It's funny how they jumped into anti-Byn mode then jumped back into "mostly normal" Byn mode after an entire set of characters were gone. After those characters were gone, they also opened up warehouses and made player-formed clans more feasible. But, it seemed like they clamped down on one group of players, then opened the gates again - once those players had moved on to other things.

And sirra is on to something when he discusses the meritocracy evident in the Byn.

Yes, sometimes they do insert Sergeants, whether it it warranted or not, in an attempt, I think, to install who they "want" to lead the Byn, to lead the Byn. That line of thinking is flawed when it comes to the Byn, unfortunately. Sujaal started off as a runner, for instance. I know this for sure because I rolled up another runner alongside LoD when he made Sujaal. Heh.

Anyway, it is good to have clans whose leaders are there by and large through merit. Kurac is supposed to be this way as well, and probably to the horror of some staff members, people who excel in the clan are SUPPOSED to be able to attain comparable ranking with family members.

In practice, though, it doesn't seem to work out that way, with "sponsored" characters taking precedence over those who have dug themselves in. The meritocracy aspect of Kurac seemed to happen a lot more back in the days of yore.

It has been written about before on this board, but I can try to encapsulate it again as well. About to have to go to work, though.

Started with an animated mekillot's attack that wiped out a bunch of people, continued on through a scorpion pit of death that killed a bunch of people, then the third phase was having psionicist raiders come down into the pit and also fight in the "boss room."

Down in that pit, Patchy, Sefaj, and one of the best HGs I have ever seen died - may have missed some deaths here - and Harar would have died at the hands of a psionicist assassin (yes) that back stabbed him (merchant/aggressor and medic for the Byn) if he had not called out "say: HELP, it's Harar, or something" and been saved by Armali.

No one could see due to a mixture of psionics and scorpion poison... I can't even remember how many scorpions there were - enough to be spammy when you "looked."

It was Sefaj at the time if I remember correctly, he led a bunch of my characters friends too their death and the player knew he was going too die. Heejo wasn't even a recruit yet at the time. Koman and Armali were around..it was practically a slaughter and only a few people came back but they murdered MOST of the Byn.

Berlian, Kroz, and Mazzel headed by Krrx = the Byn trifecta that hooked me into the game.

In 1999, Kroz hired my dude, who was naked at the time because of the old Nak crimcode, and here, half a lifetime later, I am still writing way more than I probably should about the Byn, heh heh.
