Statement of intent: I don't like the contemporary character discussing that goes on here and some other things. The merit I find in this forum rests in the fact that it is a place where many, based around negative interactions with a select few staff members, are able to share stories of perceived injustice. I am not a huge advocate for the publishing of IC info, though we have had spots before for that on irc where participants were staff members , with even Nessalin hanging around a lot. But even on IRC, the scope of information shared was minuscule as to what it seen here. My purpose for being here is to observe and share prejudices and poor behavior inflicted onto players by the staff, and I would even perhaps like to compile an organized record of the stories here and elsewhere, if but for the hope that it may spur change.
I would also also like to note that I grew up in a trailer in Mississippi, and not being able to afford stuff like many console or computer games, ArmageddonMUD became my favorite game not only for creativity's sake, but just out of necessity's sake. I also believe my saturation with language and critical thinking from the early age of fourteen until now has allowed me to win multiple awards in state wide writing competitions and eventually become an English teacher at a community college, who were so impressed with my small writing sample that they hired me in with only a bachelors degree). I'm trying to say that Armageddon's richness in language really has the capacity to shape young people from maybe less than ideal backgrounds and allow them a command of language they may not have ever had, otherwise.
ArmageddonMUD is an amazing game, and I think improvement can be worked toward, and already is being worked toward in part as a result of this forum.
Hey,
I've played Armageddon for a long time. I'm 29 and have played since I was 14, and I have earned the highest possible karma level, regardless of whether it has been taken away. I have never been a staff member. I have just always tried to be a good player who includes others.
Before Nyr came along, I never had any problems at all with the staff of ArmageddonMUD aside from mundane disagreements.
This all changed when Nyr took control of Kadius after Shalooonsh in 2007.
Within a month on taking control of Kadius, Nyr had used a high ranking Kadian NPC, while never interacting with Sharlo in game with an NPC, to speak to Elithan about the fate of Sharlo.
Edit: it is important to note that Sharlo had killed an insane employee (played by Lizzie, and if you read her posts on the GDB, you'd know why a guy might just want to peraine and stab her to death... Who says merchants aren't deadly? ps you know I live you, Lizzie) in the back room of the tooth, and I was fine with the death until informed of the intervention of the Kadian NPC, who ultimately sealed Elithan's decision.
How do I know this? The player of Elithan told me so, face to face, IRL.
So what happened is that Nyr knew he no longer wanted me to be a part of Kadius, that he had his own plans in mind for the clan, and used this NPC to basically give the thumbs up for killing Sharlo, without ever having any IC or OOC communication with me regarding the matter.
So, TL/DR, Nyr takes over a clan, uses a high level NPC to influence a templar from a clan he had just left, and does away with the clan leaders he didn't like.
Within a month of Sharlo's death, Kadius was a ghost of a clan, whereas previously it had been the main employer in the Northlands, catching up newbs and giving them purpose before they wandered off into the grasses to die.
What the destruction of House Kadius through these imm-facilitated means enabled was an influx into the northern noble houses, which they wished to see more populated. And then Tuluk turned into a dead zone for a long time, which was exacerbated by Qoriya. These staff tamperings are what caused the necessity of remodeling Tuluk and the trend to OOCly ask people to come to Tuluk.
People will play in Tuluk more now that Nyr is GONE.
He should be moved to a non administrative position on Armageddon MUD if allowed to remain at all, and we should replace him with an experienced, kind, and creative leader who possesses a modicum of empathy.

This is not my only Nyr story, but it was what led me to think he was a shitty person and staff member.
In the end, this one poor interaction with the staff really made me defensive when it came to other staff members interacting me. That, along with Vanth removing karma after I blocked her for weirdly coming on to me, really made me very defensive when dealing with later staff members. Once you teach a person that one's role as a staff member not is only capable of but also sometimes guilty of abuse, it causes players to be very suspicious, which spits in the face of legitimate collaboration between staff and players alike.
More stories forthcoming.
