There are plenty of ways out of the rinth Like what? A climb exit rules out all warriors, merchants and mages, as well as any person who hasn't yet branched climb. Given the rate at which rinthers die, this is a lot of people. The sewers are even worse, since they involve both climbing and a fucking maze that will kill you merclessly if you so much as take a wrong turn. What else is there?

The blockade isn't locked. Sometimes it's not even closed. The other blockade is often left wide open. There is also the sewers and the rooftops. For some mages, there's also "in the air" and "over the edge." If you're pals with some mages, you too can climb almost effortlessly. There's lots of options. Unless you're a heavily-armored or otherwise weighted down warrior who refuses to do business with witches and just wandered into the rinth by mistake and got stuck inside and happen to have no idea how to get back out again. And you're without a stitch of climbing gear or money to buy any. If that's you, then you should've been ganked by the rinthi npcs for your loot anyway so it's a moot point.
The hyperbole in this thread is pretty thick, mostly written by people who don't play, or don't play in Allanak and have no actual knowledge of what's going on. The Rinth-Southside activity is now more difficult, but definitely not impossible. That's kind of how it should be. It shouldn't be common to see rinthis hanging out in the Gaj or Red's hobnobbing with noble and templar aides in public. But that's not even relevant. What happened was the result of IC stuff that players were doing with their PCs, instigated by PCs, driven by PCs, caused by PCs, and requested by PCs. It was implemented by the staff, because PCs can't codedly build the blockade that they asked for and needed staff to get that done.

You're confusing 'shouldn't be realistic' because of lack of money due to living in a much poorer area (the way you wouldn't see me in Tao or the Ivy) with 'shouldn't be realistic' because you literally can't get to it, @ghaati.

The notion that blocking off part of the city to deal with a handful of peopl is fucking ridiculous. and callng it hyperbole to point out the reasons that is ridiculous does nothng to diminish how disproportionat that response by "PCs" setting up blockades is.

Again - the blockade isn't locked. It is passable. It is also not the only way in or out of the rinth for most people who play in the rinth. And Anaiah you're quoting me as saying it shouldn't be realistic. Not sure where you got that from. I usually avoid mentioning realism at all because to me realism doesn't make much sense in a game with elves and gith and mindbenders. You CAN get to the rinth. And I don't know what Tao and the Ivy are so your reference is lost on me.

All you need to do to find the other entrance/exit to the 'rinth is look around for longer than 15 minutes. No special coded skills required. If you want to find a secret entrance that will take longer.
It's not "plausible" to block off an entire slum -- but that's not what is happening. A "checkpoint" so that authorities can keep tabs on those that come in/out sounds plausible to me. This mantra of "the staff just want to ruin my fun" is kinda silly.

There are plenty of ways out of the rinth Like what? I'm pretty comfortable with Ghaati's answer. I do believe that if brand new players started in the rinth and the blockade was locked in their start location that it could be frustrating and tough to navigate. The Rinth is supposed to be tough though, its what makes it different. Though once used to the maze and where everything is, the rinth seems to be pretty easy, for a new player it is a dangerous place.

The reference is that they're both really expensive, high end places to eat/drink/hangout, so as someone who's not rich, it wouldn't make sense for me to be there (because I wouldn't be able to afford it). The argument that people from slums shouldn't be seen in the rest of a city is ridiculous. Have you ever been poor?

Again - the blockade isn't locked. It is passable. I rolled up a 'rinther the other day just to check and both Hathor's and the blockade had like 8+ HG soldiers guarding the exits out. You could walk in, but leaving is verboten. Don't try to tell me it's acceptable to expect people to venture through the fucking sewers.

Not everyone has sneak, and the idea of sneaking past like eight half-giants crammed into a narrow alleyway, with an exit that needs to be opened, is silly enough that I wouldn't actually be miffed if staff cracked down on that. The problem, of course, is the presence of those soldiers and the reason thereof.
