I once mastercrafted a metal item: A silver pen. Like, you know, to write with. Try to keep your erections in check guys. Okay, erection safely in check... Another one was the bronze longsword, Magekiller. *The sound of 2005 me's pants ripping as a massive erection tears through them* When the gypsy village of Tyn Dashra was still around, well, one of the favorite foods of the gypsies was a stew called “jegash.” One of the things about jegash is that it was served from a huge iron pot that was rumored to be magickal. So, as a gypsy, you would eat from a magickal piece of metal cookware on the regular. Of course they did. This is why everyone was happy when they got a volcano dropped on them.

I had Magekiller for a month or so with my d-elf Indra. Killed a few magickers with it up north before turning it over to the templars for reasons.

And who can forget Fatty Tor, after getting his face fucking melted, wearing a silver half mask, phantom of the opera style? I never realized it was silver. I always assumed it was "silver", like the silver scorpion goblets, which looked like the real thing but were actually laminated wood. That character had a really colorful life, though. He took control of a half-demon pleasure slave from Nenyuk, which was an active clan at the time that handled apartment and house rentals. Yes, you could rent houses and yes, if you had the influence and the money, you could get more than two keys for your procession of mates, friends, friends mates and everyone who stole the key, since they didn't automagically reset every time someone else took over the property, meaning clever thieves could (and did) have key rings with keys to almost every player rental property in the game. He had the last armed noble house stand-off in the games history, in the Traders, with Oash I think. It was like battle lines forming up, weapons out. A very cool scene. Even the frilly Aides had their daggers out, ready to rumble. At one point, he was tasked with disciplining some bratty noble girl who was running around embarrassing her house, like he had some kind of golden pimp hand. There was a literal coalition of nobles and merchants who wanted to kill him out of jealousy, because he would sit around in taverns, with his grotesque sword, ruined face and disgusting physique, entertaining all the noblewomen, aides and more or less every well-to-do with a vagina. The flirting alone was absurd and sometimes occupied two, even three tables. He was actually banging a Borsail nobleman, if I remember right. It might have been his Borsail noble that was banging the Oashi lord, though. Basically, he banged a lot of noblemen, is what I'm getting at. He was involved in some sorcery, but I'm not too sure to what extent. Nothing compared to the notable Oashi at the time, though. There's a lot more on top of that, which made life all but impossible for the Warlords/ladies that followed in his footsteps, because no one could quite live up to his legend. There was a Warlady who did really well, after she teamed up with a Templar played by Ysania... until the both of them were outplayed by the former Warlords new Borsail noble. The Templar was killed by those politics and her corporal (same one who wore the silver earrings/ring) disappeared without a trace. The Warlady faded and I don't remember how she died, or if she died. He was such an amazing Warlord and balanced the politics and clan agenda so perfectly, they had to retire the role. No one else could sell it. The player, Clegane if I recall correctly, was one of the better and more controversial players the game had and as far as I know, left the game over a dispute with the staff at the time. I preferred his Kadian, though. It takes some guts to hinge your murder plot on the whims of a mekillot.

Yeah, the code is out there now. Not sure why anyone would be so petty as to deceptively pull some principled asshattery over it. Anyone trying to make another RPI would be better off coding from the ground up, which, some are already doing. Far as I know there's only one guy looking to resurrect the magick that was once (or maybe never was) Armageddon. It should be interesting, but if Arm can't stand on its own merits alone then they need to either make some serious adjustments or throw in the towel. Currently, it seems like they're trying, very hard, to do the former, I find the effort commendable, but I am not well-informed enough to say how well it is going (my personal experience seems to indicate things are improving). Some recent complaints as to staff's decisions on player punishments are something I cannot comment on. If that changes, I will comment.
EDIT: I mean, it's hard NOT to see improvement after Nergal's "Rat on your buddies for karma, or maybe just to play the game" project seems to have gone by the wayside. Get a grip, people talk about the things they like doing. Maybe sometimes things are revealed that shouldn't be, but it's like the DEA swooping in because a minor smoked a cigarette sometimes, instead of focusing on the real abusers.

legendary’s last post is one of the reasons I still read this board:
A genuinely thoughtful post stretching over a decade into the past to something/someone that touched me in a non-miner sorta way.
Sorry, you don’t read shit like that on the GDB, but, if you did, it wouldn’t be nearly as well-written.
I think I’m kinda aroused, actually.

There should be a whole thread about Clegane's characters. I followed him around like a lost puppy whenever I found out he was playing somewhere I immediately made a PC to try and join his clan. A few of my memories as follows:
-Warlord tor obviously. I made a tor character and joined and then subsequently got wrecked by Sandman because I attacked him in the desert. I was such a loser. -Kuraci spice addict. He had a kuraci for a little while if I remember, this is the one instance I never made a PC to play with him because I couldn't stand Kurac as a clan back then. -Borsail cripple. He had a borsail cripple noble that literally never left his estate. I played his dwarven slave and it was such a blast. I basically delivered his letters to other nobles and shit all over the city. I played it very downtrodden and broken, I bought a powdered pig and wore it, basically a dwarf with the focus to serve and die in borsail and wanted to be a human his whole life. really fond memories of playing this character and I think he was force retired by the staff because of the slave thing back then, I'm not 100% sure but I think I was one of the last sponsored slave roles. -Lius his kadian. I saw him but actually never joined Kadius kind of the same with Kurac I hated the clan back then and the yuppie shit it represented.

A detailed analysis of how he came to be blacklisted because of foiling Sanvean’s plot to destroy Allanak and empower the gypsies would be interesting, too. AFAIK, he was allowed to play some nobles/leadership characters after that but never had much karma at all restored, despite it being ancient history.

What era is all that? 2006? More recent?

If you’re asking about the gypsy/Allanak thing, shakes, that was well before I started playing in 1999.

I heard the story from clegane in person at dcon '01 or '02. Basically he had a chance to foil a plot with a maxxed assassin he was playing. He backstabbed one of 4 maxxed sorcerers which were "required" to destroy allanak. By killing the one they couldn't connect their powers or something and bring the city to ruin. Granted im going off my shitty memory but it was something along those lines, him backstabbing and insta-killing a maxxed gypsy sorcerer that was needed to finish the spell that would destroy the city.

And he was then hailed as a hero, given parades, and a high place beside the God-king?
Or force-stored for spoiling a plot?

The primary point of contention is that one gypsy killed another gypsy. Period.
Sanvean, who wrote most of the gypsy docs, said this went completely against gypsy docs.
Clegane’s gypsy, though, as part of the Zeina group, the gypsy faction whose job is to infiltrate various factions of the outside world as deeply-covert spies, claimed that years and years within the labyrinth working for the Guild had chipped away at the bloodline closeness that the Muark have.
IMHO, Clegane’s point isn’t that unreasonable... and I’ve played a few Zeina gypsies.
