Hi. On the shadow board I’m a short time reader, first time poster. My main handle on the GDB, going back to the old GDB, was Red Ranger. I’m not 100% sure, but I probably used the handle RedRanger on ISCA, too.
You’re most likely to know three of my PCs: Sargax Kurac, who became the Head of Kurac while I was playing him (actually the title was ‘Magnate’); Dragean Tenneshi, who was cheekily titled ‘Chosen Lord Erector;’ or my final PC the Lady Templar Htaniya Fale.
Despite the long time I played Armageddon, I never spent any time on the staff. Despite this, I enjoyed world building. As examples, the Kuraci ‘-da’ and ‘-di’ naming convention was my creation and more recently I coined and popularized the term ‘true-inked’ in Tuluk (though of course any vestiges of that little tradition will be lost starting on April 27, 2015). I was the one that had Kuraci Special Ops change their name to the Kuraci Archives, for a level of plausible deniability. I also wrote the docs for the Kuraci Archives (if they were ever even in use after my last stint in Kurac around 2008 or so). I wrote the disease docs, or at least the cool diseases like Slough Skin and Maar Pox and Zagu-La. But my personal favorite contribution is still the Kuraci wagon fleet docs, with the wagon names including the trusty Zurmaha, the workhorse Fedidan, and the mighty Gar Zelanar (RIP)… But I’ll wrap up my boasting and reminiscing there, before I get into the time I watched the c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate.
As you may guess from the above, my two Armageddon passions were playing politics and world building.
So. I no longer play Armageddon. I haven’t quit – I just don’t have any interest in playing, which is very unusual for me going back years. The last straw for my interest was when I was told OOC’ly that my templar Htaniya had to cancel her bounty on Tuluki tattoos because it might lead to killing Tuluki PCs. So I stored her in November 2014, as soon as I could without reneging on my RPT obligations (which were sizeable as it turned out), and I haven’t had a taste for playing since. I’m coming out now on the Shadow Board after having been encouraged by friends to share my story, after hearing about Kronibas’s coming out, and now finally after the recent announcement that Tuluk is being removed from the game. It turns out my fun little Tuluki bounties were unceremoniously squelched for exactly nothing, because Tuluk will soon have zero PCs.
And that’s emblematic of what Armageddon has become for me: squelched player efforts for zero gain. There are no true IC politics and there’s certainly no collaborative effort from the staff to world-build with the players. It’s sad to lose what feels like an old friend, but despite all my efforts to convince myself otherwise, there’s nothing that will turn the game around and this Tuluk debacle is further evidence of the sad decline.
I’ll share more as I have time, energy, and interest. I’d be happy to take any questions, if any of you gloriously malcontented assholes have any to ask!
