-clan PCs who I'm pretty sure weren't running or sneaking. I know I have seen this on an 'enter x' type building like a tent. Which, I guess doesn't really matter that much for this topic since what kind of mugger is going to be running for a guarded building/tent?
