Without the checks and balances in place to assure the quality of roleplay in the game it's just another hack-and-slash no matter what you do. How dare you question my roleplay integrity on this game. I will have you know that Tom Murderboner is a profound and fully fleshed out character.

Honestly you are right. It is a very different game. It has all of the elements that the current staff have removed like kanks, tuluk and full sorcerers. It's the real deal, not some watered down bullshit inspired by Nyr. Ok.

Anyone else having trouble getting in? I get 'connected' message but nothing beyond that.

Might've crashed or something. I was messing around on there earlier and it just went *poof*, my character's probably dead.
Ahhh, the days when a high agi character could fight and wasn't a sparring dummy.

Not sure what's causing it.. it appears to be a loop of some kind or perhaps it's an issue with the sockets connector. In either regard, it's back up. I wonder if you're getting MUD DDoS'd?

I really, really, really, want to take a look under the hood at the code for that game, is there any chance of you dropping the source somewhere, or are you keeping it all private? I'm aware that a lot of stuff has likely changed in the last 16 years, but I'd still like to take a peek. I'm also excited to give it a try.

It's funny, we poke fun at Arm's code. But looking at the old game definitely gave me a new respect for the game's code as it is today. No, not the lunar cycles affecting the tide shit, the everyday movement and surprisingly combat. I thought I remembered the game being much smoother back in the day, when its the other way around. Or maybe it's because its this haxxored version...not really sure. But I can definitely see that the code isn't that bad. I remember the 1992 version being bad, but the 1999 version is still recognizable compared in the 2016 version...and many of the things are still where they were in 1999!

Nearly all of that modern code was added around 2004-2008, though. The amount of modernization that has taken place in the last 6-8 years is frankly minimal, considering the game has literally never been without a coder. Outside of a select few things such as visible skill levels and the changes to subguilds, the game is nearly identical to what it was around the Reborn period. Someone who quit then could return now and not have much new shit to learn. However, they're supposedly working on an overhaul to guilds, which is nice -- and severely overdue.

If memory serves me correctly, the 1999 version wouldn't have the stop command. Heaven help you if you typo your spamwalking. Ness didn't add NPC scheduled scripting until... 2003ish? So yeah, don't expect NPCs to seem to hav ethings to do at times of day.
On the flipside, there's a lot of content that just winked back into existence.

Yep, no stop command was one of the first things I noticed. Plus all commands/lag seem to queue with equal importance, including say and emote. I noticed this when Tom Murderboner was trying to shout some inspirational battlecries and puns while tangling with the wildlife.

A lot of the skills haven't been touched, I want to test out shit with the code. Any chance to automate skill boosts and show defense/offense skill? I want to see how good journeyman sap is, how good str/agi are with skills, etc etc etc....I don't want to train though I just want to test things out. Maybe there is a copy of the code I can run as an admin on a home computer?
