I'll comment on this when i can say who I am. i've actually had very few problems with most of the staff. As i sometimes point out, it's usually the people at the Admin/Prod level i'm talking about and almost never the STs. And even then it's not all of the Admin/Prods. There are a coupl safe ones i could mention though, since they've been around too long to date when I did what. I have a hard time having an opinion on Nessalin; i virtually never interacted with him. So out of the other oldbies... Sanvean - Decent, actually. i may have taken issue with favoritism she gave to the Muarki, but she was all right. Very open to suggestions on merit even if they werent popular with the other staff. Morgenes - Always struck me as a good guy. Didnt interact much with him but he was always polite. Krrx - i know him mostly by his work and from his rather famous Kuraci mul. Good RPer, great pc leader, great maker of organizations - like he radiated order. Sanvean showed favoritism, but she wasn't malevolent, vindictive or hysterically obsessed with cutting other people down. She was just sort've nutty. Morgenes was fine, too. But started to drift into Adhira/Ness territory.

Taila is a bit of a lickspittle, though. I wouldn't go as far as saying that Tailia is a bit of a lickspittle. She came back with full positiveness and great ideas at a time where things were supposed to change for the better and then Nyr starts pulling shit like that days after being promoted and now she's trying to keep him from being publicly crucified while also (maybe secretly but definitely) understanding why the people on this board might want to crucify him on the spot. She's 'motherly', like I said. Trying to keep the peace on both sides, but let's face it, is there realistically any way to repair the shitstorm short of firing Nyr or completely disregarding us by now? It's gone a lot further than they ever (even I) expected it to go and I seriously doubt that pretending you'll think of a 'policy' to make sure that something like that never happens again will cut it this time. I will settle for Nyr getting spanked live on Skype and/or demoting him back to storyteller. I seriously doubt they'd outright fire him, like you say, he's doing the work of 10 Staff members by himself. It's a real shame, because if he wasn't such a prick he could easily become one of the greats with how much work he's willing to put forth on the game.

I would like to address Sanvean's favoritism, or what I saw of it, one of these days.
As far as contemporary players go, I only know of one or three others than myself who were invited to gypsy roles. EDIT: when sanvean was the one mainly over gypsies, anyway, which stopped in the early-mid 2000s. After sanvean left, I was never allowed to play a gypsy again, despite applying.
Personally, I was never given any crazy items or anything like that, and most of the claims of favoritism I guess come from before I played a gypsy. The "favoritism" that came from playing a gypsy in those times, to me, was mainly limited to having access to items and a heavily guarded area that other players didn't have.
The thing about this is, is that you typically were there by yourself, even though you had "who c." I spent a lot of time solo RP'ing on Tan Muark lands, and the height of the "favoritism" I was shown was passing out in a gypsy wine cellar and the imms dyeing my drunk character's hair from dark brown to, haha, yellow. They didn't give leet gear, they didn't even really give any special quests, like, at all, and the only major quest I did was one that I started myself and involved a wagon being stolen.
What gave me the ability to play a gypsy when others didn't? Well, after my first Byn warrior, I played a lot of non combat classes and really immersed myself in the actual roleplaying of the game. Skills meant almost absolutely nothing to me, and I did not even give a fuck about stats until an IMM, the player of Kroz, told me how important they were. I was so naive about coded prowess in the game, so I just wound up roleplaying a lot instead of trying to become "powerful."
I played a GMH merchant and played one WELL when merchants didn't even have crafting skills. Now even the imms are agreeing that GMH roles are hard? BULLSHIT, they are not. You have just made them unattractive to players by using higher level NPC to influence the fates of PCs based on OOC biases, among other things. These roles should be some of the most attractive roles in the game. They are definitely a role that is roleplay enabling more than nobles, Byn sergeants, Templars, or basically anything if you ask me, because they are unfettered by war and have innate reasons to explore, build, trade, and otherwise interact with basically almost every single type of character. One of my kadians was even contacted by the Plainsman. Why? To have DOORS built, lol.
I've already said why I don't want to make another GMH member again, ever... Because you can put close to 100 days on a PC, and within one month of a new imm taking over, they can shit all in your Cheerios because they think you will be a "problem" for them.
It's really fucked up.

Morg is probably the most qualified to run Arm. He was super cool at the APMs in Atlanta. Man that guy is just a jolly fucker that loves his Warhammer.

