Gems From The GDB

I attribute it less to personal growth and more to the degradation of denial.

I think the GDBers afraid to speak their minds fall into three somewhat-overlapping circles:
1. Afraid of staff punishment
2. Afraid of GDB harassment
3. Afraid the staff will just shut the game down out of spite/despair

As the game collapses more and more, those three fears will continue to diminish.

Calling his own players our for daring to make accounts here, and then locking the thread so he has the final say....in classic desertman style.

i get why he's pissed off.

this site should have zero effect on any Armer's game experience. you don't need to read it, you don't need to participate in it. it has no impact whatsoever. there's no secret groups forming here to attack players or w/e. if you don't like the content, you're free not to read it or take part in the bullshit.

instead of doing that though, players are talking about how much they totes don't read the site or they only looked at it once. we know that's bullshit, and nergal knows that's bullshit. the proof is that on the day the leaks got released more people than ever were logged in on the boards for exactly the reason nergal said -- to download the attachment. and you've got malken who, despite trying to organize an effort to shut down the forums, admits he comes here and uses the info that's present.

then you have internet lawyers citing wikipedia caselaw arguing about how posting someone's first name w/o their permission in such a small community totally isn't ~technically~ doxxing and throwing the name back out there despite him editting it out. or posters coming here to stir up shit. it shoots the narrative in the foot that the Arm community is a helpful and welcoming place when posters go and stir shit up on the other boards because they can't just ignore something that has no bearing on their life or hobby.

meanwhile, Arm is lower than ever on the topmudsites ranking because players would rather bitch about how much they hate another website that they totes don't read than actually help out the MUD they take up internet arms for and vote.

so i get where he's coming from and i respect it. i'd be just as annoyed too if i was in his position.

Two things I dislike about the GDB are:

1 - Posters need to be right, or at least for everyone else to be wrong.
2 - Posters need to be validated, often in a zealous support for the game in an attempt to ingratiate themselves to the staff.


I'm not sure I can blame posters for #2. For any player who hopes to be on staff one day, staff kind of needs to like you to get the nod.

the thread was just a bunch of players boasting about how they didn't look at this site and pretending to be concerned about arm while making the community look like shit. he knows it's bullshit. players clearly do look at this site, and if they were so concerned about arm they could spend time trying to improve it rather than shit up other communities.

i'd be annoyed too if i was him and getting fed that bullshit from players. i'm not making a comment on what's right or if he deserves it or w/e, or how much i buy into the attitude of Arm being the 'bigger person' line considering all the antics staff have pulled, but i get the place he's coming from in regards to being annoyed by those posters.

the end of the post, about players in the thread being hypocrites, was about as close as we'll ever see to a staffer flat out telling the players to shut the fuck up, stop being shitheads, and just play the game.

Last few times I bothered to check the GDB, haven't seen much new. I guess there was an APM at Shaleah's house, I dunno, don't care. Never been to one, don't want to be anywhere near the majority of them.
