I suppose there's two things that work with this happening. Firstly, just how bad do you really consider this? It involves no physical contact, anonymity, and stepping away from sexual RP is easy and affects nothing at all for in-game RP. The age of consent varies wildly between various countries and even jurisdictions, and you could even make the case that Arm can be tame enough that none of this applies. The second problem is enforcement. Just how do you propose that Arm's staff even keep this kind of thing in line, if they are even interested in that? Should they impose a ban on everyone who happens to bang a char belonging to someone who's underage, knowing this or not? Are they going to verify everyone's identity papers to really make sure that yes, they are underage? Do all characters played by underage people need to receive flags that peg them down as underage-played? Do two sixteen-year-olds getting it on deserve a ban together? And just why is banging underage characters if not players okay? MUDs depict some weird shit and internet anonymity makes questionable behavior easy. Nothing new under the sun. Again this, coupled with Malken's post. You're really grasping at straws over here to try and get your point made. |

I don't think it's too terrible of a thing. I don't feel like traumatized or anything like that, but throughout my 20s, I really never even came close to pursuing any sexual or romantic shit on Arm because, well, mainly from prior experience and the results stemming from it. I don't know.
But it's unfair to be called crazy just for wanting to discuss something like this. I think the fact that it can't be so easily dismissed is one reason for the strongly negative reactions cropping up in this thread.

What if some freak like Ivory Angel manipulated your kid into a psychological and textually sexually explicit relationship while posing ICly and OOCly as like, an underage girl?
I mean, yeah, it is on the parent to monitor a child, I get that. But let's face it, maybe the imms should spend less time worrying about how much I'm crafting or how little I'm emoting - and work on preventing shit like this instead.

I prefer when games put little quote when you first saying "THIS GAME IS FOR PEOPLE 18+ Or with a PARENTS CONSENT. The game may contain sexual content." Not that minors would tell their parents they are playing those types of games. But at least the game pre-warned.

You can't monitor a childs internet shit, despite what parents think, kids figure out how to get around it.
The thing that sucks most though is that minors can't agree to any terms or services, so if they agree too it, it's invalid because minors can't sign contracts if they are under the age of eighteen. So basically you can screw over a lot of games just because you're a minor and get them in trouble.

That's interesting, and I wasn't aware.
If it turns out that this sort of thing is illegal, and I don't know if it is or isn't, then a disclaimer saying something like people are liable to prosecution if found to be simulating sexual acts with minors, well... That might work.
I don't know the law, but laws aside, it's unethical. And I realize that it often happens BECAUSE of anonymity - and I am in no way saying someone who's inadvertly mudsexed a minor is a monster, or a bad person.

I don't know what they do for a minors when it comes to games. I just know minors can't sign anything that looks like a contract.
I don't know if it was this MUD or another one, but I had a friend who was banned from a game and he had to show his drivers license too the staff to prove that he was over the age of eighteen after jokingly saying he was underaged.

Armageddon doesn't say that it's 18+ only. I think it should.
It's not people's fault if they didn't know you were a kid, though. I wouldn't do sexual roleplay with a known minor; that's creepy. Nor would I want to engage in graphic torture roleplay with some 11-year-old, or perform actions IG that would lead them to that sort of situation. I'm afraid the latter may have happened, though, and while I feel squicky about it, it can't be helped, especially when there is no 18+ rule.
I'm sorry you had a disturbing experience, kronibas, but people can't be held responsible for things they didn't even know.

I mean there was rape on Arm once upon a time. I don't know where it started but I remember the annoying characters who really started spreading it out. I had a character in His Arm at the time and there were two character who were claiming IC Rape. Than after those characters died (they barely lasted a few days) Their next characters started doing it. I'm just glad it got shut down, just not soon enough with all the pointless drama it caused.
Edit: They were also shitty roleplayers, biggest Mary Sues i've ever seen on Arm.
