The barrier is the kind of heavy-handed counterproductive silliness that makes Arm immensely unenjoyable for me. ICly justified or not, Arm staff only modifies the game in a way that diminishes RP. That's why it takes ten real life years for the Guild to replace their stupid curtain with an actual door, but a fully manned blockade in the primary artery of the most lawless and corrupt part of Allanak springs up overnight, completely finished and with a contingent of Half-Giant guards.
Even if we accept that the blockade is justified, even if we accept that the IC circumstances couldn't be handled better some other way, even if we accept that this was a necessary change to the game world, it still doesn't make sense that the thing materializes overnight. Why weren't slaves building it so that rinthers (and others, such as the Tuluki spies the blockade is probably meant to keep out) have a chance to sabotage the construction? Such a scenario would actually CREATE roleplay. But then staff might not be able to railroad plot the game, and we can't have that.
Now, likely because of this stupid Tuluki spy war-with-Allanak plot, people like Ghaati suggest that rinthers and mages team up to travel easily between the two spheres. Do wind mages really need more IC leverage? And do pickpockets/burglars need another obstacle in the way of thievery? It's the only reason those two guilds exist at all.
Worst yet is that Ghaati suggests this is to combat the anti-thematic play of rinthers hanging out at the Gaj and Red's. Yeah, teaming up with mages is totally thematic, unlike nobles/wealthy merchants giving Arm recruits generous tips for pummeling the rinthers into a bloody pulp -- or assassinations, if they don't get the message. Nothing says "corruption, murder, betrayal in a harsh, low magic setting" like dirty homeless people hiring a magical travel agent so that they can bypass a toll booth manned by a fleet of robotic Andre the Giant clones.
That mentality just shows the clueless reactionary behavior to the problems within the game. It is a problem that rinthers hang out at the Gaj and Reds. The problem isn't that they're trying, the problem is that people are letting them. It should be the role of all those brawny Militia and house-garbed people to put them on their ass, but they're too busy trying to hit up the noble/templar aide f-me's to do it. And staff will never come down on them because those people are usually the ones that suck up to the staffpets the most. It's how they manage to survive in those positions for so long.

Seems like they just want to make trouble. Troublemakers like this should be channeled into proper places, not shut down and stomped out.

It did, but pretty much shut the whole place down for a bit. As movement was rather restricted.

It's been down for over a month. I also don't remember suggesting that rinthis and mages get together and I don't remember posting anything about the reason being that rinthis and mages were hanging out in the gaj. I don't know what "tedium" is referring to.

The blockade isn't locked. Sometimes it's not even closed. The other blockade is often left wide open. There is also the sewers and the rooftops. For some mages, there's also "in the air" and "over the edge." If you're pals with some mages, you too can climb almost effortlessly. There's lots of options. Unless you're a heavily-armored or otherwise weighted down warrior who refuses to do business with witches and just wandered into the rinth by mistake and got stuck inside and happen to have no idea how to get back out again. And you're without a stitch of climbing gear or money to buy any. If that's you, then you should've been ganked by the rinthi npcs for your loot anyway so it's a moot point. The hyperbole in this thread is pretty thick, mostly written by people who don't play, or don't play in Allanak and have no actual knowledge of what's going on. The Rinth-Southside activity is now more difficult, but definitely not impossible. That's kind of how it should be. It shouldn't be common to see rinthis hanging out in the Gaj or Red's hobnobbing with noble and templar aides in public. But that's not even relevant. What happened was the result of IC stuff that players were doing with their PCs, instigated by PCs, driven by PCs, caused by PCs, and requested by PCs. It was implemented by the staff, because PCs can't codedly build the blockade that they asked for and needed staff to get that done. Saw this when I was reading through the thread, rolled my eyes, and replied. It's a month and a half old at this point but this terrible attitude has been prevalent in Arm for at least the last two years, and is becoming increasingly common from Arm staff and their apologists. It's fairly obvious that you were suggesting that people team up with mages, and were trying to suggest that this was an effective solution to people not responding properly to rinthers in the Gaj and Red's. You might have forgotten that this was your response to the complaints to the blockade, but it's still representative of a self-destructive culture prevalent in Arm.

You might have forgotten that this was your response to the complaints to the blockade, but it's still representative of a self-destructive culture prevalent in Arm. You might have forgotten to read the actual post, as a whole, and chosen to cherry-pick something that would justify your tirade against me. I can cherry pick - check out my fun colors! And for bonus points: my fun colors are pointing out the same relevance that your bolded for emphasis were! To clarify, since you clearly weren't interested in actually paying attention to the content of my post: I wasn't suggesting an effective solution to people not responding properly to rinthers in the Gaj and Red's. That's why I said "THAT'S NOT EVEN RELEVANT" and why I specified "WHAT HAPPENED WAS THE RESULT OF IC STUFF THAT PLAYERS WERE DOING WITH THEIR PCS, INSTIGATED BY PCS, DRIVEN BY PCS, CAUSED BY PCS, AND REQUESTED BY PCS." The whole thing was an IC situation, it was intended to be temporary, it was temporary, the situation was resolved, and the blockade was then removed. The whole thing was a non-issue, a temporary inconvenience for people who normally wouldn't be running around southside anyway. And there were options to get out, which is how a few DID get out, on a fairly regular basis. There were rinthis who got out of the rinth, and went back in. I don't know if they used magicks, I imagine probably not. But that was certainly an option.

i wish you noobs would stop talking about this seeing as you have no fucking clue about anything. there is nothing more irritating than someone who feels compelled to be right about everything in order to justify their wasted time. especially on a forum as ridiculous as this
just shut up already. everyone involved or remotely involved is already over it. the thread is 11 pages long. just stop. you're approaching kronibus territory here
