punishing players for posting on sight imo shows the nyr's true colors. it's a pathetic thirst for power and control. he's not asking users to just stop posting ICly or being like hey man what you posted here wasn't cool and hurts the game because [reason]. i have PMs from users with the emails from nyr where he demands they stop posting here immediately. not stop posting IC info, but just completely stop posting entirely (on threat of being banned) and he docks karma to show that ~~~he means business~~~. well to be fair docking karma and punishing/banning players for being involved at all (whether receiving or sharing) ic information is not at all a new tradition; nyr is only continuing it. the only difference is that hes done a better job of rounding up the perps using multiple channels, and along with ppl hating his snideness they somehow expect him to be less hardnose about the rules because... ...well fuck if i know why anyone would suddenly expect the rules to change because 'new timez' or some shit lol, just looks like another experiment in self-induced misery |

Biggest crock of shit Arm has ever spewed is this way of thinking. There was a CEO in the 80s or 90s I can't remember who but he outlined a promotion paradox and how just because somsone is good at one thing doesn't make them good at another. This converts easily over to Arms shitty system of Karma (aka: asskissing). Just because you do a great job with a human character doesn't mean you have the responsibility to play a mage or HG without doing something really stupid with those PCs. This has been highlighted many times. The biggest proof that Arms system is garbage is the amount of players here that can easily smurf their way into the mid to upper karma levels simply by posing as new players and showing improvement over the course of a year or so.I'm tempted to try this now. The original plan was to only ever play female characters, with a clearly feminine username, and just compliment the male staff a shit ton. This actually seems easier and less misogynistic. |

Frankly, Bestatte was before my time. I know nothing about her really, I just have a bunch of loosely associated memory of the contents of about 1/10 of the players' account notes from looking over them during role call applications, etc. I agree with Lizzie about a few things from time to time, not a lot as a whole, and our pcs have never gotten along, but Bestatte was, as I said, before my time.  |

From what I remember she was around a 4 or 5 karma player that was a decent roleplayer but would constantly get on Sanvean's nerves for not shutting the fuck up about things staff are NEVER going to fix, e.g. brew.
She was 100% right on that and I agree with her, but she wasn't gonna win that battle and she has to have known that.

Yeah, she like X-D had 2 karma when I left staff. Most people who have karma have about 2, outside ones who started acquiring karma pre-2010, when it was often given in clumps of 2-3 karma at a time.

I was never given karma in clumps that I know of, and do not know of a single player who ever received 2-3 at a time. I began earning karma around 2000 or 2001. It took me nearly a DECADE to acquire 6. The last karma I received was from Shalooonsh for Bones back in 2006 I think, and I was banned in '09. I don't have access to my pnotes right now, but they'd say something like this: 1 point from Sanvean for a year or two of play (somewhat standard I think, or at least it used to be). 2 karma for play with Eloran. 1 karma deduction by nessalin for me being a twink. 2 karma again for...I dunno. 3 karma again for...I dunno. 4 karma for a Jihaen I had. 5 for...shit, I don't even know. I originally special apped an elkrosi but later somehow earned it after it was taken away. I then received 6 karma after enduring a 1+ hour torture scene at the hands of Gin and Quick. Also, let's not let facts get in the way: X-D is a massive twink and USED to have more than 2 karma before he got caught spreading the room reach around with someone else who I will not name. They both paid the price for their shenanigans. |

I'm not saying that everyone before that time got massive boosts to karma. I -am- saying that certain people like 7DV, StrangeShadow, and a few others, got theirs between 2000-2010, and got it at 2 or 3 for their first award, 5 or 6, then 8. Since that time, very few people other than staff have had above 6 karma. Some former staff get to keep their 8 karma, some do not. And yes, they outright said XD was never going to have more than 2 karma again.