I will also say that people like Sanvean, Mekeda, whoever else might be considered perpetrators of "favoritism" (those are the only two staff members I can think of as showing me the "favoritism" that Nyr accused me of receiving), those staff members inspired incredible amounts of roleplay and, personally speaking, they inspired me to be a better writer, in general.
Mostly, they were encouraging, and when they saw something they didn't like, they didn't pissily write account notes and punish us without notifying us that we pissed them off.
Let me tell a story about how Savak dealt with play he didn't like in the Tan Muark. He noticed that me and another gypsy and the way we were sparring, so what does he do?
He enters the game with his avatar, shows us how to warm up and stretch before sparring, and encourages us to spar in a more roleplay-rich way by /entering the game and acting as a good example/.
Do you know what kind of effect that has on a player? Let me tell you.
Savak's intervention happened over ten years ago, and for nearly as week straight, as recently as last week, I roleplayed warming up and doing drills with my then-character, ever cognizant of the lesson Savak had taught me.
Lead by example. Do not be a smirking smug sideline critic, or your playerbase will let you know that you're fucking up.

Yep. Same thing used to happen in the Byn. Krrx would come animate Harak or some of the other top ranking NPCs. Man what the fuck happened?

So,
Nidhogg: 9-10 Tlaloc: 9-10 Sanvean: 9-10 Savak: 9-10 Daigon: 8-9 Mekeda: 9-10 Karianna: 10 Halasterd: 8 Bhag: high 6 Morgenes: 10 Naephet: 10 Looonsh: 10 Talia: seems legit. Rathustra: 9 Vendyra: 10 Vanth: 2 Nyr: 3 for attitude and bias, + a yet to be determined amount for how the clan thing will pan out, but you have to do a lot better than editing objects to death before you're going to get good bites on what COULD be the single greatest thing to happen to the game in a long time. Too scared of bias to even think much about it though. Nessalin: a strong 7 for being there for so long, but not high points for not helping with cutting down on Nyr's bad attitude... You a mean, hard mahhh fucker ness. Keep that punk in check, not us. Tiernan: 10, because of those vonnegut quotes his posted that one time. Nechomachus: 8, from being cool way back then, even though it was a lot of brain cells ago, I know he was cool to me.

But I don't have any respect for her. She's still very committed to defending a very corrupt and unethical person, and is devoted to Adhira and Ness. She's a nice woman, sure. And without those bad influences around, under different kind of staff, she'd probably be the same way, and would be praised for it. But she is weak, and has looked the other way quite often. Nyr is a control freak. Everything he does, since the first time, he, as a player, wormed his way onto staff, has been to burrow deeper and deeper into Armageddon's infrastructure and make himself more and more indispensable. All that 'work' you say he does? The vast majority of it is busywork that staff shouldn't be taking on themselves in the first place. Nyr's active, yes. But the game would be better off if he wasn't doing anything. Because what's he active about doing is generally either harmful or petty. He is malevolently absorbed in his own self-serving behavior. He has a toxic effect on the whole staffing culture. And you might be right that Armageddon will never get rid of him. I think you probably are right. But it's equally true that he's made the place unplayable for many people, and I will not eat his shit anymore. If people still want to play there, and endure it. Fine. But there's nothing defensible about him, Adhira, or Ness, at this point. They just are. It's not like Nyr does the work of ten staff in running RPTs, helping newbies, approving characters, building rooms and bringing the world to life for everyone else. He handles the work of ten staffers in seeing where anyone else is having fun and doing his best to be an obstacle to it. And generally obsessing over petty bullshit that only serves to reinforce his grip on events. Like his recent announcement about minor houses. How could anyone read the fine print on that and still take it seriously?

And Nessalin has no interest all in keeping Nyr in check. They're the closest two people on the entire game, staff-side. Nessalin gives Nyr some semblance of legitimacy, and Nyr does Ness' work for him. They're in lock step about everything else, including the way they both jumped on you. That Ness sent you an apologetic email, is only because he was scared. But it seems to have worked, and it's worked for him quite a few times. There's nothing remotely 'badass' about Ness. He is the biggest poser. He's a coward. He's incredibly insecure. He's a fat-ass neckbeard internet tough guy. Fuck him and his mother.

