That threads an awesome example of both Nyr's hysterical defensiveness to entirely reasonable objections and people trying to suck staff cock for karma. Here's some things people reading this thread could do in Tuluk: - Play a bard and have a goal be applied arts, see if you can gain an interest/reputation with it
- Play a bard whose main goal is to teach on a variety of topics and engage the populace
- Play a Dasari or Dasari minion and develop elite, killer poisons
- Play a Winrothol or Winrothol minion with the goal of tracking down the deadliest beats to breed and tame
- Play a Kassigarh or Kassigarh minion, focused on making coin, through all sorts of helpful or devious schemes
- Play a Tenneshi or Tenneshi minion, analyze Allanaki foundations for weakpoints and sabotage
- Play a Tenneshi or Tenneshi minion, draft and plan defenses and fortifications for upcoming conflict
- Play an independent with a goal of learning how things work and inventing new and more successful ways to do things
- Play someone with the goal of starting an illegal crime group
- Play someone who wants to start a legal group of shadow artists, mentoring them and forming an elite task-force
- Play a southern refugee who desperately wants to earn citizenship
- Play a bynner who wants to follow the teachings of Sujaal and bring back northern byn respectability
- Play a filthy, crude bynner from the warrens, who is just a gritty, bad-ass, southern-killing mercenary
- Play an aide to the Faithful, getting involved in making war a reality, be it by coordinating supply lines or planning sabotage
- Play an aide to a Chosen, with a self-serving attitude, focused on the benefiting the House, regardless of what happens to the city
- Play an aide to a Chosen, focused on making their House the best through making Tuluk better
- Play a partisan with a goal of funding a merchant agency
- Play an independent or partisan who wants a niche role (hair dresser, whore, clay digger, masseuse, interior designer, etc)
- Play someone affected by recent events, who used to be employed by Negean, Uaptal, or Hlum and have them find their way from there (so many possibilities)
- Play a family role of elves who want to be the best shadow artists
- Play a family role of elves with clan support via Rusarla, bring the art of sticky fingers to the entertainment scene
- Play a tribal who wants to better their tribes relations with Tuluk, desiring to use the Merchant System to get a stall in the tribal market
There's a lot of options if you're creative. I've played PCs in Tuluk before, and I had a great time! It's funny how 2/3rds of that list would require extensive staff accomodation, and the rest of it is either 'play an aide' or typical bullshit. It basically boils down to 'play a family role of elves who want to be shadow artists'. Because I can tell you something...Hell would freeze over before any random player with good intentions is ever going to succeed in getting 1) Their own stall in the tribal market, 2) Discover a new poison, 3) Found a new crime family...or be given any meaningful support whatsoever in either planning defenses or coming up with sabotage plans. In ten years of my time with Armageddon, outside some very rare circumstances (Such as the Red Fangs getting started up again) which had everything to do with catching one of the few decent or newbie staffers in their prime...Anything along those lines, even something very simple like building an outpost out in the wastes, is basically met with either A) Fuck you, motherfucker, or B) Okay, we'll jerk you around for six months in the hopes that you die first and this request goes away, and if you don't die...Fuck you, you fucking motherfucker. In the grand scheme of things, there's only two roles available for most people: Suffer through playing some stupid ass role like a poor elf shadow artist, being someone's fuck-puppet for a while, until you manage to con your way into a higher karma role, where you can proceed to be an idiot. Or play an indie hunter and be a twink. Or you can be ye olde asshole random Winrothol guard or city trooper, and make the Ferguson PD look like the NAACP.

As an indie hunter twink, what options do you really have?

Well remember this thread's meant for stuff from the gdb that isnt the usual retarded bullshit. Kind of a proof-of-concept we dont just shit all over everything the same way Nyr's Greatest Hits is a collection of proof hes the worlds stupidest asshole to counter the claims he's not such a bad guy and we're all jst haters.

When people list this sort of shit as viable roles, you know there's no point trying to have any sort of discussion with them. They're the people who are willing to look like utter morons if that's what it takes to remain faithful to their stance. You cannot convince them of anything else, it's like arguing with religious people, immune to reason and prepared to say something completely ignorant in defense of their thing.

I'd like to let go of the pain and frustration.
One thing you can't escape in playing a MUD is that there's a period of glorious newness that can never be recaptured. And possibly this lasts longer on Armageddon than on most MUDs, because of karma and all that's hidden. But eventually it's over.
The frustrating thing is that Armageddon, unlike most if not all MUDs, offers a glimpse of a potential for much more. Yet it's very rarely realized now. The people there now seem to be satisfied with their social sandbox with a spicing of PKing tossed in, and with disparaging anyone who asks for something new or different. Here I mean the GDB as much as the staff.
I think that happens to every organization. Some call it "maturing", I call it people with a certain set of personality traits inevitably taking over as the originators leave or get forced out. You see it in companies all of the time. They even call it "corporate culture".
"Mature" corporations aren't known for their innovation. Maybe it's time to forgive and move on.

Itd also help to have a thread where people still on the gdb could see we're not just shitting all over everything they do over there. You know, where we might post positve things (from our perspective) we saw over there.

You cannot convince them of anything else, it's like arguing with religious people, immune to reason and prepared to say something completely ignorant in defense of their thing. The amount of Orweillian doublethink required to say something akin to that particular example and expect to be taken seriously is truly boggling. Just about every thread on the GDB is loaded with such crap. Meanwhile...That person suggesting you come play a poor city elf that discovers a new poison or sets off a dance craze, is probably playing a templar. Or else, that's what they're angling for.

Oh they know. They choose not to participate because they also know they'll be eviscerated by the pbase that's gathered here. I haven't really seen anyone make an argument against the complaints that exist here that lasts more than a few minutes before its taken apart bit by bit for what it is; clear cut propaganda to further the staffs agenda of keeping what few players do remain (or new ones) so that they can continue to control the game and have their fun over ours and fuck us along the way.
