So SoI is back. Or about to be back. Character creation is open: www.middle-earth.us/You can find it...somewhere in there. I'm going to be honest. I don't know much about what the setting is going to be, other than that the orcs are apparently going to live in a cave and there is a location known as "Laketown." The site has a rather obnoxious set up, and I could care less about trying to find information. Having said that, here is another option to get away from Arm, while you all wait for Black Sands to come back up. I understand there have been major code overhauls since the last iteration, and now things like height/weight and intelligence and the like decide what your stats and skills will be at the start. |

I really liked Atonement's crafting system and thought it was an awesome step in the right direction. I played it a little bit years ago, but just don't have the time overall for it. Thematically, I'm turned off by the 'one city' kind of setting and prefer an open world with at least two of them and encouraging travel/movement between them.
SoI, good luck to them. I personally just don't like Tolkien stuff. Nothing against it, it's just something I could never get into.

SoI has at least two spheres. The orcs live in the forest in this giant cave and the humans live in the town. Games using the SoI/Atonement codebase just feel so much more alive and exciting to me. Armageddon just feels old.

Not as OP as elementalists in Arm and a lot more staff interaction. One of my favorite things about SoI 2.0 is that height, weight and intelligence matters. If you want to play a big dumb brute with superhuman strength, you can. |

If char creation is open I can't find it. Disabled within the mud itself.

The only reason I knew how to find it was a friend of mine IM'd me an...email from staff?...a forum post from staff? with the link.
Dunno how to get to it again, now.

Character generation is in testing, it's not "open". It's possible to submit an app and have it accepted. They plan on launching probably somewhere in the next week or two. They don't have the connect info in an obvious spot because... well, there's no reason you would need it yet?

I was looking at the site this morning...ugh.
Not sure what's in the game and what's not skill wise, I'd hate to roll a character, get in game only to find out I can't do shit. I guess a straight up warrior or a ranger is a safe bet though.

I for one will be playing once they are out of alpha. I look forward to it and I hope that many of the SoI refugees who have been bidding their time on ARM or ParallelRPI return to their homeland to give it another chance to get them hooked.
The thing I respect the most is Icarus' excerpt from a design doc.
