I know mostly "revenge characters" are against the rules (but pedophilia isn't). But why? Are they usually lame? Is is considered a "Revenge character" if that character just so "happens" to kill a bunch of folks a prior character knows?
Does a successful "pk" mean that player isn't allow to "pk" you back or its considered a revenge character?
Are revenge characters only characters who sole purpose is to get even with another player?
Is there really an issue with "Revenge Characters" or is it some GDB bullshit boogie man thing?

it doesnt matter what ur ooc motivations for making a char act a certain way are as long as they fit sensibly within the game world
ie if ur rping effectively ur ooc motivations wont be apparent enough for anyone to take notice. and when they do become apparent, thats a sign that uve got to do a better job separating ic and ooc and not letting it bleed into ur rp
u could basicly make 50 back to back chars who each at some point have an interest in killing my pc that killed urs 50 chars ago if it makes ic sense

Top, add to the discussion! I was kind of curious to feelings about this. Or seeing if people could share stories.
As I mul'ed it over I wonder what constitutes just regular play from the "NEVER MAKE A REVENGE CHARACTER" move. Like How would staff or even players tell at one rate?

People do it all the time. Its not a big deal, imo. Just keep things IC and it shouldn't be an issue. I like trolling people and player killing, so I tend to make characters with a modus operandi that enables me to do that. Anaiah likes having lesbian mudsex, so she tends to make characters who are inclined towards the ole lickaroo. Lulz told me the majority of people he killed on Flint Sky were just revenge characters trying to kill him over and over again. Ok, lets say someone killed your character. You're a little buttfrustrated. You want to kill that character. You make a character with some elaborate backstory and personality that just so happens to be a right fit in being able to kill the character that killed yours. So you eventually kill him. It might be "frowned upon" - but honestly who really cares? You did not break any rules. Old ladies frown at me when I flick them off because they drive too slow. You aren't gonna get karma docked over it. You aren't gonna get shitlisted for it. And even if you do, fuck it. You threw down the gauntlet, demanded your satisfaction, and got it. Nothing else matters.

I dunno. Seems kinda petty. I'm not so attached to my PCs that I need to justify myself like that.
I'm on PC #152. IMO if you've been playing longer than 2 years you've been conditioned to care less about shitty deaths if it's not player complaint worthy.
Sure, get butthurt for a week or something. But revenge PCs? Get a life.

You flick off old ladies? FOR SHAME. crusty old beavers need to learn how to drive their mercury towncars imo planned, long-term revenge is pretty fucking admirable. its a lot easier to let things go as opposed to stewing, plotting, planning, and being butthurt for months on end just so you can finally stick it to someone. literally become the anime character that killed your father as a child

This thread was prompted by a random GDB post I was thinking about. It was someone complaining that a magicker class seems to have specifically targeted them for a "revenge killing" of a prior character.
I always wondered how that player knew it was a specific "revenge pc". But I'm sure some butt hurt was had on the OOC chat or even possibly some gloating by said "Revenge pc"
But it made me curious, how people tell, how often it happens, and the what the big fuss is about in some cases.

Eh, I'd call bad form if you make a character tailored to taking out a character that took out one of your characters in the past.
It is what it is though, no real way to stop stuff like that from happening and imo I'm cool with it if you actually make a -character- and not some half-assed revengebot.

It's not uncommon for players that like Rp'ing with you to make another character and "find" you again, so of course it would be just as common for someone to make another character and try to get back at you in some kind of way.
How can you tell? There's lots of ways: Everybody has certain RP quirks (things they do and how they emote), some people make the same kind of characters over and over, some people are lame enough to actually drop hints that they are the same person you killed before.
You really can't complain about it, especially on the gdb (the same gdb where they were in agreement that emoting =/= RP) because those are the type of players that would try to attempt a revenge character. If you think it's happening, the best thing to do is prepare as much as you can for a gank attempt.

Bad form. I think characters made with some kind of 'I'm going to make life as hard as possible on group X' in mind are detrimental to the game in general: it completely circumvents any attempt at RP from the group in question. Revenge characters are a corollary of that rule.
