With all this talk of player based clans, I can't help but to think of the Conclave.
The Conclave were already on their way out by the time I was a new player, and their IC recruiting was nonexistent, pretty much. But I remember conversations with the player of Gerrol, or Old Stone, the founding member, an 8 RL year old dwarf Rukkian.
Think with me about this for a moment, now.
This dude worked for 8 RL years to form the Conclave, eventually managing to have his OWN FORTRESS built.
They were always one of the most mysterious clans to me, and as a newbie, I remember being a Bynner camped outside the walls of that fort, hearing ominous MOO'ing emanate from within.
But the thing is, Nyr just completely retconned them. Not even their fortress remains in the Salt Flats, and they have been closed for close to a decade.
The moral of a story? You can work extremely hard to make a player built clan, and then later on down the line, some asshole who never saw you enter even one emote, can just make it all disappear. Poof.
It's terribly easy to dismiss others' contributions to the game. It's a terrible tragedy when monuments to what people have spent as long as EIGHT YEARS making just... Vanish... Because some guy who never even knew them decided it should.
I hope I'm not the only one who thinks that's fucked up.

This summer, I was working for a tech heir to a really famous company... Let's just say Depeche Mode wouldn't be the same without this family.
Anyway, it was a concert venue, and this Jewish rich kid - younger than me, but the son of a multimillionaire from Conneticut - decides he wants to take about two dozen signs that a group of school teachers had meticulously hand painted the year before... And paint over them with black paint and fluorescent spray paint.
He he not been at the volunteer day the year before when all of those women were sitting around working so hard on them, so it was easy for him to just say fuck it and paint something ugly on them, just because the framework for a sign was already there.
I told him, angrily, "Yeah, it's incredibly easy not to take what other people have contributed into consideration, isn't it?"
I feel the exact same way about the Conclave being retconned or about people who have played this game for a long time being treated like they are a threat or a piece of shit.

In the end, even though he huffed and puffed and argued, the rich Jewish kid eventually decided to leave the signs alone.
Maybe there's a moral in there somewhere.

I agree.
That's sad, that fortress was always a favorite mysterious thing to me a newb salt grebbing. I was so sad to find out, not matter how hard I try I'd never get into it, or find anything interesting other side of the flats.
I didn't know Nyr Recont'd it. Which is just shitty and uncreative. Like that thing could of been used again, in a real honest way.
Like is Arm's staff just some black hole of creativity in which all idea's and inspiration are sucked in and they only see fit to remove shit? Like I've never meet human's who actually had negative creativity. Like in a way that not only are they aren't creative, but they literally suck creativity out of things they touch.
What a fucking concept...

I'm pretty sure it was announced but I just ate, so the thought of going to the GDB to look probably isn't a good idea right now

I don't want too. I liked reading about the Conclave here, I also know why the couldn't continue to exist, but at the same time. History and tradition should mean something... and there is no reason to pass up a chance that some terrible ancient magic pouring out of it.
Missed opportunity, there is no reason for it.
It never had to be world changing or game breaking, but it could of been great plot device, or something for players to enjoy. Something different as oppose to just removing it from a game.
Fucking tragedy

Of all the player created clans to be removed, or are now defunct, I sometimes wonder how the Atrium is still with us.

They closed the clan for iso-magicker, probably legitimate reasons, which totally prevented isolated groups of mages from ever emerging again... right?
I don't see why any group who managed to establish something in game should have their efforts disappears because there's a "changing of the guard." Kinda weird how they were disappeared right as talk of a new clan system emerged, too.
Preemptive motion to keep PCs from gaining such a cool area as their fort, or is that too conspiracy theory?

Jenki, well, the player who made it is probably still around.

Also, Adhira was seeing the dude who played the guy who sponsored the Atrium at the time it came into being, so, being a producer now and having been around for its inception, it probably interests her.
It's a great example of a player made clan, and other clans, regardless of whether or not their players are still around, should be shown the same respect.

It's not a conspiracy theory at all. A principal source of staff inspiration is keeping players from having cool areas as forts. I am not being remotely funny. I honestly believe this, and have seen a few examples of it up close and personal. There are a few reasons as to why this is the case...stemming from jealousy, to a misguided derpy belief that the game will benefit from forcing players into certain clans, so their alts and friend alts have minions/spear-carriers to boss around. A lot of it is simple contempt and laziness. Many staffers have a huge amount of contempt and derision for the playerbase, and mostly just enjoy ripping on them and thinking they're being funny, on imm chat.

Okay, at least one other person from the fringe board of one of the most fringe games ever agrees with me that there's probably a conspiracy going on. So, there's probably a conspiracy going on, guys.
Ladies and gentlemen, we have unearthed the fort conspiracy.
I think this should be referred to henceforth as "FortGate."
Fortgate.
LairGate?

I am not spoiling anything, but there is still a trace of the Conclave in Armageddon that everyone has seen, a whole fucking lot, and is still used probably a lot in game, that wasn't removed... But it's far from a fort.

So, there's probably a conspiracy going on, guys. Ladies and gentlemen, we have unearthed the fort conspiracy. I think this should be referred to henceforth as "FortGate." Fortgate. LairGate? I didn't want to get into the whole re-hashing of the Great Salarri Outpost fuckery, that I detailed elsewhere. But it's definitely beyond mere theory. Even though we accrued like 5x more materials than they said we needed, we never once were allowed to get started on it. Despite being completely poised for years, through multiple changes of clan leadership. They just waited it out until Nadhir died, and as far as I know, it was only brought up sporadically after that, and was forgotten entirely by the time staff changed again. In the interest of full disclosure, as far as I know, the Salarri outpost was initially given a roadmap during Expansion Division 1.0's heyday, while Nyr was loving on the girl leading it. But we got so much material that we could have built our own fucking city, let alone an outpost. We had so much shit, they had to tweak room code. And we had every IC reason and justification. We even had understandings with the Soh and Sun Runners, with approval of where we could locate it. Olgaris and Adhira were shockingly lazy though, so who knows. It's interesting that Adhira never did a goddamn thing for Salarr, until she started RPing an anti-Salarr Miloka raider with Nyr and I think one other staffer. They did not give us any attention at all until we killed those Miloka tribe NPCs in self-defense. And they didn't even know about it until weeks after. It was like a month down the line, and then they got into complete hysterics. I'd even reported about it to the previous Salarr staffer. They were so upset with me, that I could've sworn they were near tears. Like it was the biggest and grossest violation Arm had ever known, and that Salarri would reap devastating consequences for it. Pfft. I'm not even exaggerating. It was spoken of in the most ominous and apocalyptic of tones, as if I'd singlehandedly damned Salarr to annihilation, and only their mercy would let Salarr live. Really? A raggedy little band of tribals noone has ever interacted with in 8 years, will destroy the second greatest merchant House in Armageddon, and only refrain from, owing to Nyr's benevolence. Because while we were disguised as non-Salarri (unrelated reason), we killed their kank-fucking trigger-happy NPC guardians. But I knew after that, the outpost would never happen. And keep in mind, our whole Expansion 2.0's crew basically revolved around the promise of our own outpost, where we could finally get away from the cities and have our own base. We'd dream about it, and talk about it incessantly. Staff is more than just a black hole of creativity. They only get off on negative ramifications to events.
