The Arm of the Dragon recruits are unpaid volunteers, too. Don't bully them

THEY'RE UNPAID VOLUNTEERS ASSHOLE. edit: Just thinking, I find perhaps almost disturbing the amount of effort given to squish a plot makes me feel the "volunteers" excuse that so easily tossed out carries no fucking weight. Which perhaps is most folks biggest complaint. Not that they're actively lazy... their only actively when it comes to pushing plots forward... crushing them, ones that require little staff involvement seems to be 90% of their energy. They don't wanna work... but its like in the same breath, they want you utterly dependent on them. I find the whole mess... rather disturbing, confusing, and wondering why nerds who spend their time, dedicated time to a text base game were we pretend to be other people, are so utterly the bully it's not funny. It's like their highschool revenge or something It would be one thing if they had created the game. If it was truly theirs, they might have some minor grounds for being defensive towards criticism with the volunteer retort. However, those remaining who are actually veteran staff are largely retired and just retain their titles out of courtesy while the ones running the game now are people who took over relatively recently and have wasted no time in driving it into the ground. For them to tell the players whose game they've ruined, and to whom they themselves belonged not terribly long ago, that they have no basis for complaint because staff is unpaid volunteers, is just so hollow and pathetic that it's comical. Take over a game, ruin it, then defend it with the fact that you didn't get paid to do it. What a bunch of complete fuckwits.

Honestly it's not that recent
Since the end of the world plots, I mean. Been downhill ever since Reborn was announced.
But I agree

Their completely undisguised hatred of the playerbase and efforts to stop anything any player tries to do is a bit more recent than that. I'd say four years or so.

Heh, I remember a few years back they tried blockading Hathor's Way with a bunch of HG soldiers set to "guard" the southward exit.
There were a few badass PCs that would clean them out every time some were posted and use "arrange corpse" to leave some of the goriest bloodbath descriptions I've ever seen on Arm to date.
Good times.
They wound up putting a bunch of those ridiculous "unit" NPCs in their place after a while though. :/

Unit NPCs... they really are an awful and lazy addition to the game. They utterly fail at representing a group of soldiers. Why do they do unarmed damage? Just a lazy excuse to make them more dangerous. Using so many half giant soldiers is the same excuse.

I don't really feel like the response is supposed to represent a squabble between a few individuals. Its Organization vs Organization...A high level rinth gang representing a neutral/neutral evil that governs over many illegal activities.VS. A high level City State Militia gang representing Lawful/Lawful evil that governs over many illegal activities.
They are having a turf war.
The Militia responds the only way they know how. Its an okay response compared to ordering npc half giants to go clear the rinth. Because that IMO would be unrealistic and over kill.
The said Organizations are a midst a stand off and the civilians suffer in the wake. There are likely several options to end the stalemate. One of them being war. Its doubtful it will come to that as other options will be implemented first, such as bribery, political favors, assassinations, etc..etc..

well yeah, when you compare it to a very absurd response the less absurd one is an "okay" response.

I agree this.. South of here is Hathor's Way. [Very far] A half-giant soldier is standing here. A half-giant soldier is standing here. A half-giant soldier is standing here. [Far] Nothing. [Near] A human soldier of Tektolnes stands before the southern alley. A half-giant soldier is standing here. A half-giant soldier is standing here. A half-giant soldier is standing here. A half-giant soldier is standing here. A half-giant soldier is standing here. A half-giant soldier is standing here. A half-giant soldier is standing here. A half-giant soldier is standing here. A half-giant soldier is standing here.
is over kill and pretty ridiculous, but again, stupid over reactions happen irl as well and often the civilians are the ones who suffer.

i love you guys but none of you have any real inkling of whats going on and why. honestly you should just stop talking about it There's nothing that can be going on to justify trying to isolate an entire starting location and sphere of the game containing clans and being practically the only feasible playing locale for the supposedly second most populous race in the city, with the grotesque misuse of NPCs and not even an attempt to create roleplay from it. If they really must impose gameplay-crippling restrictions like this, they have an obligation to make something of it that players can participate in and enjoy with reasonable accessibility and some publically available information. There are no board posts containing anything of use, people aren't talking about it, and the 'rinth is an absolute ghost town as a result. Staff has an obligation to try to encourage plots and roleplay, not stamp it out every chance they get, but that's what they do time and time again. This is just one of countless examples of how they hinder roleplay instead of facilitating it.

i love you guys but none of you have any real inkling of whats going on and why. honestly you should just stop talking about it please fill me in. are these some sort of mindbended half-giants controlled by a psion who keeps them focused? supermutant HG NPCs with advanced intellect that blend in seamlessly with the standard Militia guard? a massive illusion willed into existence by Tektolnes himself??? what part of having a dozen standard HG NPCs and 1 human am I misinterpreting or overlooking?

Now, this is a story all about how The rinth got flipped-turned upside down And I'd like to take a minute Just sit right there I'll tell you how I became disillusioned with playing in the 'rinth
In west side born and raised In the alleyways was where I spent most of my days Chillin' out maxin' relaxin' all cool And all twinking on some npcs outside of the quit room When a couple of elves who were up to no good Started making trouble in my neighborhood I got in one little fight and the staff got scared They said 'Templar's coming barricade the entrance and exit of Hathors' I begged and pleaded with them day after day But they ignored my character report and sent me on my way Staff gave me a kick and then a bad account note. I put my footpads on and said, 'I might as well kick it'.
South Side, yo this is bad Drinking kalan juice out of a wine glass. Is this what the people of South side living like? Hmmmmm this might be alright.
But wait I hear they're prissy, bourgeois, all that Is this the type of place that they just send this cool rat? I don't think so I'll see when I get there I hope they're prepared for the prince of 'rinth
Well, the half-giants yelled as I ran past There was a dude who looked like a guard standing there with my name out I ain't trying to get arrested yet I just got here I sprang with the quickness like lightning, disappeared
I whistled for a beelte and when it came near The shell was purple and it had dice in on the mandibles If anything I could say that this beetle was rare But I thought 'Nah, forget it' - 'Yo, homes to Red's retreat'
I pulled up to the Red's about early or late afternoon And I yelled to the beetle 'Yo homes smell ya later' I looked at my kingdom I was finally there To sit on my throne as the disillusioned prince of the 'rinth

A few months back a few of us kicked around the idea of rolling up characters and playing in the 'rinth. Did that make staff crack down on people that were playing there?