Okay, I certainly get what you say about Nyr and far from me to be defending him, but honestly, what do you think would happen if they were to kick Nyr out tonight? Things would probably get to a crawl, if not a sudden stop and we would be left with an even more static world than Arm already is. You can make fun of Nyr's Tuluki uniforms and the Shadow Whatevers, but at least he did try to do something because Staff is probably aware that pretty much everyone hates Tuluk as it stands. Now they shipped him to the south probably because stuff needs to be done there and he's the only one who actually is willing to write something up within the next five years. Maybe he's going to completely fuck up Allanak but at least he'll try to change /something/. If they kick Nyr out, people will cheer for a day then we'll all be bitching about how nothing ever gets done in six months and it'll be just as horrible. I'm sorta hoping that Nyr might be reading this, if so, hey, Nyr, instead of spending all that time being a total prick and insulting your playerbase, why don't you take the time to learn to code with Diku? Can you imagine how much people would start worshipping you (FOR THE RIGHT REASONS) if you were just as productive as you are now, coded all kind of neat stuff AND were a cool dude to speak with as well? Man, nobody would remember Morgenes in two years and your name would be praised for years to come as the guy who saved Armageddon. Try it just for six months and if you don't like it you can go back to being a total dick? Thanks man, I knew you'd see it our (and by our, I mean the whole playerbase who's watching your next few moves) way.

if joffnyr were kicked out today then much of th playerbase could go back to pretending that arm hasnt lost what made it once great. your right that joffnyr is more active than the others, and he's accelerated the discontent. but he didn't create the policies that have suckified arm. he just enforces them to get his tinhorn dictator jollies. even without joffnyr there still would be all the shittons of rp limitations, the super low glass cieling, no wagons, no slaves, no building, no new clans except for citybased minor merchant house human clans etc. without joffnyr those onerous and blandifying limitations might be enforced with a smile instead of snarky disdain is all.

Sirra, maybe, but out of my whole time playing, he has not messed with me... And in contrast with even Bhag, you don't hear about him just doing dumb shit... I think he stays under the radar on the front by not interfering with the game world. Like, I have never, ever heard of him cheating for people, hooking people up, rolling out in his alt to do insane shit, whatever.... He has been a ghost, no pun intended, on those fronts.
I think staff members start really fucking up with they influence stuff in game based on their whims. Those are the ones we wind up talking about, anyway. Nessalin is notorious for being an asshole, but he has hardly ever been one to me.
There's something to be said for being on staff for that long and not drawing heat for "meddling" in the affairs of mortals. I guess it is worth noting that hearing about the way ness treated someone else /did/ literally bring me to tears this morning, so maybe I am being too fair.

Nyr's constant negatvity, his pettiness, his bureaucratically anal behavior. His incompetence. His misplaced obsessions on his own 'projects', like Tuluk...All of that is a BIG PART of why the game has been crawling since like 2006. Nyr takes away more than he brings. I get what you're saying. But you should get that the whole stasis can to a very large degree, be laid at Nyr's doorstep. He's all about containing people and aborting player initiatives. Not about creating events. Games been crawling for a decade, if not motionless. If Nyr were gone, I think the floodgates would open wide, and a great pall of fear, hesitation and depression would lift from the community. His departure, even if nothing else changed, would energize the game like nothing else. Granted, it will go to shit again because Ness and Adhira would have to find a Nyr-like figure to take up the slack for them again. But it would be great for a little while.

I guess it is worth noting that hearing about the way ness treated someone else /did/ literally bring me to tears this morning, so maybe I am being too fair. He's not like Nyr. But he has been AWOL for a while, and he's perfectly happy with Nyr's leadership and management style. There was like seven years where he was literally below the radar, doing nothing but lurking. What did he add to the game in all his time? What new area of the game world, or interesting addition or innovation? Oh, they killed off kanks and messed up the northern road. They closed a bunch've clans. GREAT JOB, GUYS. As I've said before, and others have here as well...Ness and Adhira are at this point, neither really staff or players in the conventional sense. All of the staffers that came before them left and moved on with their lives when they got to the point that Ness and Adhira are at now. But Ness and Adhira have nowhere else to go. So they stay, and Nyr - who is just a glorified player who wormed his way onto staff to augment his own pleasure - takes up the slack for them. He takes the hits they deserve. The only one I have any pity for is Adhira. But that's what it truly is: pity. She's not someone I would ever take seriously as either a source of professionalism, competency or authority. Nessalin is a coward, neckbeard, pasty internet tough guy who can't even find his own dick. But he acts like a wannabe-Delerak so others think he's a 'bad motherfucker'. He's not. He's a whiny little veal-skinned cumstained sock of a human being. His persona on Arm is what he clings to.
