I can't believe anyone in this thread is even trying to defend the decision to threaten banning a player's wife for their alleged misgivings. As if to say: but wait, we don't have all the facts, there could be a perfectly reasonable explanation behind this! I think about the only sensible reply to that which comes to mind is: bitch, please. You're reaching for straws in a desperate attempt to defend someone being a cock just for devil's advocate sake. it's pretty telling when someone doesn't think it excessive, absurd, or over the top for a video game volunteer to go randomly threatening people and their spouse's account, especially going on such weak evidence that you realize you were wrong when they say 'wtf are you talking about' for the high crime of ~~posting video game secrets on the internet~~ like jkarr said, jack shit is going to come of this but at least we can laugh at how seriously a manchild takes his video games.

Since I played devil's advocate for what I guessed a staff response might be, here is something I picked out. If Jazet and his wife both played ARM at the time and both had accounts. Why was Jazet being informed of his wife's punishment? Shouldn't they have both received separate e-mails because staff don't discuss request tool & punishments for one player with another?
Okay I think that's all I have for this thread until someone posts another log.

Okay I think that's all I have for this thread until someone posts another log. She had no idea she was being threatened until I told her about it. She never got any sort of email from Nyr in that incident, nor was her character that she was on with at the moment I was force stored, put into storage. So if we're being technical, she wasn't being punished, just threatened with punishment through me, without her potentially ever knowing she had the axe over her neck.

lol @ cheater board. also where's my2sids et al? "b-b-b-but nyr says he doesnt read the board!!" I still don't actually think he reads the boards but I know that other staff do. He probably gets linked to stuff that is deemed "staff contract breaking". Anyway, I'm not Nyr's PR rep. I'd be pretty pissed if I was sent that e-mail.

Would you be pretty pissed if you had spent years working for max karma on ArmageddonMUD and was dropped down to 4 because of stupid shit from a staff member who had creeped on you and who you had blocked from AIM? A staff member who had never really even had any leadership characters and who had not played as long as you? And who has stolen some of your weed when you met her IRL?
That's what happened to me. I was pretty pissed.
Out of 15 years playing, that instance is the only time I have lost karma, not counting anything that has happened since I started posting here.
Despite being a good player for years and years afterward, the last point was never restored.
Go ahead, people... Don't say anything about fucked up imm practices. When you rub a single obscure imm the wrong way and they take away a lot of what you worked for out of pure spite, don't say I didn't warn you.

I'm sorry if your hulking, barrel-chested man has below average strength, that's not my problem. But if we catch you suiciding the role for a better score we'll ban your step sister.

I know you are just kidding, but I was just a boy when I started playing Arm in 1999... And it probably hurt my feelings more than it should have, but I spent my teenage years looking at people like Sanvean and Karianna as the internet equivalent of coaches who taught me what to do and not to do.
And to have the rewards of trust given to me by people who I grew up respecting and trying to emulate, simply smashed by others who wanted to be spiteful, well, again, it bothered/bothers me more than it should... But I have never thought that it was justified.
It's not.

You're right. It isn't justified. Not by a long shot. I maintain, the game needs staffers with real leadership skills. A good leader will recognize the younger ones from the more mature players and apply an extra dose of understanding, rather than expecting a young kid to fully realize the ramifications of their IC actions. A good leader will try to be a role model and offer guidance more and punishment less. It's sad that I even have to use the word punishment in the context of an online game at all.

To Nyr's credit, he restored some of what was taken - after I said something about how unfair it was - and he agreed.
But no one ever apologized for it happening. No one was ever like, "our bad spartibas, that was actually sorta fucked up... Sorry."
And even after years of playing merchants afterward and not getting in trouble a single time, the last point was never restored. Why?
To hold it over my head, maybe, or just to never fully remove the punishment. Or maybe just out of spite.
Eventually, it was this argument - in small part, anyway - that led to me posting the thing that caused me to come here. And you see what that has helped do.
Karma does not only apply to players. It applies to the staff as well. Players may not be able to prevent staff members from having their psionicist and sorcerer alt characters, but we can damn sure let it be known when they start accruing their own form of negative karma.

Karma is a two way street in ArmageddonMUD whether some people realize it or not.

Unless you're a magic tragic, there's no use for karma. Half-giants and mages remove all the fun from the game in my opinion. Muls are an unrealistic goal and psionicisists require too much staff interaction to be feasible. Again, don't set yourself up for disappointment.

Well, almost all of my long-lived characters have been merchants, but really, it is the point of the matter.
It has far more to do with spiteful behavior and unreasonable punishments than it does with actually being able to play a bunch of magickers.
Umm how long have you been playing the game, hackem?
I have been playing long enough to have been friends with people in game and OOCly who would disagree very much so that you need to have staff support or interaction to play a psionicist.

i b4 ppl treat arm like its a civil rights thing... It is a game, and games should be fair and lack bullying from those who are chosen or ask to be in positions of authority.
