Best Vivaduan: Sargax
Setting aside one ultrasecret until I get approval to mention it, there's a lot to say about the character. It was a very well-kept secret that Sargax was an ungemmed Viv who reached half-elemental status during his lifetime. I forget if he went full-elemental when his player retired him or if he's still sloshing around (half-elementals stop aging). Sargax worked his way through the ranks of Kurac from the bottom to Magnate despite never being a staffer or a sponsored role.
Some of you are probably unfamiliar with what the Magnate role is.
IIRC, Kurac ICly is divided into "the family" and "the GMH" in terms of power. Being in the family isn't an automatic "in" for the business. As such the most powerful people in the clan were the male and female heads of the family and the head of the business: the Magnate. In terms of clan-importance, Sargax made Senior Noble. Some of you may be thinking, "So what? A few people have made senior noble." That's true, but this is noteworthy because I think it's the only time when the player of the senior noble was told, "Good job, enjoy the power, and keep up the good work." instead of being stored. I want to say he remained an active PC for another 2 years after that.
Sooooo... Sargax was effectively the most powerful PC relative to his clan to ever walk the face of Zalanthas that I know of. That's not even counting the thing I can't mention yet.

What's also important about sargax is that his accomplishments were completely self won. Staff love to praise pearl to this day, conveniently overlooking that she was spoonfed her every success. There's nothing exceptional that pearl did to earn her status or legacy besides living long, loving game of thrones, and loving to rp sex. Not there's anything wrong with any of these things but they shouldn't afford you your very own clan where everyone else (people who are genuinely busting their asses) will fail. I don't want to paint something bigger than it is or put RRR up on a pedestal here but it needs to be repeated that sargax rose from the most bottom rank to the highest, it didnt happen overnight, and in some cases his successes were against the wishes of many imms. I say this last part because where pearl was a complete immpet, the player of sargax was far, far from loved by the imms.

I liked Deke, even though he was not a 52864 played burglar. He probably lasted 30-40days, and was a good example of a bottom feeding dirtbag. I cant think of another burglar who I've seen survive this long, though.
Can anyone point to a psion they liked?

Albie. Really made the game fun and engaging for my newb ass when I started playing. Albie was like, badass. Timotheo is my current favorite noble. I'll second on Agron, he was a fucking blast to play with. There's other very well done characters out there who make the game fun, but I didn't know enough about most of them to comment.

Which guilds were Albie and Argon the best of?

Pretty sure Albie was a ranger, I'm not sure if Agron was warrior or ranger. Maybe not the best, but pretty damn good recent characters.
EDIT: Rumor has it Agron was a merchant, if I read this thread correctly, but having sparred with him and seen him in action in the field, I'm pretty sure he just had a craftng subguild.

I'm pretty sure Albie was a ranger. I think he might have been in a GMH before-hand, but I know he had about a 20 year career in the Byn, and was absolutely awesome to play with. Unlike a lot of HGs, I don't think he ever got bored of being perpetually stupid. As far as Pearl, she got some recent discussion on the GDB. I'd be curious to hear what her deal was. Back in the day there was an infamous character called Pearl. It seemed at least half the player base hated her and there were quite a few attempts to kill her. All but 1 of them were unsuccessful. Her guild was merchant and her subguild was equally meaningless. She didn't survive because of a list of coded skills, she survived through role playing. She arranged her enemies' deaths and was possibly one of the most powerful PCs in Allanak at certain times. And she was a merchant (also the player's first character). Pearl got resurrected once because of a grief character created specifically to kill her using abusive code tactics. It was also a different era of the game. People hate on her because... she was successful, manipulative, and wasn't afraid to resort to down and dirty tactics and politics. She'd win, and people hate losing. The playerbase suffers from epeen envy and an unwillingness to be the support character in someone else's story. As a side note...I played a number of PC's with Pearl. She got hated on because she was manipulative and 'won' against a lot of people who were trying to get in her way, and as she won more and more, the players got more and more set on standing in her way, and as she kept winning...well...the frustration was real. I think I was always in some way aligned with her though, and she was pretty stellar, and always fun to plot with. *thumbs up*

As far as Pearl, she got some recent discussion on the GDB. I'd be curious to hear what her deal was. Pearl was the most notorious character of guild_dick_receptacle of her day. She received more than a little staff protection, her own noble house, and resurrection from one of the two times she was successfully killed her due entirely to favoritism. She was one of the earliest characters I know of to clue the playerbase in to the folly of letting the staff know in advance that you're going to whack a PC. When Kurac decided to put her down for good, they had a Nilazi drop a group of... what was it, six seasoned killers? ... on her while she was in her office. If memory serves me correctly they carried off her head to prevent another, "Oh, she wasnt dead for realsies lol" from the staff. Her "success" is on par with any successful business that excessively abuses government connections IRL to get ahead. There was nothing to be jealous about, only preferential treatment to hold in contempt.

blatant favoritism on an OOC level, but why did people hate pearl on an IC level?

blatant favoritism on an OOC level, but why did people hate pearl on an IC level? From what I've heard, it's because the blatant favoritism was obvious. Also, Pearl acted like a bitch to everyone, because she knew that she was getting staff support (and would later become staff, using that to further arbitrarily cement her creation of the Atrium into the game). It's not like she was making friends. There were all the reasons in the world to hate her ICly. I'd like to hear stories of good thieves/the best sneaks that don't involve backstab with poison silt worm daggers That's the thing about the best sneaks -- you never hear about them. I think Procrastination is the "best" sneaky sort I knew about, but I never really interacted with any other sneaky characters I'd call "good" other than his.

It's so funny how no one on the gdb can admit what was flawed about the pearl character. It should be obvious to anyone who played at the time. And that's even if you put aside the ridiculous resurrection she was afforded, which so many other people who had died the same way got denied. Her pkill was declared a bug. Yet no one else who had died to the same "bug" were ever given a rez and in fact nessalin even told one player who died from it that it's not a bug and to kindly fuck off. Delirium missed that point in her post. But yes, even if we put that point aside....
She was spoonfed her every success. While it's impressive that in her latter years she was basically a char who used zero skills and focused largely on social and political type rp, it needs to be understood that she did not win anything based on the merits of her hard work and effort. She was simply given everything, things which any other player at the time would have been refused, particularly if they had a different type of genitals than her. Sanvean was quick to empower her and went to unreasonable lengths to protect her. I had a char once speaking ill of her to another guy in the gaj and an imm suddenly sent to me: "Can you please explain where this aggression your character has for Pearl is coming from?" I was literally interrupted from playing the game to be asked why my char expressed a strong disliking for her in a world based on murder, corruption, and betrayal.
Before anyone here or on the gdb praises pearl for her successes, they need to first ask themselves if any other player (particularly a male one at the time) could have accomplished the same things. I'm not even badmouthing the player or the character herself, simply the ridiculous level of pampering she received. Her death was even given a world echo instructing everyone to ignore her death, where anyone else given a rez would be dead and stay dead until all the necessary red tape is processed.

Pearl also received a custom npc guard while she was still a house aide. The sullen eyed dwarf I think?
