Welcome to the shadowboards. What are your feelings about mindbending northern templars and Qoriya in general? You might have had more insight on their actions over the years. Do you feel they hindered plots/character or did you see them doing more good then harm? With tuluk gone it would be great to analyze the mistakes that lead to the down fall of tuluk in even more detail so that we can better see signs of it occurring again in staff infested Allanak. Those are really good questions. Full disclosure: Qoriya Tennshi was an IC ally of Dragean Tenneshi (and every player thinks highly of PCs that like their own PCs). That said, the presence of the mindbending Lirathans wasn't nearly as bad as I expected before I played Dragean. I expected them to meddle in everything, because what's to prevent them from doing so? I expected that politicking would be impossible without the ability to keep secrets, especially since IC'ly my PC didn't know about the mindbending powers of the Lirathans. So, there were very few Lirathan PCs during the 3.5 years or so I played Dragean: Qoriya, Isatep Mrenteki, Kelara Dasari, and Layla Lyksae. Layla should never have been given the role, she was meddlesome and literally acted insane and not very long lived, but the others were great (even if Dragean couldn't stand Isatep IC'ly). None of the others were meddlesome with my politicking. In fact, Qoriya was so noninterventionist that Dragean would get annoyed with her IC'ly because he felt his ally wasn't doing enough to help his cause. I was around Qoriya the most because Kelara and Layla were short lived and Isatep got herself killed by a mage maybe after a year of my playing Dragean. From my perspective playing Dragean, it was always my impression that Qoriya really only screwed people with her psionics if they were mages, mindbenders, or Enemies of the State. That said, I think that the general knowledge that Lirathans were all mindbenders really was corrosive, because everybody assumed, like me, that there would be no point in politicking or in trying to keep secrets in Tuluk with PC Lirathans around. I can think of ways that the widespread knowledge of Lirathan mindbending could have been addressed, but they're moot now.

I don't think the problems caused by Qoriya were much felt by the nobility, much less her allies.

Layla was really bad, there was another Faithful during your time period RedRanger. It was that female faithful, royce the old man minstrel was her partisan, and she got killed by Henn in the backroom of the Sanctuary and it was covered up. Forget her name. Might have been Kelara, so you might not have forgotten her!

Okay so I've been meaning to ask you this for awhile but it kept slipping my mind. Your OOC opinion on Sinjinn as a character and his impact on Tuluki culture and inter-racial RP during his stint?

The purpose of voicing complaints is to notify the powers that be there is a problem so it can be remedied. What happens when those capable of remedying the problem don't seem to care or ignore the complaints? I'm reminded of something Gordon Ramsey always says to restaurateurs on Kitchen Nightmares who show him all the positive comments they get left in notes. "How many of those people actually came back here?! In my restaurants, we almost exclusively pay attention to the negative responses so we'll know when there's a problem."You don't seem to know as much about that situation with the Red Robe as you seem to think you do. Fuck off, transparent staff account. That whole "Nobody can know for sure if they're not staff" act is dated and ineffective. I'm very sorry to hear you have backed off , for the moment anyway, RR. The Chosen Lard was one of the highlights for me, during that time in Tuluk. I am behind you 100% in wanting to collect Tuluki tatts. Too much, there is no real danger in cities where there should be. Here's why I was disappointed at the time that this one little plot of mine was OOC'ly squelched, and why I'm doubly disappointed now. What if my little Red Hunt bounty was allowed to go forward and it produced more danger and excitement for Tuluki PCs? What if that then led to Tuluki PCs banding together to lay traps to kill the bounty hunter PCs? What if this led to some buzz that there's fun and dangerous cat and mouse RP up around Tuluk? What if that buzz improved the size of the Tuluki playerbase? What if...? Damn straight. I would bet it would have been huge with the Legion of two months ago. Players dealing with some environmental hazard the staff throw at them gets boring. It'll go on until the staffer stops it. Stuff that is entirely the product of another player, on the other hand, is something you can fix yourself. It's a chance to pit your skills and resources against someone else where victory won't be determined by some arbitrator and where the stakes really just boil down to bragging rights. Even better, the story you wind up getting to tell, whether you win or not, is meaningful to you because you mattered in making it. Case-in-point: The same question has been raised here before on the board; what can you do so if the staff never supports your plots? I keep asking myself and going in circles. No point in accumulating coin. No real point in exploring. No point in striving for rank given a glass ceiling. No chance of discovering some unexpected treasure in an unknown ruin (i.e. adventure). No point in trying to build an invincible character to challenge the world, even sorcerers are gone now. What's left? Just plotting to mess with other PCs. Over and over. I guess that's fine for some people, but not for everyone. You keep trying until either there's a new upper staff who don't suck or until you accept the futility and quit Arm entirely. Sorry, man. I think the bounty for Tuluki hands is the closest its come to actually feeling like there is strife between the city states. I am appalled that they would curtail you on that front after Nyr made all those public appeals to come play in Tuluk TO ENCOURAGE war-like plots between the city states. Nyr lied? Nyr contradicted himself? Impossible. As you can't see, all of the information you discussed is behind these black redaction marks. Obviously he was encouraging every player to be the change once they are conscripted into Arm's script as extras. Being some kind of change that... oh lord... changes things in any way outside of staff control..? No. Just no. Why would you think that?! As long as there is god-kings, black-robes, gemmers, mind-reading ninjas, and so on to enforce the Staff's narrow vision, they can keep squashing ideas. I know there are a lot of magick nut-huggers around but I don't see why you couldn't have more fun if magick was more of a sub-guild in all cases and highly toned down. Bring the conflict to a real low player to player level that is meaningful to players, without always having to answer to those above. The staff could crush your ideas even if every NPC in the world is a merchant and only PCs could play magickers. They aren't able to crush your ideas because they have a virtual status quo to maintain. They're able to do it because they're staff and you're not. The text on the screen that accompanies the death of your plot happens solely because they have the power to write it.

