The blockade isn't locked. Sometimes it's not even closed. The other blockade is often left wide open. There is also the sewers and the rooftops. For some mages, there's also "in the air" and "over the edge." If you're pals with some mages, you too can climb almost effortlessly. There's lots of options. Unless you're a heavily-armored or otherwise weighted down warrior who refuses to do business with witches and just wandered into the rinth by mistake and got stuck inside and happen to have no idea how to get back out again. And you're without a stitch of climbing gear or money to buy any. If that's you, then you should've been ganked by the rinthi npcs for your loot anyway so it's a moot point. The hyperbole in this thread is pretty thick, mostly written by people who don't play, or don't play in Allanak and have no actual knowledge of what's going on. The Rinth-Southside activity is now more difficult, but definitely not impossible. That's kind of how it should be. It shouldn't be common to see rinthis hanging out in the Gaj or Red's hobnobbing with noble and templar aides in public. But that's not even relevant. What happened was the result of IC stuff that players were doing with their PCs, instigated by PCs, driven by PCs, caused by PCs, and requested by PCs. It was implemented by the staff, because PCs can't codedly build the blockade that they asked for and needed staff to get that done. You're so full of shit that it's not even funny

Staff don't want you to fucking open up a barricade in a room with like 12 HG guards that are guarding the way out and require you to daredevil sprint spam past and cross your fingers or have master sneak. The same goes for the secret blockade, which people were abusing, so they loaded soldiers into the actual alley so now you can't open the barricade and you have actual npc soldiers in that part of the rinth. I'm glad that if you have a gicker friend, good climb or too much time on your hands, you can find these obscure ways out of the rinth and somehow start up a plot.
But that's not what people are even complaining about. They're saying that it's unrealistic and just another way for staff to completely railroad the rinth and scare away the whole playerbase like they do anytime the rinth picks up in activity and gets some fun plots going, you silly man. As someone who has played multiple rinthers (who have been anti-magicker, very ghetto and have spurred interest in the rinth through fun and realistic plots without relying on magickers, southerners or twinked skills), I'm saying that you're full of shit and running your mouth just to run your mouth.
And no, people aren't complaining about rinthis not being able to tavern sit in the Gaj. But I'll let that slide, since I know tavern sitting is your main activity in Arm and your whole experience of the rinth, probably along with ganking newbies and sucking southie dick, if you've even ever played there.

The blockade only takes AOD players to open the locked gate, and you can open the barricade in the gicker quarter weather the guards are there or not. The realism is debatable and irrelevant. Authorities do stupid shit that has negative impacts on society all the time.

Last time I was there, they literally had a squad of HG soldiers stationed one north of the westside blockade (yes, in the actual 'rinth) and guarding the exit. Reboots might reset these but still, you'd have to twink past a unit of soldiers to even be able to access the blockade, and then there were like eight more standing outside it.

I look forward to when the staff cause a massive earthquake to cut off accss to tuluk. we'll complain about the hamfistd way they closed off the cty. And the bullshtting white knights will intentionally avoid the point by callng it a "natural chasm" as if that changes its rsult in the game world.

They wouldn't do that, Tuluk is now Nyr's creation and must be preserved while he works to cull from the game everything that isn't associated with him. On the other hand, Tuluk is about as deserted now as the 'rinth.
I actually had a chance to see the new Tuluk for myself a while back. What an absolute shitpile. Half the city and all gates except the main west gate are barred for non-citizens, and the layout has been arbitrarily remolded without any significant changes to the actual distances and locations, so it has just been made unfamiliar for no reason at all. And since any non-citizens are fiercely discouraged from visiting due to the crippling limitations on gameplay in Tuluk, its potential playerbase is cut in half by default, which then further diminishes the remaining half because who wants to play in a city where they know non-citizens won't go?
Incidentally, on three visits throughout a couple of RL days, I saw nobody. Kinda like the 'rinth.

someone PMed to me log showing the following:
do i need to elaborate on why it's silly that there are literally over a dozen half-giant soldiers to a single human soldier and how, going by Arm documentation, it's beyond idiotic to entrust boring tasks such as 'stand in this position for hours on end near these shady con artists' to a curious race of humanoids that are gullible and have the intelligence of a 5 year old?
oh but wait i forgot they're NPC automatons who can't be bribed, fast-talked, or distracted so there's nothing to worry about.

Just the logistics of devoting 20+ soldiers to permanent station in places where they're otherwise of literally zero use, i.e. not in a position to patrol or within running distance of anywhere that might need policing, all because a few dudes got in a fight with a few other dudes. Totally bizarre and an awful precedent to set in a game where that kind of roleplay is supposed to be encouraged and fundamental to the setting.

The rinth barricade is more heavily guarded than the main gate of Tuluk last I looked at it... And the main gate at Tuluk has a High Templar NPC hanging out in front of it.

Gosh I really hope staff reads this... so even if they fail to admit it... they've gone full retard. A couple of uppity thugs from the north side, gonna thug. OMGWTFBBQ not in the HIGH LORDS CITY! You know because hundreds of thousands of people who living in awful soul crushing poverty, where people often died of starvation on the streets, and around every corner so could stab you for a drink of water... the thought that some thugs might actually thug out on some other dudes... requires a full blown military response. Fucking intellectually deficient, like I think staff or the staff who pulled this stunt, should have to know write everything they plan to do, so we can make sure at lest they get to read their own stupid ideas before just implementing them.

And next month, when somebody asks staff why the game is so boring and nothing is going on, they'll go "we don't know why players have stopped trying, it's your own fault for not going out and doing things."

Interesting way to do exactly what the staff did but better...
1. Between 1 - 3 NPC guards at the blockade 2. PC militia have to man the blockade as part of their duty shifts 3. Rinthi's and Nakki's are allowed to pass through the blockade but get extorted / bullied by the PC militia manning it (corruption tax here people) 4. The duty shift at the blockade can be a 'punishment' assignment while passing through it can be reserved for the lower rank guild scrubs and unaffiliated rinthi's 5. Killing a guard at the blockade could be an initiation right for the various gangs/guilds both coded and PC made in the rinth
It's not great but at least it gives it more flavour and encourages interaction by having rinthis and militia rub elbows.
Edit - Also it gives the militia PCs something to fucking do >.>

THEY'RE UNPAID VOLUNTEERS ASSHOLE.
edit: Just thinking, I find perhaps almost disturbing the amount of effort given to squish a plot makes me feel the "volunteers" excuse that so easily tossed out carries no fucking weight. Which perhaps is most folks biggest complaint. Not that they're actively lazy... their only actively when it comes to pushing plots forward... crushing them, ones that require little staff involvement seems to be 90% of their energy. They don't wanna work... but its like in the same breath, they want you utterly dependent on them. I find the whole mess... rather disturbing, confusing, and wondering why nerds who spend their time, dedicated time to a text base game were we pretend to be other people, are so utterly the bully it's not funny.
It's like their highschool revenge or something
