Also, Shabago ... you fucking owe me an apology. You chewed my ass out for distrusting staff when I voiced my suspicion that people were sharing OOC info. You said it was against the rules for staff to even TALK to other people on Discord and that all communication via Discord with players was to be reported to a producer. Somehow I think you have misread this. Was this exchange part of a request? Can you post it? Are you certain it's not "Any communication regarding in game stuff" or something similar? I don't think it was in a request, but I'll look later. I think it was Shabago talking to me. When I initially had my issue with Shalooonsh, I went to Discord to PM and see if we could straighten it out. I pinged him and he didn't respond. A short time later Shabago contacted me (in game, I'm pretty sure) and told me it was inappropriate to speak to staff on Discord and that Shalooonsh had complained I was 'stalking' him. That was where I was told about the Discord rules. I'll look and see if I have this in a request. |

I've only got a small snippet where Shabago mentions it when he 'resolved' a complaint:
"I feel as though you are very much struggling with the IC/OOC divide here. Further evidenced by your going to discord to OOCly harass Shalooonsh."
I don't recall now where the rest came from. It must have been in game. Is it possible I misconstrued it? Yeah, possibly.
Reference this from Shalooonsh though from about the same time. The context is I had received a PM on the forum from another Two Moons player who wanted me to mastercraft something for him. I asked via request tool if that was fine. The response from Shalooonsh:
"You've come a great way in being a great IG leader with Jaza, you've been keeping people rallied and in motion, and I'm glad I picked you for the role. However, when one becomes a great IG leader, this kind of thing will sometimes happen. People with a less stringent set of OOC morals may reach out to you for things like this, thinking it is harmless.
It isn't.
Every single step you take down the path of OOC communication is another length you've already gone, so that when something really delicate or important comes up, you are that much closer to just saying "screw it" and then blabbing it everywhere. I'm not saying that you are going to do this, I'm not even saying the person who solicited you may do this, I am however saying that this step was taken, and when it happens, it is up to you, the receiver, to stomp it out and try to help your fellow player avoid further movement in this direction. I really do not want you guys talking OOC'ly. Please stop this immediately."

Shakes, you are a great roleplayer and all but I read that log and I think you're missing the entire point there, also Malifaxis has been kicked HARD in the dick before for OOC communication by Nergal and friends. I'm not saying they're right by saying you can't use discord that way, far from it, they're wrong in that instance, but here we stand a real chance of being sidetracked, again. See, like, ok, we need character witnesses and all when it comes to infractions like these, but sometimes these threads become blame and shame circle jerks that may or may not be warrented, it would help if we focused on the issue at hand, rather than complaining about the time Nyr touched your sister impurely and didn't even have the goddamn courtesy to give a reach-around.

The idea of a staffer talking to a player in discord and the idea of someone asking you oocly to perform an IC thing. They dont really come close together. From the looks of it, Loonsh complimented you to the best of his ability, but asked you to limit OOC/IC mix. He didnt even accuse you of ooc/ic breach yourself. He just asked not to be tempted into it when others approach you. This was definitely not a knock on you, man. Or I'm misreading this. It might be a snippet out of a greater conversation. I dont know. |

I'm not aware of a rule against talking to people on discord. I would say everyone except Nessalin does this. Although some staff specifically request not to talk about the game, but if you want to discuss Trump, you are more then welcome.
I don't know what was it that was said between Shakes and Loonsh to make his consider the conversation harassment. My only guess was it he just didn't want to deal with any of it.
Sometimes conversations come to a point when a dungeon Master makes a ruling and debating it is no longer viable, or welcome. Whether fair, or unfair. That's when requests are preferrable. PMs are a private conversation between you and one singular staffer. And if staffer feels uncertain and not confident in the situation, it's a bit of pressure.
Requests is a person talking to the entirety of staff. The person might be waiting for his response, while beneath the request, there is a 2 page long thread of staffers back and forthing what that players official response should be.
So I can imagine if Loonsh just wanted an extra wall of impartiality placed between you and himself. Sometimes it's easier. But this is guesswork. I don't actually know what happened.
