Well, basically you want to get a shovel and a bag and go to the stables and pretty much shovel shit. There are other places you can go to shovel shit and it's a very slow grind. But you screwed yourself a little by not getting a mount first. The thing is, there are always other people doing this too, so shit can be a little hard to come by. Since these changes to the Byn, not really sure if you can join up, plus you still need 300 coins to join. Might be best to join one of the clans and skill up and save your money for a year, just pray you don't end up in a lame one. But, just ride your year out and if you don't like it, leave. But your goal is to get out of the beginning grind and there are a lot of ways to do that.

Meh. Salting without a mount isn't so bad. The walk takes a little over 25 stamina on bad days. Just make itback to the gates in time and you're fine.

keep in mind forage uses stamina. Itd be pretty easy to screw yourself over when you're a n00b.

Between mount prices and stamima usage, I think the good choice is clear. Still, ymmv, and mounts are not a bad investment.

Yeah, that's a pretty good idea. Though the rooms outside the gates are quitsafe now, getting stuck still sucks. Don't drop under 30 stamina at late afternoon and you'll be fine.

what kinds of mounts are good to buy? are these beetles really worth the extra ~90 bux over the lizards?

is there a way to tell if your mount is getting tired? if not, do you have any advice on estimating how far they can go? do you need to give it food and water on long trips? do the beetles fight better than the lizards, or walk farther, or both? do you need to tell it to rest or sleep somehow when it gets tuckered out? how long do they need to rest up? do other cities sell different mount animals or the same ones?

assess (mount) for tired levels. no need to give food/water mount combat idk yes you need it to rest when it's tired, while you're mounted just rest should rest the animal. how long is dependent on temperature, so mid day will be worst, night will be best, being in a shaded place or indoors will make it faster different cities have different ones.

Just to add: also the shaded resting places are basically rest stops for your mounts, they're usually in the perfect place to rest a mount distance wise. So pretty much anybody out there is likely to stop at the one you're at, at any given moment. Be wary, it could be a harmless encounter or it could be a life-threatening one, you never know out there. The way things are right now, people tend to avoid each other out there and get away from each other as fast as possible. So you should be doubly wary if someone is trying to interact with you, especially if they're on foot. Getting robbed and killed is a part of the Arm experience early on, sometimes even later on, but something you should be aware could happen to you especially outside of cities.

Telling if mount is tired: Assess mount. How far they can go: Depends on terrain, but typically you'll be able to travel 50 or so rooms before needing rest, use of 'charge' and 'trample' skills will deplete their stamina more swiftly. Feeding and Watering: No need to feed it. Stable, and unstable the mount for an instant recharge. Comparison of Mounts:Beetles do more damage inix have more hp. Beetles are theoretically better for mounted combat (use of charge and trample). Inix have more weight capacity, tire more quickly than beetles, but move more quickly as well. Sleeping and Resting: Yes, for resting. Type rest beetle while hitched. How long it should Rest: Depends on terrain, and weather. Think of your own stamina, when and where do you recharge more quickly? They utilize stamina just like you do, the difference is the size of their pool. Mounts in Cities: Tuluk: Inix Luirs: Ox Allanak: Beetle Redstorm: Unsure Probably Beetle. All cities sell lesser versions of mounts erdlu, sunback and so on, but the premiers listed above are almost exclusive to those city states.

from looking in the "skill lists" thread, it looks like important skills branch off of "listen" for some classes. how do you boost "listen"? sit in bars and try to listen in on other chumps? sounds a little boring
ppl sometimes mention "falling in holes" - what precautions should i take to avoid these holes, or escape them if i do fall in them?

The best way to build up listen (IMO) is to not notice (to fail the listen check) when someone or something is sneaking around. Another, more popular way, is to listen to others talking at tables you're not at, in another room, or whispering.
