I am also curious to see a more thorough take on how Delerak sees the current state of the game, especially as someone who (admittedly, probably unfairly) roasted him over his previously expressed opinions on it.
For anyone new around here who's curious about the thread necro and the fate of the code dump, I still have it. I'm on Discord, meh#0490. Ask and ye shall receive. Just keep in mind that it is kind of old by now.

I too am interested in Deleraks review. I know he is adult and emotionally stable enough to give an objective observations. For better 'and' for worse.
Him and ... Faroukel, or however you spell his name.

That's awesome. Loved reading about the stories of old... good memories are all we have.
Cheers and thanks for sharing.

Might have also been bad blood between Clegane and Adhira. I mean he literally just said it was nessalin. You are correct, sir. Just adding additional information (not speculation, there -is- some emnity there).

Most of my Staff baggage pre-dates her arrival in the game and I was already more or less out the door by the time she was promoted to Staff herself. Never had a single conflict or argument with her over anything regarding the game. I've had plenty of friends (and a few enemies) on Staff over the years. Not a one of them has ever informed me of bad blood between Adhira and myself. Not sure what you've heard, really, in terms of gossip that pre-dates the Obama administration. But I've never had an ounce of enmity towards the woman. And any hate she has towards me, if any exists at all, has never found its way into any of her interactions with me. Sorry.

She even rooted for jcarter when he was trying to become byn sargeant

I dunno. Never had any trouble with Vanth either. I recall playing with both of them before they got Staffed, but I don't think I ever interacted with either of them after they got promoted to Staff. Certainly not with any enmity. Like I said, I was pretty much already done with the mud and out the door before either of them were anything more than brand new Storytellers. I'm getting a little old these days and I drink a lot of fucking bourbon, so my old man memory might be sketchy. But I only really ever had friction with three staff members: Sanvean (resolved more or less a year or two after it started), Bhag (it was really more of a friendly competition anyway), and Nessalin. Who hates my guts, always has, and apparently always will. Anything beyond that is either baseless rumor or me totally forgetting entire years of my life. Either is possible, I suppose. But my active playtime on the game was from 1995 to 2005. And I didn't really play seriously after about 2003.

As the man who convinced me to buy game of thrones at dragoncon 2001, I have to ask what did you think of HBO's rendition?

As the man who convinced me to buy game of thrones at dragoncon 2001, I have to ask what did you think of HBO's rendition? Unwatchable shite. Irritating at even its peak moments and utterly deplorable once the hack tv fan fiction writers had to shoulder the lion's share of the work because the fat old fucker stopped writing altogether. I absolutely loathed it. Especially the patent absurdity of anything resembling tactical acumen during the last half. I finally stopped watching altogether with two seasons remaining. I'll probably eat broken glass coated in rotting leper feces before I cue it up again. TBH, I can't even read the books anymore. I dug them more than life itself at one time. Once I was introduced to Steven Erikson, however, I don't think I ever opened one again.

Hah, if by 'around', you mean still above ground instead of below it, yeah...I'm still kicking. But not even remotely 'around' in the MUD community. I doubt I've logged into this board or the GDB more than twice in a decade. Like I said, I only wound up here last night through sheer serendipity. And, for the record, I did try to special app a character after being asked to do so by a couple of Staff members in...hrmn...2011 or so? They pitched it to me over drinks (one of them was a ST at the time for the House I was apping for) and we worked up a neat-as-fuck concept, for which I submitted about 10 pages of background material and had a few old-timers onboard ready to roll with me (Zagren, Cerebus and a few others). Ness shitcanned it personally and threatened to boot out any staffers who approved me for a special app involving a noble or merchant house. I even countered by offering to make him an illegitimate with no real power in the House and was told to go fuck myself. He apparently put a note on my account that ANY special apps or House characters I applied for needed to be run through him directly or they'd be force-stored and the Imm who approved them would be abused. In actuality, my invalid Borsail, Vedelarin, was written under similar threats back in 2002. Cerebus had asked me to come play a noble for him since Borsail was flagging. Ness shitcanned it and said that I was 'toxic' for the playerbase. That interacting with other players in an IC authority position was forbidden because I didn't understand the game world and would ruin newbies who tried to follow me. I wanted to play the character, so I countered and pitched to Cer that I'd play a cripple with demophobia who never even left the estate. He was worried I'd take over the City as a mindbender, so I offered to app Ved as a basic merchant instead, which I did. About 6 months later, Ness booted Cerebus out as Borsail ST specifically because we'd 'broken the agreement' and I had my fingers in too much shit, despite never even leaving my bedroom. he asserted that I had to be doing it all with a network of OOC information. Truth be told, I still have zero clue why Mark has had a hard-on for me since about 1998. Even Sanvean and I buried the hatchet years ago after the Gypsy thing. But Ness actively worked to keep me from playing the game for almost 2 decades. He still does. I think it had something to do with when I played a Reynolte noble back in 1997. Anyway, he's an assfuck and he worked very hard to single-handedly kill my interest in the game. I'd say he more or less succeeded. tl;dr Thanks for the kind thought, but I ain't comin back. Most people who we shit on around here were simply bad staffers. The exception is Nessalin, who I have always believed is a bad person, generally. There are any number of reasons why Nessalin has had a grudge towards you. Most likely, it was because people liked you, or you made him feel inferior in some way. Essentially, Nessalin viewed Armageddon as his own ant farm, and was hugely upset by anyone that seemed to exercise influence within it that didn't somehow meet his byzantine standards of being acceptable. That usually required being nice to him at Armageddon Con (i.e Nyr). The best testimonial is that even years later, people still remember your characters with fondness. No one remembers Nessalin with fondness.

Once I was introduced to Steven Erikson, however, I don't think I ever opened one again. My sentiments as well. I stopped reading the books after Feast for Crows. His quality seemed to go down immensely after the first 3 books which I voraciously read in about 3 months after the first book way back then. I always remember you telling me your emotes are styled after GRRM's writing style or something. Got a kick out of that so I read the books but my emotes never got better!
