This got me thinking: I guess what I am getting at is staff get this clean "anonymous" slate when they join staff. Players don't get that privilege, and if you want it you need to create multiple accounts and break the rules. So, let's peel back some of that anonymity, shall we? I suppose we could start with the Big One, Nyrcakes. Does anyone know what his GDB handle is/was as a player?

Well I never meant to start a "let's out them" thread. I personally don't care who Nyr is or anybody on staff for that matter, or anyone who posts here. But my point was more in regards to how people act on the internet. We have this game we all play with a certain expectation of "anonymity" but some people decide to share personal details of their actual lives. I personally do that a lot, via my videos on mudding, my stream channel for League or the fact that I have many Arm players on Facebook.
So my thought process was some people will try to like toe this line where they share some stuff here and there then try to stay anonymous. I just realized that Arm staff was kind of bad about this. I met a lot of staffers back at the APMs at DragonCon and it was super cool but it was almost a bad thing because I now had this idea about a lot of them that may have been completely false.
Pulling back the veil can be a good thing, but I recognize a lot of people want their privacy, but if you're going to post a video on youtube talking about Arm (Nyr) then that kind of opens you up to people and I think trying to remain some sort of digital personality through forum posting is absolutely ludicrous.

I really don't know where I'm going with this at all. Just that it bothers me in general. I think people should be more open to the idea of being transparent. Showing who you are and how you think. Videos are a great way to do this and I can't wait to do some more videos.

I get you, Delerak. Although I'll admit to a perverse glee in holding those who think they're anonymous' feet to the fire, my main thrust was continuing to develop a theory I have about everyone's favorite staff-member.
I recall Nyr actually being a decent Storyteller, at least player-side. A little bull-headed, sure, but also dependable and industrious. IIRC, his GDB posts contained some modicum of actual wit, as opposed to unvarnished invective. He even had, dare I say it, a certain charm that was on display at his best. Overall, not a jaw-dropping addition to the Arm staff, but solid, and certainly nothing like what he's (d)evolved into today.
My theory is that he's gone from a (presumably) good player, to a decent Storyteller, to a questionable Admin, to, finally, a Goddess-awful Producer.
I would love to see some logs of either his player or Storyteller days; I have plenty of my own material since then, mainly in nasty-grams. Does anyone have something like that, confirmed?

Not only does this seem unnecessary with no final productive end-goal in mind...it is also somewhat creepy and stalker-ish.

The end goal is to see what the hell happened to make Nyr such a sorry excuse of an administrator. If we can find this reason, perhaps we can make him good like the old days.
I'd say that's incredibly productive.

I'm not really interested in going out of my way to figure out which staff member is whom, but I'm pretty sure somebody has mentioned Nyr's player GDB handle on these very forums, if you want to track it down.

much more productive would be to post all those nasty-grams on that thread dedicated to Nyr's vindictive toxicity. i'm just... speechless at how other staff can see that shit (which they can staffside) and not push the turd out.

They don't have the capacity to get him to leave. If it truly came down to it, Nessalin's vote would trump Adhira's based on the fact he owns the server. And Nessalin would side with his buddy -- that's assuming Adhira would even approach such an invested stance as bucking him out (what with everything he's helped design ensuring his needed input).
Someone needs to be the person to invest hours approaching a full-time job towards Armageddon based on the bureaucracy creep that's occurred, and the only person who can do it is the fella who helped it get that way. You also have to take into account the staff body that Nyr has raised which supports him unconditionally.
It would be infinitely easier to, instead of fighting this losing battle, one of the coders (not Nessalin) yanked the database and code, and a shard broke off with completely different policy. It would take a long time to get off the ground, but so would the alternative.
But this is off topic so I digress.

The end goal is to see what the hell happened to make Nyr such a sorry excuse of an administrator. If we can find this reason, perhaps we can make him good like the old days. This. Somewhere, things went off the rails with Nyr, which in turn has had a cascading effect on other staff and the game as a whole. It took time, though, as Arm is pretty damn resilient as a shared universe and as a community (the two are intertwined, but not synonymous). I have to wonder where in the hell the person whose jokes I used to sometimes laugh at went to? I must not have been paying attention to this process, because the first time I truly ran afoul of Nyr and Co., it was like a sucker-punch: I just couldn't believe what I was reading. I'll readily admit it may be a hopeless goal. But who knows, there's been so much shared on this board I never thought would see the light of day, or areas of discussion I didn't even know existed, that I thought it'd be worth a shot, my own clumsy OP notwithstanding.

People are going to wonder. I mean if I posted something about someone and they were upset and came to me about it I would probably remove it but at the same time there is a certain honesty in someone who is willing to face the internet head on. I find that far more endearing then those that choose to remain in their anonymous little world of sunshine and bullshit which is totally their right. Again it is the internet if you don't want creepy stalkers you should probably go back to your books. I welcome all creepy stalkers with open arms.

The end goal is to see what the hell happened to make Nyr such a sorry excuse of an administrator. If we can find this reason, perhaps we can make him good like the old days. I'd say that's incredibly productive. I think we know at least one of the reasons. Nyr values a particular playstyle, and does not care to deal with several others. Regardless what labels you wrap around the styles he doesnt appreciate, he goes of out his way in communication, in plots, in staff he promotes, and probably what he approves, to fit the desired mold. When you drive one person out of a game, they often take part of their social circle with them. Nyr wants a smaller game with a narrower selection of players. Surprise, he is getting it.
