makes sense to me. if u haven't demonstrated that u have the responsibility or rping capacity to do handle lesser roles, theres no excuse for them to fuck around with that special role by wasting it on someone who hasnt demonstrated the above Try again. Lots of pains in the ass can rp well. It has little to do with responsibility either. It has to be with being socially accepted into a clique.

If a proven player gets skipped over a role because another proven player is a "favorite"-- or if a "favorite" player is given higher bidding even though they're just as proven as any other proven applicant, I see a problem.

Biggest crock of shit Arm has ever spewed is this way of thinking. There was a CEO in the 80s or 90s I can't remember who but he outlined a promotion paradox and how just because somsone is good at one thing doesn't make them good at another. This converts easily over to Arms shitty system of Karma (aka: asskissing). Just because you do a great job with a human character doesn't mean you have the responsibility to play a mage or HG without doing something really stupid with those PCs. This has been highlighted many times.
The biggest proof that Arms system is garbage is the amount of players here that can easily smurf their way into the mid to upper karma levels simply by posing as new players and showing improvement over the course of a year or so.

So yeah give people what they want. If they suck ass don't let them play it anymore. Pretty simple way of doing it in my opinion.

I mean.... I guess, but I could see why staff would be hesitant to thrust a player who's shown little or poor leadership skills in their regular play into a leadership role.
Especially given that there are numerous ways to show leadership skills IG without requiring a sponsored role.

Lots of pains in the ass can rp well. It has little to do with responsibility either. It has to be with being socially accepted into a clique. when did u decide that being a pain in the ass means u cant demonstrate being responsible enough or have the rping capacity to handle lesser, or in this case bigger, roles? talk to x-d or synth if u think im bullshitting, genius theyre both begrudgingly accepted in spite of their admittedly twinkish (prior and/or current) attitudes because they are able to do both of the above in spite of it. (presumedly) u've decided in ur spite that their assessment of responsible playability and/or roleplaying capacity is somehow diametrically opposed to qualities u think should be more heavily weighted w/regards to being afforded sponsored roles. try sharing with us what those qualities are if they aren't the above two

No one's arguing that handing out roles judged on merit is bad, jkarr. GDB Lizzie appeared to be arguing that bias and favoritism is, in fact, a meritocracy, because GDB Lizzie is a fuckwit.

Regarding Karma:
Added 1 karma, making 1 total, for happy 1 year anniversary (almost) - 5/24/07.
Set karma to 2, Been a year, no bad notes, lets see what they do. - 6/30/08.
Added 1 karma, making 3 total, for I'm impressed with his grasp of and performance with a Jihaen/northern templar - 5/21/10.
Set karma to 2, Rebelled from the clan and then suicided his leader PC because he didn't want to wait for storage. - 9/06/11.
Set karma to 1, Docking 1 point for active involvement on jcarter forums. He has agreed to stop posting there. This can be regained in 6 months provided there are no other issues. - 5/30/13.
Related to the last one, I didn't agree to stop posting, I agreed to stop spreading in game information, as I don't really think they have a leg to stand on if I'm just "involved" with the forums. But on the topic of karma, thats 9 years of gameplay. It took 3 years and a "no bad notes" to get to 2 karma, and then another year to get a third. Its now been 9 years and I have a single point of karma.
Karma is meaningless unless you want to play a magicker, who just skills up quickly and is superior in PvP, but Arm is no longer about the PvP. Its a social gathering place where sometimes a really good player plays a really good flawed PC. I don't need to play a mul sorceror to have a good time, especially when "human burglar" can do so much shit anyways.

I imagine posting your account notes won't do much in the way of getting your karma back, but really 1 is all you need.
Kudos on sticking to your principles.

BTW: I never got that karma back, after six months of "being good" and thats why Ive been perusing again. if by being good u meant ur own interpretation (sharing ic info) versus their words (active involvement) then yeah, but uve posted in that time frame. also usually u have to request for the karma back urself, especially when they say ur karma 'can be regained' provided no other issues coming crawling back on ur knees is what they want, tho, for u to beg for it back (cuz im pretty sure they wont remember to add ur karma unless u make a point of reminding and asking them), so either way i dont blame u for keeping what u have and playing how u want while posting here

Well the difference between "being good" and "sharing IC info" is that the conversation I had with Nyr... hold on...
Reivon,
Yes. It's about not posting secrets and information (particularly about current PCs) on the off-site board (so generally just not posting there at all).
So, my interpretation was that they would PREFER I don't post here at all, but their main concern was that I was posting secrets and information about the game. Not that karma matters because its just a level of trust a few people have in a text based game. I just thought I'd share, because the things I've done MIGHT'VE been ban-worthy, but they didn't ban me, and I havn't done ban-worthy stuff since. I won't kow-tow, and I accept that means I won't get to play my super awesome magicker roles.

the cat's already out of the bag. the trio of sites (main, wiki, and forums) have been up for what, nearly 2 years now? if one goes down i can just post up a new link on any of them to the next. they're self-sufficient and manage themselves. the main site itself gets 20-40 visitors per day. the boards have 200+ unique visitors. the sites are in the top 5 results on google for 'armageddon mud'. current and former staff members alike have posted on these boards.
what happens here is nothing new. once upon a time you had to be part of the Kewl Kids Klub on IRC and trade stuff through IMs and private messages. that still happens now, likely through PMs on this site, but information is out there and more accessible to new players who now don't need to spend 2+ years playing a game to get a good understanding of it.
punishing players for posting on sight imo shows the nyr's true colors. it's a pathetic thirst for power and control. he's not asking users to just stop posting ICly or being like hey man what you posted here wasn't cool and hurts the game because [reason]. i have PMs from users with the emails from nyr where he demands they stop posting here immediately. not stop posting IC info, but just completely stop posting entirely (on threat of being banned) and he docks karma to show that ~~~he means business~~~.
i think he started easing up when i started posting about how shameful it is that a grown-ass man spends significant amounts of time trawling through an internet message board to see who might be discussing valuable information about his video game, and suggested that maybe the time would be better spent actually improving things for existing players and adding features to the game.