Okay so I've been meaning to ask you this for awhile but it kept slipping my mind. Your OOC opinion on Sinjinn as a character and his impact on Tuluki culture and inter-racial RP during his stint? That looks like a loaded question! But I'll do my best. I really like Sinjinn's player going back many years, and I liked Sinjinn as a character on the whole, he was vibrant and entertaining to be around (even when he was betraying and murdering one of my well played and trusted PC aides). I also happen to love the Akai Sjir, which was his player's idea from when he was on the staff, IIRC. That clan was an example of something totally new and unique and very Tuluki, I felt. All that said, I did feel that Sinjinn's relationship with a human bard PC felt... off and out of step for Tuluk where, IMO, rigid segregation is the norm. Of course, people screw up IRL and IC'ly all the time, but when it comes to RP what matters are the consequences and both the bard PC and Sinjinn suffered sorely for their transgressions. So I didn't get the sense that Sinjinn's RP set a bad precedent that others followed later.

Very powerful post, RR. Something about the tuluk announcement seems to be increasing our population here. And you're clearly an ultra long time vet, so your departure from the game I'd say represents a staggering loss. If knowing this means nothing to the staff then that's clearly the number one problem with the majority of them to begin with (I say majority because I do recognize that there are a few good apples). The sad thing is staff like Nyr are probably genuinely happy to see you go, because I bet a kid like him would feel threatened by your intellect. He screams of inferiority complex.
I interacted with Sargax quite a bit over the years. At a time when many players were trying to be overly verbose and flowery with their emotes, yours were always short and concise, but specific, focusing on driving plots more than trying to impress others with word count; and the simplicity allowed for a consistent, well defined persona. Sargax was a very real, very visceral part of the game for me and at the risk of sounding like an ass kisser, your character has influenced much of my RP style to this day.
One question for ya. The staff specifically told you to stop hunting Tukukis? Did they give any reason why? I know the allanaki liberation alliance was closed in part because the game wanted to disassociate with real world terrorist themes, given the current events of the day. Could that be why? If so I think that's lame but just speculating. The city's been a complete ghost town despite nyrs chanting of "everything is fine, everything is fine" so maybe they were oocly protecting tuluk's dwindling population (which would make sense, given their history of coddling and protecting their favorites). Also, if you have any classic Nyr emails I'm sure we'd all love to see a few contributions to nyrs greatest hits. I have a few real gems from him with my current player account but I can't yet share here because reasons.
Even before my fingers touch the keys I know that what I type next will be met with silence but I challenge anyone on staff today to reach out to one of the vets like RR who you've driven to quit and have an honest and open discussion with them, making absolutely certain that you try to listen and understand. Understand that like you they are human and make mistakes, understand that being in a position of authority means the onus of "being the better person" and not succumbing to petty remarks is on you. You won't do it, but I promise you if you even made the effort you'd fine the game will halt in its downward descent and take a turn for the better. You see I can admit my faults openly, and say what I've done wrong in the game, and have a discussion about how we all might happily move forward. Can you?

ALA was gone before 9/11. But there were elements of terrorism - rightfully so, if you ask me - after 9/11, like for instance when some gladiator games were bombed by masked rinthers.
The biggest problem with ALA that I can remember was the fact that it was an acronym...
Pretty sure the ALA help file was up until after 9/11, but I'm not sure that it was ever active.

It doesn't help if bombers shout "ALA" after they blow something up. I think it'd be okay if the name was changed.
