I just want to note for comedic purposes that this post comes just 4 posts after a recent screenshot of Shalooonsh basically suggesting that the playerbase are all rowdy hoes.
People are saying here they quit the game over Shalooonsh. Are you implying they did it because he's acting silly in a chatroom? Pffffth.
Nope, you suggested that there is no evidence of Shalooonsh's bad behavior in the midst of people actually gathering evidence and posting it publicly, and I implied that was humorous. I wouldn't even fault people for quitting over Shalooonsh's "silliness" tbh. His entire idea of humor is to punch down. His casual disrespect for the playerbase leaks through practically everything he says. |

I'm going to switch gears and actually DEFEND Shalooonsh for a brief moment. Everyone here knows my experience with the dude, so my defense of him is less likely to be taken for some shill. The dude runs some FUN plots. He's really got a great imagination and pushes Arm in some ways that everyone else fears to tread. Body horror? Check. Lovecraftian horrors from beyond? Check. Shalooonsh is YOUR GUY for that fun shit. He's open and clear in his communication. Granted, a lot of his communication lately has been very abrasive and rude, but there's no mushiness there. I had issues with him in requests where he'd encourage my craziness before then animating a clan elder to stomp me flat, but his verbal back and forth is usually crystal clear. He works hard. Not just on approvals but also in building groups and stuff. If it weren't for his personality flip-flopping and abrasive abuse, I'd be thrilled to be in any group he was running. Bottom line ... he is a GOOD STORYTELLER. But they're letting him do too much which ... frankly ... isn't in his wheelhouse. And his admins need to get better control of his behavior. Focus his efforts on what he really does best, and get him to stop all this craziness and abuse. He's a storyteller. The lowest possible staff position that I'm aware of. He has gotten too big for his britches and thinks he can do whatever he wants in this game, and that's the real problem. He needs to be reined in. I'm not typically a huge fan of what Malifaxis/Shalooonsh added to the game, either as a player or as a staff member. I think he leans heavily towards quantity rather than quality. However, he does get some people involved, which is pretty much all you need to do in a roleplaying game. If I had to say one good thing about him, it's that he knows what many people want in-game and tries to produce as much of it as possible. Unfortunately, he demonstrates a constant disrespect for the playerbase that is evident in his words. He would be much better for the game if he was in the background, facilitating player plots, instead of comparing moderation action to backhanding prostitutes. |

Total agreement there. He's the worst possible choice for a moderator and public face for the Arm, at this point in time. Doesn't mean he needs to be voted off the island, but yeah ... rein his ass in a little bit. Put some other guys on point for handling Discord (if you feel you MUST have Discord at all) and tell him he needs to take a backseat.
I don't really know him on a personal level. Maybe he's a decent guy going through a rough patch in his real life. Maybe this is just what being given a little taste of power turned him into. They may be afraid if they force-background him that he'll quit and they'll be down one powerhouse storyteller. I don't know that anything is happening at all behind the scenes. But it looked like that half-ass apology in Discord that someone posted means there was at least a "hey, you shouldn't have said that, dude" going on at staff level. So perhaps the problem is being recognized.

People like Nyr and Nergal were fine players before they became... well, you know. It could be that "power corrupts", it could be stress from staffing, it could be that being able to see everything that happens in-game strips away the naivete that many players have. In any case, your post is a good reminder that criticism can have some compassion and understanding to it, and I'll personally be better about that. |

If you subscribe to the idea that the GDB, Discord channel, and the game are all parts of a broader community, and you play games to socialize and make friends, then it's hard to leave one part of the community and not the others. It's not impossible, it's obviously doable, but missing out on parts of what one community is doing doesn't make much sense when there are better communities available. It really depends on what you play for.

I'll take this guy over here, this guy, that guy, oh, and this chick. Instead of having to get the whole boxed set including some of the real crazies. I talk on the Shadowboard because: 1. I don't like having my content censored and I don't believe that game mechanics should be obscured. 2. Ironically, the Shadowboard community has LESS toxic malcontents than the GDB. EDIT: Though I wish we could get back to some guides. I can't remember who did that miscreant guide (I'd have to go look it up) but that shit was GOOD. That was a super high-quality guide that ought to be a fucking HELPFILE. It didn't show you how to lame PK or uber-twink or anything like that ... but it helped you understand the mechanics of a class and all that goes with it and how to realize it best for survival and fun. I want some more of those, please. Stalker next? Enforcer? C'mon, man. |

Shalooonsh talking about he has a "right to inject humor." No, you dumbass. You're speaking through a staff mouthpiece of authority, and you are expected to be concise and formal while doing so. Whenever anyone ever talked back to him like he goes about casually insulting people, it's an immediate problem that gets clamped down. Why does he get away with saying dumb shit with no repercussion? Why can't he hop onto his player alt and say all the dumb shit he wants? Nothing has ever stopped him from doing it before.

So you're no longer playing, Abuzer? Do you want to talk at length about what shalooonsh did to you? People mention "anecdotes" here, but I dont really see them. I know he acted like an ass with Shakes. Shakes definitely displays proof of what he speaks of. But for the most part with others, it's just vague statements without substance behind them. You shouldnt care though, Abuzer. Can you talk about where Loonsh touched you? He was supposedly the staff for Eastside. At a time I was shaking down southside 4-5k from every noble. No PK, only harassment and contributing to the game's theme best I can. In 2-3 months, he ignored my character completely, I asked numerous times for animations, 0 given. Then, he murdered my character or supported the player who did it in a ridiculous way. (supporting in a sense of --> In eastside basement, killing an eastsider among many virtual elves and getting away with 0 consequences) |

No sandals was long ago, killed by Nergal after killing a westsider at hathors. I had the stupidty of sending an instant PK report and forgot to take out the scripts I had (which had an Autobash --> when it saw "% stands up" bashing instantly)
Nergal was furious he came and chopped sandals to pieces. I couldn't complain much

Because I realised that the staff have gone from being relatively fair to killing PC's without even an IC justification. I feel like if I played, I'd not always be ignored (which is perfectly fine) but also treated like shit and killed by Staff whenever I try to interact with 3-4 players outside staff's plotlines |

From your description, at least how I understood it, you got offed by a PC in an elven basement and no NPC came to your defence. That's actually a pretty common occurrence. It used to happen every few years, or maybe even more often. And each time when people inquired, Jaxa Pah responded simply that they're not going to protect non Jaxa Pah. They never promise to do that, they never give any indication. There is no "Elven Brotherhood". No such thing.
So. How did the leap from a PC kill to Shalooonsh killing you happen? I'm assuming there was a conversation? Was it via request tool? Do you have a copy of it?

From an IC perspective why would they not take the coins. My elf was at worst a massive profit to them. If a 5 min of animation wont be given to a character taking part in interactions at every noble house at that level, then wipe your name off the staffer for jaxa list. Also when my characters are involved in these type of killings, suddenly a staff hero pops up and insta kills my pcs. Double standard in the extreme. |
