At the very least this is a good way for people to get to know crim-code. Can also check out what the 'rinth was like back then, heh.
I'm tempted to make a halfling. Honestly this is cool just for nostalgia.

I tried to do a sorc (because hey, there's no other way to ever try one again) but I couldn't figure out how to cast. Either the syntax/words have changed (and there was no 'you utter a meaningless incantation' business) or it was a lot harder to successfully cast as a noob 'gicker back then. And all the relevant helpfiles on magick seem to be missing  Also, I tried to gather from the land (not self) and it put me down to 1 hp someone who was around in 1999, haaalp |

It's tough being a sorcerer. Don't gather from the land unless the area is described as having a lot of plant life, otherwise it might just mess you up. Build up the relationship to the land, if you can and gather from self until you can branch fury. Before there was a gather skill, being a defiler was more for flavor than an effective method of practicing sorcery. After a few days spam casting on a Kuraci wagon platform in Luir's, I decided to run my sorcerer to somewhere with some water where I could |

Thanks, jenki! Turns out I did use the right syntax and spell words, and that they haven't changed like I suspected. I think it was just harder to cast as a noob 'gick back then or something, or it's just easier to fail as a sorcerer in general.

Eh, I doubt anyone would care.
So much has changed about the game and the code since this era that it isn't even really the same game anymore.
It's like playing Junior Monopoly and regular Monopoly. A few elements are similar/the same but it's far from the same game.
For nostalgia reasons it's a fun little experiment anyways.
Without the checks and balances in place to assure the quality of roleplay in the game it's just another hack-and-slash no matter what you do.
Still, I got a few chuckles out of reading this. |
