So...
I'm thinking about actually giving Arm a shot.
I have had some pcs in the past, but frankly, never went beyond spending starter coin and then going away. It was like, a small filler for those unique times when SoI and HL were both unavailable. So like, 4 pcs with less than an hour played over 15'ish years. My last time I logged on, was told my pc was something like a couple 100 years old and should be dust and was promptly stored. ..made sense.
So anyways, the -reason- why I'm thinking about trying Arm, is I typically enjoy being a sycophant lackey, or a taking a loss and running with it...basically, being a bit of a loser with my pcs.
Haven't experienced that in a while on HL, and won't touch SoI with Shake's (or, insert some other shadow board personality I feel some affinity with) fingertips.
For some reason, after lurking here a couple years, I think that mentality could do well on Arm...am I off point?
Main hurdle has always been - the game just doesn't look right to me.
Secondary hurdle was - my "polar opposites" in the staffing world have typically been former/current/who knows Arm staffers.
So anyways, what you think?
Am I just asking to get shat on? Should I do a "RPI player's impression of Arm" type deal?
edited to add: that said, if someone wants a lackey newb tie in, let me know.

I think you're asking to get shat on if you go in alone. If you have a friend to play with, then you might be able to get blood from the stone that is Arm.

I'm a former SoI player. SoI staff were more corrupt than Arm staff were/are. Staff avatars and staff pets in SoI were invulnerable from having custom loaded armor that made them unkillable. I don't know how SoI is now since I haven't played it in years. Staff cheating in Arm either occurs very little or is very well hidden and not in your face like SoI was.
Your first year of playing Arm it will be like staff don't even exist. They won't know you or care about you and that's fantastic. The problem becomes once you've been playing awhile you start stacking up attention from staff, but, by then you'll already be invested in the game and it'll just be sour. Arm staff still aren't as bad as SoI staff were.

Don't get into roles that requires staff support and you will do fine.
If you want to be loved, jump into the current / existing plots and do not try to create your own thing. That includes you shouldn't try to change the way plots flow.

It's a sad way to look at something that's supposed to be fun. "You'll be fine as long as you don't catch anyone's notice" sounds more like advice you'd give to someone going to prison.

Take anything said by these rascals with a big heaping grain of salt as most of these fuck sticks, by their own admission, don't even play the game anymore and some want to actively prevent people from playing the game ( mehtastic). Go try it for yourself, dive deep into whatever character you make and if you die try something else. I believe Arm is best enjoyed by logging in and ignoring all OOC constructs if possible. |

I thought I got tagged for something useful, turns out it was just a boring message offering prison advice instead. I just don't understand why you would try to stop people from playing a game you enjoyed, despite whatever vitriol you have toward staff. I've always told people to go play it since it was fun for me despite my wars with staff. Two different outlooks on life I guess? |

That was literally my first post in this thread, and I would have been satisfied if it was my only one here. It's literally suggesting a way to play Arm in a way that might be fun (playing with friends as opposed to going in alone). You and people like you repeatedly suggest that, in order to play Arm successfully, you have to disregard interaction with players and staff on an out-of-game level, which is an absurdly antisocial way to play what is supposed to be a social game. My only argument against playing Armageddon is that its staff and its prominent, popular players casually disregard everyone else, and that you suffer indignities by playing Armageddon. I could give two shits who plays the game and who doesn't, but I would absolutely point people who don't play Armageddon away from Armageddon. You, on the other hand, seem preoccupied with the fact that I dare to criticize Armageddon while not playing it. Yeah, I don't play it because it's a waste of time and energy. Just two different outlooks on life, I guess! |

I personally think the toxic atmosphere of this thread and others recently seems very similar to whats said on the gdb. I always came here for transparency, skills stuff, lore, the cool shit. Now all I hear is ridicule and crude remarks.
Try the game. Some hot topic things with Imms or other players come from years of indeterminate disagreements and miscommunications. Its your own journey and check for yourself. I've enjoyed the game for more than a decade, am not a staff favorite, and have taken breaks due to certain staff.
Good luck playing and hope to see you in game having fun and trying cool shit.
