I explained to a friend of mine earlier that I'm pretty sure that the only reason Nessalin is sticking with Arm is because we're like his pet ants all living our little virtual lives and once in a while he likes to come and watch his virtual little pet ants doing what little virtual pet ants do best, either virtually fucking in a dark cave, killing hawk #1000103, enjoying a new toy that one of his smarter pet ant leader made for the pet ants, occasional wagging a virtual finger at two virtual pet ants who can't get along in the virtual pet ant world, etc..
No one expect anything out of Nessalin and no one can tell him what to do either, nor can anyone fire him even if all Staff members decided to do so, so Nessalin doesn't /have/ to do anything, so why give it up?
I honestly wouldn't mind being Nessalin, it seems pretty cool to have a little virtual pet world to watch once in a while when you're bored.

For some reason, I am reminded of George RR Martin's novella Sandkings. With Malken's image of Nessalin in mind, go read the synopsis of that shit. There is also an Outer Limits remake of the novella which is not nearly as good. But seriously, go read Sandkings and imagine Nessalin as the main guy... en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandkings_(novelette)

It's too bad all he writes is Game of Thrones stuff nowadays. I know some people love that series, but it really went downhill after the third book. (Which was like 15 years ago, lol. I think the 5th just came out?) That's a terrific sci-fi short story, though. And I liked Wild Cards. This might be the smartest thing written on this board about Ness, including anything I've contributed. Outstanding analogy.

There is also an Outer Limits remake of the novella which is not nearly as good. Beau Bridges! I believe that was the very first episode of The Outer Limits after it came back on Showtime. Good memories watching that as a kid.

The only thing that can fix Arms crumbling player base and stagnation is compromise. The staff ignore this forum completely. That's not compromise that's just plain dumb. If they were Blizzard sure they could do that. There's plenty of WoW forums but even Blizzard responds to its playerbase. As do all game companies..
Ah.. wait.. BUT Arm is free you say?.
Heck so is fucking League of Legends, so is a thousand other games. Go to Steam and look up free games. All those guys developed, maintain, and polish their games for FREE. It would sound pretty retarded if one of those developers or representatives went on the forums for their game and responded to criticism/feedback by saying "Oh but the games free, so yeah... go fuck yourself we aren't listening to your feedback" People would grill them so hard for something as asinine and arrogant as that. You want players to play at your game yet you refuse to hear out like over half your pbase?
Compromise could fix Arm but that would take staff stepping out of their powertrip at gdb.zalanthas.org and moseying their arrogant asses over here to register and post and respond to the mass exodus of players.
It won't happen.

They are obsessively well aware of the fact that what they delete on the GDB ends up on here and means they're still forced to address it. They wish it would go away, sure. But they're extremely well-informed of what is said here.

I know of two current Armageddon staff who do indeed read this forum.

Reading the forum is one thing. I'm well aware of that. I've posted that plenty of times myself. Registering and actually participating is another thing. Lurking staffers/players from the GDB will always happen. I want to see them swallow their pride and post and acknowledge the forum.

Wait - I thought I was Nyr? Doesn't that count for anything?

Wait - I thought I was Nyr? Doesn't that count for anything? It counts up to the number one. Guess which finger. Sirra, maybe, but out of my whole time playing, he has not messed with me... And in contrast with even Bhag, you don't hear about him just doing dumb shit... I think he stays under the radar on the front by not interfering with the game world. Like, I have never, ever heard of him cheating for people, hooking people up, rolling out in his alt to do insane shit, whatever.... He has been a ghost, no pun intended, on those fronts. I think staff members start really fucking up with they influence stuff in game based on their whims. Those are the ones we wind up talking about, anyway. Nessalin is notorious for being an asshole, but he has hardly ever been one to me. There's something to be said for being on staff for that long and not drawing heat for "meddling" in the affairs of mortals. I guess it is worth noting that hearing about the way ness treated someone else /did/ literally bring me to tears this morning, so maybe I am being too fair. He's not like Nyr. But he has been AWOL for a while, and he's perfectly happy with Nyr's leadership and management style. There was like seven years where he was literally below the radar, doing nothing but lurking. What did he add to the game in all his time? What new area of the game world, or interesting addition or innovation? Oh, they killed off kanks and messed up the northern road. They closed a bunch've clans. GREAT JOB, GUYS. i have to disagree with you here. But not for the reason you might think. Ive gotten the distinct impression over the years Ness has an extremely limited idea what is actually going on at the player level. I mentioned this somewhere else. when I was a staffer, what finally drove me to quit was the realization that everyone had a different idea of what was going on in the game. And that Ness' concept was so far removed from the reality of what was happening that the whole situation was untennable. i mean it was so contrary to years of ic activity by players, approval/direction by storytellers, and approval by admins. It crippld my will to keep fighting the high school culture, backbiting, favoritism, and cheating I was suddenly exposed to when i signed on. Because i spend most of my time lookng into the future and that turned the lights out. I don't think Ness is stupid, or playing god, or using Nyr as a whipping boy for his own policies. i think hes a lot more like one of those CEO-owners who burned out and have stopped payng attention to their company. They only get information third-hand from upper management who may develop agendas of their own. Or need to cover their asses. Or have decidd since the CEO is out to lunch, theyll run the company themselves and just keep telling him whatever they need to in order to get things approved or shot down. But this CEO-owner can't ever be removed because he has too much stock. And while everyone in managment is doing their own thing, the workers get schizophrenic direction from above and wind up being divided into feudal territories.
