So, as of today, sorcerer now only exist as a subguild. And you can only pursue one Path of magick. which is awesome because fuck you playerbase. The game's needed sorc subguilds for a while. it fits with the endlessly retconned docs on how sorcery works. but throwing out full sorcs is a terrible idea. it takes one more threat out of the hands of the players and leaves it in the track-laying hands of the staff. So if you meet a sorc who clearly demonstrates two spells not from the same path, you know there's no point in trying because youre dealing with a fucking imm who is getting their playwrite-on. but Ill be brief for now. this is a thread for discussing the consequences to the world resulting from limiting full sorcs to staff. And also for playability problems from only having one path of magich. This is a sister thread to Sorc hope which about player disappointment about losing sorc as an option. I don't really see how this is a fuck you to the playerbase. The vast majority of sorcs were staff alts anyways. Or they were sucking someone off on staff and didn't last long. There were exceptions. For one thing, a sorc could be surprisingly fucking tedious. Staff had the luxury of staying involved and dusting old chars off now and then. Very, very, very few non-staffers ever managed to do the sorc in the wilderness schtick without killing or freezering themselves. Those that made it to sorc-like powers via the Wyvern were in a slightly different (and more interesting) boat, but even that ended.

Seems to me, the staff is getting closer, and closer to annihilating the class system entirely, and going open skill selection. Its basically what you've got with the extended subguild process anyway.

The "fuck you" to the playerbase was the part about limitng them to one Path of Magick. since the original post, i've learned that the paths of magick are not only badly balanced, but several of the more powerful spells got thrown out. So now sorcs are normal people who have decided to be shittier magickers than elementalists as a hobby. A hobby that will get them easily killed. i guarantee you that when sorcs become unpopular, the staff will use that as an excuse to remove them from the game. while blaming it on player disinterest in "an aspect of the game that takes too much staff support".

youd think magic weirdos would need less staff support thanks to, yknow, them being magic
maybe if there were a place where players could give one another information and advice about sekret majiks freely and openly there wouldnt need to be so much staff support
