This 3 recruit dying scenario was a clusterfuck. The staff decided that it's a clusterfuck unworthy of a rez. You cant ... well ... you 'shouldnt' say that staff is incapable of admitting a mistake, because they have done it with another scenario. They simply made a different decision on this other incident. It's almost like demanding consistency from those running the show is just out of the question. How often in your own life do you ever truly get your way, when you approach "anyone" in "any" topic, of "any" location with an attitude like that IRL? I've gotten a raise at work like this before. :x

It's worth remembering that the main point of contention was that the staff created a situation where players were expected to attack. The players attacked and got slaughtered by NPCs. Then staff shirked all responsibility for the scenario they chose to create. If the players weren't supposed to follow orders from the PC templar and get cut down by the code, then what was it the staff wanted to play out in that scene? When the same PC got killed by another staff mistake. A staffer threw a knife with a 1000 strength stat. They admitted the mistake and processed the resurrection before the player even got around to asking for it. They didnt need a public outcry, or a thread, or even a request. They admitted it on the spot and rectified it. We all have our own opinions, this clusterfuck wasnt clearcut and obvious, no matter how much Purg thinks it is. So their decision was different then what Purg thought was right. Purg kept on pressing the issue, with continuously rising hostility, until it got to the point where it stopped being relevant who's right and who's wrong and became a matter of 'fuck you'. Admittedly, Nessalin and Nyr's behavior on this, made this whole thing even worse and regardless of Purg's words and behavior, Nessalin and Nyr shouldnt have lost professionalism. But ... they did, what else is new. No one argues that they're a pair of fucktards. My main argument there is that he approached the issue as if he is in complete and total right and that any other opinion except his is lunacy and idiotism. How often in your own life do you ever truly get your way, when you approach "anyone" in "any" topic, of "any" location with an attitude like that IRL? Oh, I'm not even debating who threw the first real punch or who went too far. That argument's been beaten down to its strings. If we go any further, particularly in this otherwise positive thread of mine that thoroughly derailed, theoretical physics is gonna be pissed. Anyhow I'm looking at it like this: 1. Staff created a scenario where any sane person would assume a PC templar would call for help and the PCs present would probably obey it. 2. That happened. 3. The PCs got thrown under the bus for not knowing the code would murder them. I've yet to read a single explanation about what the staff expected to happen when they did what they did that doesn't involve PCs dying for teh dramaz. Nobody even passively defending the staff has ventured a guess.

I know you're playing a fake devil's advocate, but you haven't denied where the murdertrain was a-heading before they "jumped the rails". ;D not that i care since i puked a little each time ppurg used the word 'valid', but somewhere in that pile of exchange staff said something like: hey we were totes gonne release the templar, it was just for lolz. so i assume the twisted vision of staff was to just put on a light show, probably have a red-haired pasty-skinned shell of man walk around the corner and sperm all over the PCs, then shout some highlander reference, and leave in a green flash bomb. it's obvious, since there is no staff/player divide.

Old Kank has been making a lot of clear sense on the GDB in the player retention thread, and he's been very deferential and polite, but it seems like even he is starting to lose his cool. This recent post of his is very incisive.

This is hilarious.
Old Kank has been making great posts to the player retention thread on the GDB, including the one above, and BadSkeelz's best retort is to be dismissive of it all, and then ask Old Kank why he isn't on the staff if he has so many great ideas. Old Kank actually replies to say that he applied, but was turned down b/c of a negative account note (that he didn't even know about!). And BadSkeelz's retort? You didn't try HARD ENOUGH to get on staff, so you're just an entitled whiner! That insane response is just the best thing EVAR.
Now on to a small derail: shunting all the good players on to Arm's (giant) staff is a great way to suck those good players out of important IC leadership roles. It's also a great way to turn those players jaded and to burn them out.

BS is really just a mindless sycophant on the GDB. Perhaps he can be reasonable through other means of discussion, but he's such a tool on the GDB that it's worthless. He is approaching Lizzie levels.

here's part of the exchange on that thread:
players: negative account notes are dumb.
staff: just open a dialogue with us about them.
players: but we can't even see them or know they are there.
staff: blargh.
players: but.
staff: blargh. They don't matter anyway.
Old Kank: I was rejected because of a negative account note I didn't know was there.
badskeelz: Dude, you entitled cuntsmack, engage staff about it!
Edited to add: Here's how it will end up:
Lizzie: Shut the fuck up, you little ferritfuckers. There are no negative account notes for coded reasons that neither you nor I know anything about. Complaining about them is like complaining about how this game is in text on top of a mountain with your pants on fire, because back when I was a kid I didn't learn about mean or median or averages. mudstats sucks!

You forgot her obligatory remark about how Armageddon has never been in better condition than it is right now, and improves every day.

Now on to a small derail: shunting all the good players on to Arm's (giant) staff is a great way to suck those good players out of important IC leadership roles. It's also a great way to turn those players jaded and to burn them out. I expect this has had more impact than most people realize. It's never the same after you've been on staff and the veil of mystery has been ripped away. The game is not as fun to play after that and some motivating illusions are lost.
